Gabriel Yared's Troy on CD?

I have just received an email from someone operating as "Cinemusica" whom I do not remember how I came to received his score updates (possibly from a Ebay query to him) and who offers promo CD's, complete and rejected score as well. One of the latest CD's among other things is Yared's rejected score for Troy. It quotes 18 tracks and is 77 minutes long.

Does any else know of him and used his service?

Any word on this promo? How many were made. Is anyone selling it or trading it. I know this is not John Williams but I think it is one of the more important scores of the year and it was rejected. If only Williams had it in him to create music like this.

okay that's a silly thing to say on a John Williams board! Of course Williams has it in him. But then again, I'm glad he and Yared have different styles.

Troy is the best thing I've heard this year with respect to epic scores, but I love Williams' The Terminal for its jazz harmonies. That theme on track "Jazz Autographs" some of the best music Williams has ever composed in my book and is easily one of his finest themes to date.

Being a fan of his wonderful scores for My Dog Skip and Tuck Everlasting, I've been wanting to hear what Ross did for Young Black Stallion. Not that badly, though.

Yes, I realize 85% of this is unavaliable. This is my personal want list (Mostly), not some fanboys "rare" list whre they ask for complete scores of films that jsut came out and MV stuff.

Man, if I posted my personal want list.. it would go on and on for several pages.

Well, if there are any other reasonable items that you are after.... then maybe I might be able to offer a trade.

But I cannot give the Holy Grail, if I don't have it.

Oh, also the Theodore Shapiro promo for Startsky & Hutch. I have not heard the scoe or seen the film, but after readind the interview at soundtrack.net and hearing of 70s it was and stuff and my love for 70s music, I can't resist.

Plus, on the same note, there are seaon 1 and 2 promos for the old TV series. I would be interested in hearing those.

I will PM you later today Johnny, I am still trascribing the long, long interview I did with Gabriel Yared.

He's a very gracious interviewee isn't he? And his music is phenomenal, not just for Troy. He deserves more recognition, and more high profile projects. Film score fans should be able to hear the full range of his abilities.

Yes, he was so nice and so honest. I think he said "sh!t" about 4 times and another combination I won't repeat here.

And I feel really bad for what he is going through right now.

I've been saying in my infrequent posts in here that Yared has been the main competition for Williams for a decade now. Not Goldsmith, not Horner, not Zimmer - Gabriel Yared!

Helped by the absence of Williams, of course, but (counting Troy as if it had been used in the final film), I'd say the three best scores of the last 18 months have all belonged to Yared. Troy, the stunning Cold Mountain, and best of the lot, Sylvia. The latter was a stunning score to a poor film, which would have been absolutely dreadful without Yared's contribution. And he's added as much to Minghella's work (Mr Ripley less so than the two that bookend it) as Williams does for Spielberg. Troy was a piece of garbage too, which I'm convinced would have felt at least average if it wasn't for the moment of studio madness which saw his contributions removed - and probably at the cost of over $1 million!!! Shame on them!

I look forward to some sort of release - be it CD or alternate DVD track - before shelving out for the bootleg doing the rounds.

Yared said WB is not going to release it. So they hold the rights, so they will not do isolated DVD either. So sad.

You won't have to shell out, jsut look for someone willing to trade you a copy, like say, maybe me. No gaurantees though.

The titles are not wrong. You are going by what you saw on Yared's site and in actuality, some cues were split on on the mp3 smaples. On the promo everything is back the way it should be and unedited and cues renamed.

I just heard this score in full. It exceeded my wildest expectations. This is an absolute masterpiece and (perhaps with exception of PoA (or maybe not)) the best score of the year. I desperately hope Warner will change their minds at some point and release it... and put it back in the movie, at least as an alternate... I want to hear THIS in themovie!!!!

Tharpdevenport, one question: They order on which the tracks where when I got the score is not the same as the one on your site. I guess yours is more chronological, but there are some tracks that segue into each other (like "Hector! Hector!" into "Hector and Achilles fight"), and one of those pairs gets split up when ordering them in the order as on your site ("Achilles and Briseis" and "Battle of the Arrows"). So now there's a continuing note at the end of A.&B. which gets cut of as the following track isn't the one in which it is continued (B.o.t.A.). Did you notice this too, or is my version different? The track times match, apart from 2 or 3 tracks with a few seconds more listed in the player.

Could you post the art here? I'm curious what it looks like 8O. I'm currently working on my own cover art as I didn't have any. I'll post it here when I'm finished.

I don't know how to properly size down art, I can take wild guesses with stretch/escew in bitmap, but other than that the art is too large for me to host and link to.

So if someone here wants it, e-mail me.

By the way, you forgot an Orchastrator. Jeff Atmajiam (I think that is how you spell it)

He is a silent figure who does a lot of Orchastrations and ghostwriting.

He did Troy rejected, so far all of J.N.H.'s Shyamalan efforts and more.
