Hello Gorgeous, she's got legs like butta, like butta. Babs made the list 4 times.

No Johnny songs sadly.

I don't have many problems with the list except that eminem is on the list and he is one nasty piece of work.

2 Bond songs, the two I would have chosen too, Goldfinger and Nobody Does it Better, both great great songs, unless Aretha Franklin happens to be singing the latter in which case is was a ruined piece of crap.

I didnt' care how they were ranked. I only cared if they showed up on the list.

The only song I wish had been included was "Take My Breath Away" from "Top Gun." The most sensual love song written. Those five notes are hypnotic.

Anyway, I wish they had a stipulation that the songs had to be written for the films (except if it's an adaptation of an existing musical). Stuff like "Born to Be Wild" and Rock Around the Clock" and others didn't deserve to be on the list.

Jeff -- wishing there were a compilation CD made of the songs

"Rock Around the Clock" and others didn't deserve to be on the list.

Wasn't "Rock Around the Clock" written for The Blackboard Jungle?

"Rock Around the Clock" was originally put out on the B-side of a Bill Haley and the Comets 45. The producers of The Blackboard Jungle heard it and thought it would be perfect for the opening credits of the film.

I can't stand movie songs.

me neither, except in some musicals (such as West Side Story)

Most of them were created with commercial purposes

I was in Best Buy today and they had a display promoting CDs containing songs from the AFI list, marked $9.99 (even though most of the stickers said otherwise). So I picked up Fiddler on the Roof. When I checked out, it came up $14.99, so I told them about the display, and they had to check and so on. But I finally got it for 10 bucks. I'm not sure if I was really supposed to or not, but hey, I'm happy!

FOTR (hehe, I mean Fiddler on the Roof) isn't even on the list, is it? Oh well! :P

I wonder when they will have the top 100 movie scores of all time.

And if they do, will ESB really be #1? I'm thinking Gone w/ the Wind or some other score like that will take the top nod.

btw,

in the original list of 400 nominee's

there were 5 songs with connections to John Williams

Anything Goes, IJTOD

Can You Read My Mind, Superman

The Morning After, The Poseidon Adventure

We May Never Love Life This Again, The Towering Inferno

Sunrise Sunset, Fiddler on the Roof,

I know the connections to John may be thin, but those are the JW films that

were nominated

Further more, I think it's safe to say that every movie that ends with a song (during the end credits) is a bad movie. Titanic come to mind...

Ridiculous statement, i'd love to see you back up your claim with examples.

Titanic come to mind ... Uh... Against all Odds ... The Body Guard ... etc.

Your turn to back up the word "ridiculous", for using it so easily.

I have yet to see any evidence that Titanic is a bad film.

Several GREAT Bond films have end title songs.

The Big Lebowski is a great film.

As is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

The LOTR films, anyone?

Your statement is ridiculous, but atleast you are consistant.

You think is great, that's all the evidence I need.

Several GREAT Bond films have end title songs.

It's part of the kitsch.

The Big Lebowski is a great film.

What song?

As is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Mediocre film at best.

The LOTR films, anyone?

Stupid songs to suit and serve big commercial emptiness. Don't tell me, was it Enya? Did you get tears in your eyes, Stefancos? Here a tip that is most definitely gonna break your heart: that song in Final Fantasy's ending, hahahaha.

And besides, I'm really talking about the Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Phil Collins, etc endings. Films that thought they needed a pop hit. It was a bad trend. Luckily I don't care about those movies.

I no specific order, some good and great movies with end credit songs (some good, some bad) which haven't been mentioned:

Blues Brothers

Fight Club

Se7en

Hamlet (Branagh)

Much Ado About Nothing (Branagh)

The Englishman who went up a Hill but came down a Mountain

Any Pixar film

The Lion King

Mulan

Pulp Fiction

Marian - who probably could name many more.

Beauty and the Beast ends with a song, outstanding film better than any of the Disney and or Pixar films to come out since

Victor/Victoria ends with a song, another outstanding film

Sixteen Candles and Breakfast Club end with songs, both terrific films

Titanic ends with a song, the #14 song on AFI's list.

Spy Who Loved Me ends in a song, great song, terrific film.

Home Alone ends in a song, great holiday film.

There are so many terrific films that end in song, that are good or great movies.

Nemo has a Robbie Williams cover of 'Somewhere Under the Sea'. I don't mind Randy's Pixar songs, I quite like a couple of them actually. I can't stand his songs for Parenthood, The Paper, Maverick or so many others that didn't need a song at all.

There, you said it! "... that didn't need a song at all". I really feel embarrassed if I'm leaving the theatre with that awful Celine Dion singing in the background. Luckily this trend has died out. I have no problem with a song if the movie calls for it (like a 50s record after American Graffiti). Also, I have no problem with a song if it is done in a creative way.

That said, I don't think I have one movie in my DVD collection that ends with a song.

Sing along with me:

The Nostromo was sailing amongst the staaaaars

They were sailing far beyond the borders of Maaaaars

Her crew and the captain all making a swell team

They say that in space no one can hear you scream

Everybody now!

repeat

Off the top of my head, I think I have only four-

Wag The Dog- which ends with a new Marc Knopfler song, doesn't affect the great movie one way or another (Knopler's voice kinda blends in with his music, so it doesn't even sound like a song)

Black Hawk Down- which end with a great rendition of Minstrel Boy, very befitting of the movie. That's a good end song.

Maverick- where the song blends nicely with the last couple of lines of the movie.

and Easy Rider- of course, the first film to really use only popular songs, and the song they end it with fits superbly.

And now that I think of it, there are at least 3-4 Randy Newman songs I like a lot. Mostly the quiet, gentle, sweet ones.
