Sandor 797
The giants: John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Ennio Morricone, John Barry, James Horner (minor giant), etc. Does anyone know for how many films these composers have written an original score? I could count listings at some sites, but that will take me ages! Perhaps someone has a list ready to submit as a reply. I think Morricone is the winner when it comes to quantity. I read somewhere that he wrote over 600(!) original scores.

Sandor 797
Remember: quality before quantity.I know that, as hinted by my remark concerning Morricone. I'm just interested in the quantity-output of these composers. Definately not to label them as "better" or "worse" than the other. In fact; I think a composer can write just one score during his career that is more awe-inspiring and impressive than 100 scores by another composer. Luke Skywalker 1,795
Didnt morricone made music libraries for the cheap westerns?Sure many people count the movies where that was used sepparately...But anyways i still think he is the winner in this matter. Morn 8
It's good to have both quality and quantity, aka, Morricone.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
While I definatly consider Morricone a outstanding film composer with a style of his own I must confess that I really cannot get into many of his scores.I respect his work, but often I cannot enjoy it (and no i aint talking about the Leone westerns and The Untouchables)
Morn 8
Really? He's an excellent very original composer who is very skilled at generating powerful emotions. He's also clever and subtle in how he scores films, always telling you more about what is happening.

Jeshopk 8
After listening to "A fistful of soundtracks" Morricone Compilation... I think he has actually dropped a few notches in my mind. When he's bad, he's BAAAD!

Jeshopk 8
Choose anything with the General Midi Tom drums and the godawful phony reverb. Some of his stuff sounds like porn compositions done in a 1980's basement.Of course Jerry was known to produce some crap as well. But Morricone seems about 50% crap, 50% genius.Goldsmith is more like 15% crap, 85% genius.Of course I am a little harder on them because they were well into their carreers when producing this stuff. BLUMENKOHL 1,068
But see, even when Jerry wrote crap on those rare occasions...it was fresh and creative crap. Crap you hadn't heard before, and that at least made it interesting to listen to...for the mere fun of discovery. Overall I think he has the best record in terms of quality in relation to quantity. For all that he scored, a good majority of was above average, and each effort had at least had one or two outstanding pieces.
