I thought Bobby's line "I know how to open this. We need to go outside", and then just smashing the object on the floor was better!

Yeah, I enjoyed that. Not LOL moment, but appropriately weird and "anti-climactic".

good episode. More "standard" than 8 obviously. But things seem to be moving somewhere. I wonder if we'll see Roth and Jason Leigh again or if these were just cameo's.

The Andy/Lucy scene was first rate. And it actually works better for me without any music telling me how to feel. made it touching rather than comical.

Since Mr. C indicates that they should take care of the warden and then head to Vegas for two hits (Ike the Spike and Dougie?  Dougie and Janey-E?), my guess is that we'll see them again.

Yes, episodes 1-7 and then 9 really do a good job of framing epi 8.

At best I thought it was cute, but still rather awkward and stilted - due to the lack of Badalamenti. I think my missus was a fan, though.

Its also the first time I noticed individual storylines progressing in a way that doesn't seem utterly random. Matthew Lillards description of The Zone watched what Bobby, Hawk and Truman found out. So there was actually a sense of momentum.

Who knows. Apparently Dougie is very important to the overall story, and they seem to finally starting to get into that.

One gotta give kudo's to Maclachlan though. Managing to evoke pathos even when he's just staring into a wall.

Nearly the polar opposite of episode 8 - non-abstract, narrative, and even with plots beginning to converge. Almost conventional, at least by comparison. And still very good.

One more funny moment: Lucy eating her sandwich and leaning over all the way to drink from her straw.

Lots of talking in this episode, but still good stuff. Good bunch of laughs in there too.

Just felt a bit more exposition-heavy than I like. A lot of the information being spewed out was stuff we already knew, or worked out too.

But it was all framed well and I enjoyed it. Guess its good to have an episode like this after everything that came before it.

The scene with Dougie staring at the flag might be my favourite part.

Episode 7 has a lot of that too. It might be the shows biggest weakness so far.

There was a really ham-fisted moment of CHARACTERS EXPLAINING THE PLOT dialogue between Albert and Gordon about the fate of Major Briggs in morgue. It stood out like a sore thumb.

That was rather nice. Cooper was after all most definitely a patriot.

Felt like a moment where the audience had a genuine connection with the old Dale Cooper.

Exactly the scene I had in mind as well. In fact, Gordon's dialogue in this new season, is generally written in a ham-fisted "As you know... -insert redundant pre-existing information here-" way.

It's because of the strikingly different shifts of tone from one episode to another. There's some natural opposition there.

From eps 8 to 9 sure. But otherwise its been fairly consistent.

When are you lining Fire Walk With Me up then?

Not sure. The problem is that what ive seen of it over the years looks dreadful. I know I probably should watch it. But I don't really feel like it.

Anyone reckon the tone of this synth patch is somewhat close to the one Angelo uses in "that scene?"  Ignore the half assed transcription/performance, just trying to nail the right sound for now.

I was watching Blue Velvet again last night, and I couldn't believe it when I spotted a link between the packet of crisps visual gag seen in the last episode of Twin Peaks! Turns out a very young Kyle Maclachlan really loves to munch on crisps in the car in that old movie, which is beyond a doubt a spiritual prequel to Twin Peaks.

Very close, yes. The sweet reverb was seemingly identical.

You don't think it was another step to foil real Cooper?  Guess it could be both, but it does make sense that he is looking for the Experiment.  That's what his playing card seemed to represent.  That symbol showed up on Briggs' note as well, over one of the "peaks," with a red/gold orb over the other.  Laura?  Or something else?

I hate almost every song featured in the Roadhouse thus far. This week's was good though in as far as it fit my idea of the Twin Peaks aesthetic far more than any of the others have. None are Julee Cruise levels of essential goodness though.

Latest epi was another disjointeded affair with a couple of great parts in amidst the plodding subplots I continue to care little about (Doc Jackoby for eg).

A lot of the casino gangster material reminds me of One Eyed Jacks, and so feels strangely Twin Peaksy. Again, thank Badalamenti for some of that.

I must mention that the increasingly frequent and intense brutality some of the male characters exhibit towards the women in this under Lynch's direction is becoming a tad problematic for me. As his themes go, it's definitely the more repugnant one of the lot, and often feels overly aggressive and gratuitous. At this stage I am dubious of it.

The Richard Horne/grandma sequence was intense and spellbinding -- almost on par with Michael Haneke's FUNNY GAMES. Didn't we speculate earlier that he might be the son of Audrey and Bobby Briggs?

If so, did Evil Coop rape her while she was in a coma?

I hope we get to find out who the father is at some point.

Bobby Briggs? Nah. Evil Coop I say!

Speaking of Bobby, will this series ever explain how on earth he managed to become a cop? After what he did in FWWM, it's pretty astonishing.
