A handful of good individual scenes isn't enough to make a movie "salvageable" for me.

See, I'm a simple man. To me, if the climax of a movie works, then no matter how winding and bumpy the ride to that climax might have been, ultimately the climax is what matters. Not only because that's ultimately what you're left with, but because if the climax worked, evidentally amid the bumps and longueurs enough of the movie worked in the lead-up to that climax.

And you know what? This works:

And this works:

And this works:

Like I said, simple man.

Oh, and it's not a lookalike like Rings of Power. So it's an easy pick for this one. That is all.

RoP is too long for its own good. Even if a climax was satisfying, it's a boring slog.

Five armies is too short in all the wrong places.

There are times where I watch and feel "Oh, it's over?" but the extended edition gives me that feeling less than the theatrical did in its day, so I'm good with it being the length it is.

Rings of Power is indeed very slow. I was never expecting a Tolkien project to be even slower than An Unexpected Journey had been, but Rings of Power did it. Takes over six hours for a plot of any kind to coalesce. And, again, it's just such a lookalike that it undermines the basic authenticity you want out of a fantasy story.

On an aside, I kinda felt that way about Revenge of the Sith back in the day. (I was 10)

Its not just that they're slow, they're sluggish.

What's the opposite of slow burn?
