They still got three weeks. Maybe Horner is Troy-ing to rescore it as we speak.

Karol

That good sir is not funny. Not one bit!

The Adventures of Tintin could be the Main Titles....

It very well could be. It could be the main titles, the end credits, or a unique concert arrangement not even in the film!

A Thirst For Adventure aka The Adventure Continues could be any of those things as well!

We need samples!

It's also possible that "Picking Pockets" included the main title music. There might not even be opening credits, might just be studio logos.

Samples would also confirm which version of this mysterious CD we will be getting.

Posted

Samples would also tell us whether JW's still got it or not.

Indeed!

Plus I'd be able to line them up with 2009/2010 cues at least.

Samples would also tell us whether JW's still got it or not.

He does! You only have to listen to his recent concert works and the War Horse trailer to know that!

Yeah that's the one thing we truly worry about. ;)

I wonder what website will be the first to have samples....

Posted

Won't there be an official soundtrack website from Sony Classical? Or maybe from Paramount (like with KOTCS)?

Posted

I've been checking www.sonymasterworks.com everyday and so far there is nothing there

It's also a terribly crappy website

Yes. That bit in the WH trailer promises to be another classic, JW in top form.

Those lousy, lazy, flea-ridden, barnacle encrusted, lily livered, milk moustachioed, troglodytical, thin blooded, gammy handed SONY PR people! I want my soundtrack info now!!! :stick:

Posted

With Geisha, Munich, and IJ4, did we have samples earlier than 3 weeks before the release date?

Posted

Whenever I type in "Sony Classical," all the info I get is about Lang Lang.

Damn, I don't want Lang Lang, I want Tin Tin!

As far as I remember, it was about 2-3 weeks before the release. But not earlier.

Posted

I can't remember when we got the samples for those scores but I remember that back in the day Soundtrack.net had Geisha samples first.

Posted

I remember the same with Episode II, Episode III and I think it was the same with Indy IV. Roughly a month before release.

I think we actually had the whole OST almost month before the official release date. ;)

Posted

1 month before release?

I can't remember talking about the samples for 1 month... even 2-3 weeks seemed to me too long.

Did Geisha leak?

Posted

Enough talk!

Is there any way we could create enough ruckus at the various 19-track sites or with Sony saying that we count on a 19-track release? Like pre-ordering, and then sending a message that we pre-ordered for the 19-track version, not the 18-track?

Posted

Well, it was only 1 month before the CD was in stores, not 1 month before mp3s leaked to the internet :P

Looks like with Geisha, Sony Classical issued a press release about 1 month before release with track titles, and the album cover:

We're 3 WEEKS away from the Tintin OST, and Sony Masterworks has issued NO press releases!! WTF!

I was about to say that.

Karol

Maybe there is no official press release yet because they are still trying to decide whether it's gonna be the 18 or 19 track version!

:P

Hey, that's actually not a bad idea.

Except we are only dozens here. Not thousands. ;)

Nah, they are just too embarassed that Williams wrote the crappiest score of his career, which happens to be his first film work in the 3,5 years. Maybe there are like these whooshing 80's Supergirl synths in it or something. :P

Karol

That's not funny.

(Btw, apropos nothing, congrats to Amanda Knox, who was just acquitted by an appeals court.)

The old Sony classical site was a masterpiece compared to the new one. It does not have any information at all, just a cheap facade. I hope they are going to build it up at some point since now it is completely useless.

Posted

Well, as long as they put more money into creating the soundtracks...

Which I highly doubt. But tough economic times might have forced Sony to lay off the marketing department. :P

Posted

I wonder whether we are now more excited than we will be right before the samples of WH are released...

Yes, probably. :)

Posted

No the madness will go on for months!

Posted

Between now and sometime in mid January this place will be a complete madhouse. I love it!

Posted

Well, Lincoln will be released next year, so the excitement will never really die down...

I love it when Spielberg goes into a work frenzy!

Posted

Lincoln in 2012, Robopacalypse in 2013.... Hopefully something else in 2014!

Posted

When is Tintin 2 slated to be released? 2014?

Not that I have any hopes that JW will score it, mind.

Posted

It will be interesting to see if Jackson continues his work with Williams on Tintin sequels. He really hasn't settled on any one composer besides Shore for LotR franchise.

Posted

It's not slated at all.

The original plan was for Jackson to direct it since Del Toro was supposed to be directing The Hobbit. But The Hobbit was delayed and delayed, and Jackson took over directlng duties and now that its filming they are running behind on that. So Jackson should be busy with Hobbity stuff until 2014 possibly. Then it takes 3 years from filming till final rendering is done. I think someone else will have to direct Tintin2. They didn't film it before Tintin 1 was released because Tintin1 has to make enough money at the box office to justify Tintin 2 being made.

Posted

Oh, it will make enough money. My bet is still on $800 mill. worldwide.

Jackson will direct it, but Spielberg is still the producer, so a JW score is not out of the question. Especially if the 1st is well received.

Posted

Jackson will be busy with The Hobbit until 2014. So if he's going to direct Tintin2, it might not be in theaters until 2018! They don't even have a script yet.

More than likely, if Tintin1 makes enough money, they can write the script and do pre-production throughout 2012, film it in early 2013, and have it in theaters by X-Mas 2015. That's our best bet. But that involves finding another director. Spielberg can't do it because he's busy with Lincoln then Robopcocalypse until the middle of 2013

Posted

Maybe it's best if John Williams writes the score now and they'll just shoot the movie around it.

Karol

Posted

The thing is movies like Tintin are shot very quickly. I seem to have read Spielberg shot it in like 22 days or something. The post production is very long, but I'm not sure if it requires the director to be present every day. As far as I know, Spielberg didn't even set foot on Auckland

Posted

I stand corrected, Steef, but the point still stands. These movies require no location shooting at all. It should be a fairly easy project to squeeze between other projects

Posted

In the comic con Jackson insisted that "please, I want to make my Tintin movie". I think he still has it in mind.

Posted

Yeah, Spielberg said he never left the US for TinTin work. They did the primary mo-cap work in Los Angeles, and then all of the direction with the animators was done over video chat. And as far as TinTin 2 goes, couldn't Jackson potentially fit it into those hiatuses that they've built into the Hobbit production schedule? They could even do it in increments. I suppose that would also all depend on how much prep work they've done for the sequel too.

So when can we expect samples? Surely no later than next weekend...

Posted

There's more to directing a picture than being in the same place as the actors when they shoot their scenes. You get involved from the beginning, directed the shape of the picture to end up the way you want it to be. Even though Jackson wouldn't necessarily write the script, he would work closely with whoever does and develop the story, structure, set pieces, and character arcs with him so that he ends up directing the movie he wants to direct. He has to be involved in casting as well. It's not just something you quickly do in between takes of another major movie you are primarily focused on.

Posted

But while Tintin was being "rendered" so to speak, Spielberg was able to shoot a entirely different movie and one I reckon is logistically quite complex

Posted

I know - but Spielberg spent from after IJ KOCS ended until Tintin filming developing the picture, making sure the script was one he wanted to direct, etc. Then after filming he had to cut everything together to shape the film the way he wanted, then they could render it. Then at some point score was recorded and he put that the partially rendered footage. Then sometime in 2011 more score was recorded, possibly to new scenes that weren't even there before. I know he was able to shoot War Horse while it was rendering, but Jackson would need to be completely done with The Hobbit before he starts thinking about the script of the next movie I would imagine. Maybe I'm wrong.

Posted

Spielberg shoots faster than anyone (while PJ is not really know for his restrain in his storytelling), so I don't think many directors are able to do at the rate Spielberg does it. Even so, I'd much rather have another Tintin movie by Spielberg than one directed by PJ, who in my mind is still yet to make a great movie

Yeah, if you don't consider his LOTR films to be great movies then I guess he will never make a great movie...

Jackson is perfectly capable of pulling off a great Tintin movie, specially if the story is supposed to be Balls/Sun.

Isn't the script for the sequel already being writen as a first draft, though?

I think Jackson would be available from December 2013 on.
