Battle Creek - Vince Gilligan's Followup to Breaking Bad (premieres March 1st 2015)

The project, titled Battle Creek, received a straight-to-series order, according to Variety, and was actually developed in 2002, when Gilligan was fresh off his work on The X-Files. It’s a detective drama about two investigators who have very different worldviews, and it’s hard to see exactly why Gilligan would have come up with that idea in the wake of his work on X-Files.

Honestly I am sure he will make more money from 1 season of this show than all 6 years of Breaking Bad combined.

And then he can pass the reigns of this show off to others and do a more intimate show on a cable channel somewhere.

Can't blame him one bit.

Wishful thinking? LOL

I am sure that is his plan

Unfortunately for you I can't ever see him writing and more TV sci-fi or fantasy.

Why not?

He's matured as a writer. I should imagine he's keen to try new things, new genres. Gilligan is better than Doctor Who or other such nonsense.

Yeah, we could have, like, an actual science-fiction show with some writing talent.

That's disappointing. Never been a fan of weekly crime dramas, especially the ones with self-contained plot lines.

Some of Gilligan's episodes for X-Files were some of the best in the series, like "X-Cops" and "Bad Blood." If he has an interesting twist to the Mulder/Scully dynamic (provided the two investigators are both male and female), then I'm all for it.

Yeah, the casting so far is meh. A show with Gilligan's pedigree deserves to mine unseen talent (like Aaron Paul in "Breaking Bad"), not people who worked with Shore on "House."

I have a feeling this will be Vince's "pay the mortgage" show, and he'll do something more creatively satisfying on cable once this gets off the ground

Does it matter? It's Vince Gilligan!

Seems like it's David Shore's show, and Gilligan is just putting his name behind it. Like Spielberg's been doing for the past three decades.

Past success does not promise such for the future.

He's a great talent, but Breaking Bad was more than just him. It was the perfect combination of so many people and talents that just produced something wonderful. This is a David Shore show produced by Gilligan as others have said, as Better Call Saul will be similarly. Once he decides to do something new and on his own, then I'll take notice, but never will expect something like Breaking Bad again.

Perhaps, but I will remain enthusiastic until he actually lets me down. For now, Breaking Bad is one heck of a great credential, wouldn't you say? Whatever his next 'real' show will be, I'm looking forward to it. To have something to look forward makes me happy.

Big yeah for Dean Winters. The exact opposite for Duhamel. I've seen him in a lot of things, and unless this is a comedy I don't see him holding his own.

He has no gravitas whatsoever. Seems like a horrible casting decision.

Here's looking forward to Gilligans NEXT project :P

This will be a mid-season replacement for CBS next year. Press release:

400.jpg

BATTLE CREEK stars Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters in a drama about two mismatched law enforcement officers whose polar opposite views of the world and crime-solving breed frustration, disdain, humor and possibly a grudging respect as they team together to clean up the hardscrabble streets of Battle Creek, Mich. Det. Russ Agnew (Dean Winters), a good but gruff, hard-boiled detective, has his world upended when strikingly handsome, charismatic Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) opens an FBI field office at the police station and chooses Russ to be his partner. Milts polished sophistication and access to unlimited state-of-the-art equipment is impressive to his new co-workers in the absurdly underfunded department. As Russ and Milt work long hours together in the economically distressed city of Battle Creek, the question is: will it be Milts charm and endless supply of high-end resources or Russs old-fashioned cynicism, guile and deception that prove to be the keys to catching the bad guys in his beloved hometown? Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Edward Fordham and Aubrey Dollar also star. Emmy Award winners Vince Gilligan and David Shore as well as Mark Johnson and Bryan Singer are the executive producers for Sony Pictures Television in association with CBS Television Studios.
