JamieC 13 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 There's a photo of JW here accepting his award (via satellite) : http://www.classicbrits.co.uk/gallery/ceremony
Quintus 5,778 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 is that a somewhat prestigious award?A Brit is the British equivalent of a Grammy.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,078 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I think britt awards are like the British version of the Grammy Awards, KM.
mahler3 515 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 A friend of mine attended the ceremony last night and here's his summary:As well as John Williams being awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award, he also won in the catagory of Best Composer for his work on War Horse and TinTin.There were two musical tributes payed to Williams in last night's ceremony - Nicola Benedetti played the theme from Schindlers List and the London Chamber Orchestra played a medley of William's most famous scores. It is a shame that despite many efforts by the organisers to encourage Williams to attend the event, he politely declined. However, there were two filmed acceptance speeches that were shown which were probably filmed at his home. A truncated version of the ceremony is being transmitted by ITV on Sunday evening.
crumbs 15,552 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Well I'm sure travelling overseas isn't exactly the easiest thing at his age. I'm in my 20's and even I hate long flights.
Jay 43,075 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I don't think he's left the USA since the ROTS recording sessions in 2005

That's great that they aren't suffering from the classical vs film music elitism! welshslider 1
welshslider 2 Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 will try and record the tribute part on my phone (may not look the best but will give it a try.) Hope it doesn't get taken down by Youtube.
welshslider 2 Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 all done. Hope its okay. Sorry its a recording off a phone. Once 1
indy4 159 Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 Awesome, thank you for posting! Can't watch now but I will later.
Omen II 1,271 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 all done. Hope its okay. Sorry its a recording off a phone. Thanks for posting this, welshslider. I'd gone up the stairs to Bedfordshire long before Williams received his lifetime achievement award. There is a nice clip on YouTube of Nicola Benedetti playing the theme from Schindler's List earlier in the evening, just before Williams received the award for best composer (for the record, he was up against Ennio Morricone and Paul Mealor). Unfortunately the video stops before the award 'presentation', but it's worth watching anyway.[media=] By the way, the whole programme is available to view on ITV Player at http://www.itv.com/i.../?Filter=326279, but I am not sure if viewers outside the British Empire will be able to view it. welshslider 1
indy4 159 Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 Darn, it's not availble in the US. Hopefully somebody'll put it on YouTube.
Luke Skywalker 2,223 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 beautiful perfonamce, thanks omen II
welshslider 2 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Great find Omen II. Also now ITV player is on sky we can rerun from our planner.
Melange 448 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 It is a shame that despite many efforts by the organisers to encourage Williams to attend the event, he politely declined. Impliment Operation Willy, I say, the extradtion order of Mr John Williams from the U.S to the UK for questioning in relation to music.
