  1. I prefer the original version of Jedi to the "Special Edition", but it's an excellent film IMO...
  2. While there might be some rock artists who can compose for an orchestra, I think this would be a VERY small minority. I agree with Fiery Angel. Let's give composers for orchestras their proper due!
  3. Wondering about JW's underwear might be taking being a fan to a new high (or low)... Agreed!
  4. LOL It only counts if it's not true!
  5. Liking everything JW has done is not being a snob (in response to pat burke). I am most definitely not a JW snob. But, even weaker JW scores are better than a lot of stuff done by other composers...
  6. Going back to the start of this thread, I think composers generally have about 3 months to compose and orchestrate their scores. Some composers (Bruce Broughton on Lost In Space) had considerably less time than this.
  7. Thanks. It's too bad that he can't enjoy his works as much as we do; maybe he'd just hear things that he would want to improve...
  8. Spielberg is currently developing various projects. There's a possibility that Indy 4 will be his next directing gig, but there are also reports that he might be taking as much as a year off...
  9. It's not a big deal; the next thread will be a bigger deal: QUESTION: What colour socks will John Wililams wear tomorrow...
  10. My disappointment with a score isn't based on whether it's composed by JW. JW is my favourite - hence, my being part of this board. But, one of the things I love about this board is that you guys know and like so many other composers; I've bought scores based on comments made by people on this board. This really is a board for people who love film/television scores.
  11. Yes, it is - and the score is one of my favourites. Don't know why I like the score so much, but I do.
  12. I think it's still available John. I just ordered it a couple of weeks ago, and just got it. It's a "nice" listen, but don't think it will be one of my staples. The score that I feel I wasted money on is "Broadcast News". Oh well, I wanted it for a long time, and now I have it!
  13. There was a film I first saw ages ago, called "Star Wars" - it's now been renamed "Star Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope". I liked the original title better...
  14. Would love to attend, but couldn't leave work even to attend the NYC JW concert... Good luck!
  15. I have each of the 3 OSTs plus the bootleg for Future I. I listen to them occasionally, and I do like them in the films. But, they don't blow me away either.
  16. I don't think anyone but the Chinese will be in charge. JW may not compose anything for the opening or closing ceremonies, but if NBC has the broadcast rights (which I believe it does), then NBC may commission JW to compose a new/updated olympic theme for its broadcasts.
  17. I agree; one of the great things about this board is that everyone appreciates much more than just the works of JW!
  18. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but the first version of Star Wars that I heard was the theme by Meco. I was a little kid, and it played on the radio, and I taped it. I still listen to it occasionally - it takes me back to when all I knew of Star Wars was this little disco theme, and some pictures in kids' magazines. (I was living in England at the time, so Star Wars had opened huge in the States, and we were all waiting for it to open in England). When I finally saw Star Wars at Leicester Square in London during it's first week of release, I was totally blown away by the movie and by the music.
  19. Waiting for a score requires no effort at all - but wanting an unreleased/rare score can be consuming!
  20. Thanks for trying; I don't understand people who don't share things like this. Thankfully most people on this board aren't like that!
  21. Steef's right - Im surprised that Spielberg's involved with this. What business opportunities does he see to cozy up to the Chinese government? I know that just a few days ago, the Chinese announced that they would crack down on movie/music pirates.
  22. The last 15 minutes of Close Encounters; The barrell chase from Jaws; The chase scene and farewell from E.T. (trying not to list anything that's already been mentioned).
