  1. Is JP3 even long enough for 2 CDs? The film is barely 90 minutes, albeit seemingly scored wall-to-wall (with lots of unused music in the final cut after realising how poorly spotted it was).
  2. FFS Williams, stop taking credit for this Star Wars Rebels crap!
  3. Does this occur in TFA?!? Possible TLJ cue?? Spoiler protected just in case.
  4. What's this? http://repertoire.bmi.com/DetailView.aspx?detail=titleid&keyid=24556798&ShowNbr=0&ShowSeqNbr=0&blnWriter=True&blnPublisher=True&blnArtist=True&blnAltTitles=True A rumoured TLJ track title from months ago... Registered via Bantha Music under JW's name. Note the chronology of its BMI#. Most entries for TFA are in the 21###### range, BFG around 22######, Rogue One around 23######. This is 24######.
  5. I said it won't be a march! Williams only writes those at the drop of a foot!
  6. I'm feeling strangely confident that Kylo will have a new/expanded theme, rather than just his two separate ideas in TFA. Williams will roll them together to bring it closer with Imperial March, but with greater 'hesitancy' and without the brash confidence of a march.
  7. That was his eighteenth revision of Torn Apart, after seeing the seventy-first revision of JJ's edit.
  8. Yes, I'm aware of that. My point is that despite being bedridden for the planned scoring dates, they could've rescheduled later in the year but instead chose to finish the film immediately with another composer. I don't think TFA's sessions were supposed to go as late as they did; that was a result of JJ's constant revisions. RPO isn't out for 4 months but Spielberg's chosen to score the film now rather than wait for Williams to write the score and record next February. Presumably the film required some heavy spotting and Williams wasn't able to/decided not to spend his time post-TLJ (June onwards) working on RPO, instead focusing on concerts and taking a writing break before doing The Post.
  9. Well his last four finale tracks on Star Wars OSTs have been 10, 11, 13, and 9 minutes, so we can expect at least that for the finale track. That leaves an approx. duration of 3.5 minutes for each remaining track. No doubt there'll be combined tracks and a few shorter ones. TFA's OST had about 7 tracks ~2 minutes or less, allowing for a few longer action tracks (hopefully 5 minutes or so).
  10. Absolutely, it's probably the strongest stretch of music in the film. It's just that instantly recognizable, effortless John Williams in Star Wars mode writing we all know and love. Not one moment under or overscored; just a superb selection of music right to the end of the credits. Very glad Williams gave us the entirety of the finale unedited on the OST (unlike all the terrible edits in the glorious ROTS finale).
  11. Similar thing happened with Bridge of Spies. Williams could probably have written that score after finishing TFA, but for whatever reason the score had to be wrapped during that period around April-May (despite the December release date). It might be a contractual thing about the length of a movie's post-production, where you can't have the entire post production team waiting around for months on end simply for the score to be recorded (when everything else is finished). Clearly the schedule takes precedence even over Williams doing the score, which seems surprising but is probably the reality of the business (time is money!)
  12. Oh wow, they're already recording the score! Guess that's why Williams didn't score it, Spielberg must want both his films wrapped before Christmas (maybe barring VFX revisions for RPO). Nice of Williams to drop by the sessions though, just to add another layer of stress to Silvestri's job. Nice of Silvestri to address comments on his social media too: rojas_gustyyFirst time with spielberg as director how would have been the experience? alan.silvestri_music@rojas_gustyy amazing
  13. Why, JJ, why?! Was he just hoarding as many alternates as possible on the assumption he'd never get another chance to work with Williams?
  14. I know it won't happen for innumerable reasons, but it would be nice if Williams ghost-wrote a few cues for this score (given it's a celebration of retro films, despite Spielberg's refusal to reference his own material).
  15. HP1 and AI, probably two of the best scores Williams has ever written... and they just had to coincide with Shore's magnum opus. I can't begrudge him for that. Still, what are the bloody odds? Probably the same as Brokeback Mountain being the sympathy vote flavour of the month in 2006.
  16. I'll be shocked if there isn't a track called that, unless it's something like 'Chewie's New Friends.' I just have a sneaking suspicion, if they're as big a part of the film as predicted, JW might have indulged with a cheeky concert suite for their theme... but then again, we all expected BB8 to have a theme/motif and we got nothing except the 2 note map motif.
  17. TFA, yes. But we're yet to see any sign that JW's total music written for TLJ comes close to the film's runtime. I'm predicting he spotted & wrote about 130 minutes of music and had less than 10-15 minutes worth of substantial alternates. Just something about Rian's process seems very confident and assured, unlike JJ's.
  18. What are you talking about? Those are the track titles. Frankly, I'm gobsmacked Williams has broken with tradition and not called his credits suite Untitled Track 20 and Finale.
  19. Sounds like they've received preliminary details of the OST then. I can't wait to complain about the next I Am The Senate! Also, that's 24 seconds longer than TFA's very generous OST, so there's indeed longer tracks this time. Thank you Mr. Williams! Noteworthy that 5 people have clearly already heard the OST (judging by the star rating) and two of them have rated the score 1 star. Everybody panic!
  20. I think Williams has resigned to never winning another Oscar (maybe barring Episode IX), so he'd just happily take the double nomination at this point. That's even more celebratory, given the consistent quality of his writing despite his age. I think Memoirs was the closest he's come since Schindler's List, but if he couldn't even win for Lincoln without the double nom...?
  21. Or a shorter OST. But seriously, less tracks but the same OST length would indicate: a) a more stable, less haphazard film edit that allowed Williams to write his music in long-form (unlike TFA, which feels more like an assembly line of one minute cues) b) more combination tracks comprising of multiple cues, Azkaban OST style (which was 20 tracks + the 12 minute credits suite) Allowing for a 10 minute credits suite, I think we can rule out any indulgent 11 minute action tracks (ala Zam The Assassin and the Chase Through Coruscant). Williams even kept Follow Me and The Falcon as separate tracks for TFA, despite the cues belonging together.
  22. Scherzo for X-Wings sounds identical, as does Arrival on Takodana. There might be some performance differences in the ROTJ material though, which is interesting. Note that Superstructure Chase is only available in the 1997 SEs, which Disney have seemingly 'scrapped' or considered unworthy for release. Could indicate newer transfers have been made for the OT scoring sessions, not just the OST masters.
