  1. This is one of Williams's weakest scores of the millenium so far. A largely boring and forgettable affair. Not that The Last Jedi was fun, but it was less boring than this. Urk, not a fan at all of Williams's "developement" since 2005 - this is easily his weakest decade since he began scoring. The 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s were great decades for him but now in the 10s he just couldn't keep it up. He hasn't even written a single score this decade that can measure up to any of the top 5 scores of the previous 4 decades.
  2. It is probably the weakest Star Wars score written by John Williams. Attack of the Clones, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi are the three weakest ones by far.
  3. His actions seem to say that he isn't the biggest fan of it, but I could very much be wrong. He seems a bit muted to me. No note in the score album either, perhaps a sign? Although obviously, he won't say so. He also just liked a comment on Twitter where someone said the best soundtrack moment of the year was the strech of silence in The Last Jedi. Now, that's some shade!
  4. It is because Johnson temp tracked the whole movie with old SW stuff.... maybe.
  5. Or wait, I was wrong, it is his second favorite film of all time if this list is to be believed: https://www.criterion.com/explore/37-rian-johnson-s-top-10 He put 8½ as 1st or maybe it is just a top 10 in no particular order.
  6. Top 6 favorite tracks for me I think: The Fathiers, The Battle of Crait, The Supremacy, The Spark, The Rebellion is Reborn and Finale. I have diffficulty to decide if like the score more than TFA or not, in my mind it is a close battle. I enjoy the energy and underscore of TLJ more but miss a new big themes like Rey and Jedi Steps here. Had Williams introduced one big theme like Rey, and preferably also done a end credit suite like TFA the battle would have been easy, but right now I lean toward prefering TFA a tad more as a whole. I also miss TFA's less notes "wasted" aspect which I saw someone mention. Tracks like a Chrome Dome and The Cave drags the score down a bit. The "fun" in Canto Bight is OK, I prefer Phantom Menace's Augie's Municipal Band much more when it comes to such things.
  7. Let us know what you think when you get the chance to hear it. Would be nice to hear if you think it is better than TFA of not too.
  8. Which are the best cues on the album in your opinion (anyone who might read this)?
  9. I agree with your take on this. I'd rate it 3/5 for Williams, 4/5 compared to all other scores out there. Overall it is a disappointment.
  10. Listening now, so far NOT impressed at all.So far it plays like a weaker extension of TFA. Hopefully there is more to it, I am not even half way through. Edit; ok it got better now after the re-threading. Hopefully it continues.
  11. Highly doubt a nice mediocrity like that will be better than the highlights ot TLJ and The Post.
  12. So that may be one of the biggest let downs of the score, Holdo's Theme (if it is a theme). I really wonder if that Long Goodbye is distracting in the film with no real context for the use of it, sounds like it to me. Sounds temp tracked because that film is one of Johnson's all-time favorite films. Why, why use that thing here... was it a new variation of it in the casino or what's the context? Is there more choir here, or is it just the very low voices for Snoke again? What would you say is the biggest surprise of the score (if there are any surprises that is), aside from the old themes you mentioned returning? I have no more questions for now.
  13. Could you give us some comments on the score? Was it good as TFA, weaker, better?
  14. I wonder if anyone who has seen/heard the score would consider it stronger or weaker than TFA? My prediction = about the same, the themes will be disappointing, but other things will make up for it.
