I believe it’s something like Des-plaw. At least, that’s how an acquaintance pronounced it and she was apparently a big fan of his.

The Official La-La Land Records Thread
A. A. Ron replied to robthehand's topic in General Discussion
I’d seen about half the films before and just marathoned the other half in December in honor of the new LLL albums. All of the Moore and Dalton films were new to me. Can’t say I loved everything about the Moore era, but I will buy any and every Barry Bond album LLL can put out, as well as For Your Eyes Only. -
For anyone who may have been using this cover, I've updated the above post with a cleaner, freshly made version. On the original, I had extended the star field manually in Gimp, literally painting in the extra stars myself. This time, I used the built-in AI in Photoshop to do the extension, getting much better results.

I just did a marathon of all the Bonds I hadn’t seen yet in honor of the new LLL albums and I gotta say, there’s a reason Octopussy is so obscure. Nice little score though. -
Well I rearranged the whole set putting all the alternate score cues together and moving the songs to their own section -- Sorry album producers, I did at least listen to Disc 3 as intended the first time, I promise! I also made gapless versions of The Flying Sequence/You Are the Pan and all of the cues from The Ultimate War through The End of Hook (but kept the discrete versions as well). In the interest of making playlists with swappable cues, I separated the End Title and Exit Music and also added the Pirate Town cues to the beginning of the Vocal version of Presenting the Hook. I haven't moved the tracks from the end of Disc 3 anywhere as I like them where they are, but I did put the Concertina between Stop That Clock and The Home Run on one of my playlists.

I paid over $400 for The Incredibles cast and crew disc several years ago, but I just ripped it and immediately sold it again. Believe it or not, I even made a slight profit! And then pissed off the traders by immediately sharing it in FLAC. 😂 Why they cared so much when it was already available in 320 kbps mp3 is anyone’s guess.

Composer Threads The Bear McCreary Thread
A. A. Ron replied to Taikomochi's topic in General Discussion
That was a great read, thanks for sharing! That said, Bear says in the post that he didn’t compose anything for Kings of the Sun. He just re-orchestrated it. In other words, Elmer let Bear participate in the process of picking which specific instruments got to play which pieces of music. All the music was still written by Elmer. -
Absolutely agree with all of this! I’m personally delighted the vocal version has been released. While I completely understand and sympathize with this perspective, it also seems like something of an evolution to me on Thor’s part that he’s willing to play album producer/curator in this case. Seems to me an admission that there absolutely is some value in archival releases, even if it does seem to imply that he doesn’t think as highly of MM’s album sequencing as he does JW’s.

Rings of Power Bear McCreary's The Rings of Power APPRECIATION thread
A. A. Ron replied to Jay's topic in Tolkien Central
Just give Tracks 3-15 of the main album a spin. They’re basically all theme suites anyway. If you like it play the rest. Personally, I don’t really play the episode albums, but the main OST has some of my absolute favorite material from Bear. And this is from someone who saw the whole season and ultimately didn’t like the show. -

The Indiana Jones Disenchantment Thread!
A. A. Ron replied to Mr. Hooper's topic in General Discussion
Voller surviving without a scratch is ridiculous. Indy, Willie and Short Round jumping out of an airplane in an inflatable life raft is worse. Nuking the fridge is on a whole other level from even those. It's an aggressively ok movie. I consider TLJ, TROS and all three Hobbit movies far worse even while admitting that most of those have at least a few good scenes in them. Still, people defend all of these, even TROS sometimes. Guess we all just have different definitions of "bad." -
The Dial of Destiny Appreciation Thread
A. A. Ron replied to Jurassic Shark's topic in General Discussion
It's a C and it has almost nothing to do with ol' Phoebs. In fact, I'd say most of the movie is pretty well cast. The plot just isn't very good. Thank God we at least got Johnny baby to score it! -
Also there’s only like 5 bidders. There’s only a huge number of bids because the bidders are bad at guessing how high their opponents have already gone.

It's just not in a style that I love. I like it well enough (and have it on my phone actually), just not as much as his later material.

Even if the link hadn't been shared here and elsewhere, I'm sure plenty of people have eBay notifications enabled for saved searches like "BFG FYC," "BFC consideration," "BFG promo," etc. I certainly do.

Heidi and Jane Eyre are the first scores that are recognizably written in the kind of style I love from J Dubs. Jaws is the first score of his that I would call a masterpiece. On the other end of the spectrum, The Force Awakens is the most recent Williams score I would call a masterpiece, but I am still completely comfortable calling the other 2 Star Wars sequels and Dial of Destiny great scores as well.
