  1. Which one was Aragorn? Who was the cute guy helping the three hobits and is engaged to Liv Tyler's character? Now I didn't like what he was wearing at all, far too much, he could have shown more skin IMHO!!!!! And as for Legolass/Justin Timberlake/Elf man, now he was cute too, however out of all the cute guys I have to say that there wasn't enough of the women, like Live Tyler... I would have loved to see more of her (fully clothed and kicking ass of course)
  2. Unless you work in Hollywood, in music, which I do and have spoken to a lot of the guys that do work for Williams and studdied under them, do not presume to know what John Williams does or does not do. He does orchestrate himself, he knows exactly what he likes and he is far above the rest of them out there when it comes to orchestration. His "orchestrators" transcribe his music, they do NOT orchestrate at all!!!!!! This is also the reason why he is NOT doing the WHOLE of Harry Potter 2. If his orchestrators did more than just transcribe his work, he could finish the whole score in sketch form and then have them do the rest, which is the case with a lot of composers out there. Instead, he says 40 minutes is all I can do myself, and he gives the rest of the work to someone else to do. I am not saying this as a fan on this board but as someone who knows what the score is. And Don Davis? Yes he is a good orchestrator, but no where near the level of complexity and maturity of Williams. Please, every working composer out there marvels at how far forward Williams is.
  3. What people are failing to point out and sorry, but I am upset right now is that Williams composes classicaly. His orchestrations are unparalleled and he is the LAST of the great old school composers. All the others you guys are mentioning are fine doing film music, but they sound generic. It's all deneric film music. You don't hear a score by these composers and have bassoons up high on a melody and every brass heard seperately and every instrument in the orchestra shining left right and center. Only Williams does that. He writes like a classical composer, the only one out there that does so. When you hear brass from the others, it's just that BRASS, loud and overbearing. There's no subtleties in their writing. SOmetimes it's like, oh look, here's 6 horns blasting away withohut the other brass but that's about it. With Williams, it's tuba, bass trombone, trombones unison, trumpets and trombones, horns, horns and trumpets... every combination imaginable to create different pallets and solos from all of the above, the same goes for his woodwind writing, and his string writing is far above any other composer out there especially his frasing and the textures. Nowadays his percuission writing has reached a complexity that I have not heard from anyone else. No, no one else can replace him and I'm saying this as a composer, as an oboe and english horn player, as someone who studied classical music all my life and it was my major and minor and otherwise, and as a listner and fan. No one. Anyone who tackles Harry Potter has a huge obstacle in front of them. A comparison that is unatainable by all of the composers out there. When it comes to adventure scoring, no one else can even reach half of what John is able to do. Don Davis? Don is a good composer, but his Jurrasic Park score suffered from exactly what I'm talking about. It's big, it's brash, but it has no memorable themes, no subtleties, no clear cut orchestrations, and no playfulness. It's just one thing, BIG. It's the biggest mistake composers out there do when tackling an adventure score, they think it should be big and it just ends up being boring by the end. It should be everything, from sad, to happy, to playful, to big, to small and it should take you on the adventure. That's what John does and it's the one thing none of the others do. There is a reason that Spielberg says that John basically writes the film with his music. The same mistake was made by Shore in LOTR not to mention the mummy scores. They are all like one wave of HUGE SOUND. No subtleties, no emotion, no playfulness like in the indiana Jones music, no bravado like in Star Wars, no "wonder". That's it. It's that sense of wonder that John captures every time. Magic.
  4. The orchestral score of the Childrens suite is at Hal Leonard. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Childrens Suite for Orchestra Catalogue # 04490216 $60
  5. I still wish he would drop the Spielberg picture as it sounds like a thriller that many composers could do, and work on Harry Potter, an adventure score that most composers out there could not even tackle, and pretty much all composers who would tackle it would pale in comparason to Williams.
  6. I have to say that I am not happy about this. I would much prefer him to not score catch me if you can which sounds like a generic score to me, and do Harry Potter. I loved the first score. It's one of my favorite scores. WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY???????????????????????????????
  7. I understand what you are saying but out of all the composers he is the only one that is original from one film to the next, look at Minority Report, and AOTC, both are departures for him. A.I. was completely different to Harry Potter and TPM. Not to mention all his concert pieces that are completely different to his film work.... Most other composers sound the same over and over and over.
  8. That was too funny! I've never really watched the show that much but every match I have seen I have loved!!! It's no more violent than anything else that is out there.. At least with what I have seen, and at least this is done with humor
  9. Evil Under the Sun is EXCELENT!!!!!!!! I loved when Maggie was trying to solve everything and kept getting the wrong end of the stick I never saw VIP's... I'm going to have to find it!!!
  10. Now if I can just somehow get them to cast Angelica Houston for Maxim.....
  11. Morn Morn Morn....... I can't believe you didn't like the trailer, already the effects are 100 times better, the actors look more comfortable in their parts, and it looks plain fun
  12. Marian, Oh my God, Miranda Richardson as Reeta Skeeter..... That is such a brilliant bit of casting, I can't believe I didn't think of it. Angelica Houston is so perfect as madame Maxim, I hope they think about it, especially after seeing her in "Ever After". That's where I got my quote about not speaking unless you can improve upon the silence Angela Landsbury as trelawny, good one Dole! And Stefan... Maggie Smith is excelent in everything. She just can do no wrong in my eyes. She just has to change her facial features a little and you know exactly what she is thinking, and the delivery of those lines are impecable. She was amazing in "Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" "California Suite" "Evil Under The Sun" to name a few...... Even when she has a bit part she steals scenes! OK, I must remember that this is NOT MSFan.net but JWFan.net
  13. WHat's wrong with Colin Firth, Judi Dench or Kate Winslet, or even Colin Farrel! Better than seeing Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in it... Although I wouldn't mind seeing..... SPOILERS.... ....seeing the giant in Goblet "Madame Maxim" played by Angelica Houston... Was it in Goblet? I think so..... That's who I imagined in the role And what about that batty Professer Trelawney? I always saw Maggie Smith playing her, and now I'm confused...... Mad Eye Moody..... possibly Patrick Stewart? And Rita Skeeter? completely drawing a blank there...
  14. Finally people are seeing the film for what it really was.. a mishmash
  15. Titanic was a much better film than both TPM and AOTC. Please, I never felt embarrased when i was watching Titanic as I did in both of those Star Wars F..k-ups!
  16. Exactly what Chris said!!!!! And I too would like to know what Williams thought of AOTC!
  17. I think Maggie Smith should have had a theme however since she didn't I voted for Han... and then Amidala
  18. OK Ross, I understand that you didn't like the music used in sail barge, but what I think we are saying, or at least I am saying is that it was a complete cue, one complete piece of music. In AOTC it was chopped up little pieces of music from 4 different cues. None of it flowed. That is the difference. It was jarring to say the least. You are completely in your right not to like the use of the tie fighter cue, but at least it worked in itself as one piece of music. That is what I was so insulted by in AOTC. Does this make any sense?... see my above post....
  19. There's absolutely nothing wrong with adding excitement... What is wrong is changing the plot, the dialogue, the story, that would be wrong. Film is a completely different medium to books, so much has to be condensed yet they have to strive to be faithful but also capture the magic and excitement. It's hard... Ocelot And yes, the images are 10 times better already!
  20. I wonder what hector posted...... As for Importance of Being Ernest, it wasn't that good. I was looking forward to it especially with that cast and it wasn;t snappy enough, it lost something. However I loved Gosford Park (because of Maggie Smith) and I know a lot of people who didn't.
  21. No matter, it doesn't really deserve what it's getting, but I hope it gets more just because I want to see it do good.
  22. Neil, Is that Denise Richards? Are we resorting to this now??????????
