  1. Amen brother, 100% along the same lines Film scores lately have been a disappointment after disappointment, Nothing inspires me anymore. Wall paper is the best term Sad but true.
  2. That's the one for me, never being as inspired by another poster
  3. you kiddin'? The Thing is one of my favourite films of all time, Unbelievable effects for the those days and still hold today (better than other films because they were simply there and not CG) I know what you mean about the ending but I wouldn't say the film suffers from it. In the end of the day it was a huge monster and it would have been extremely difficult to do it for real. Man what a film though, I think about it and I am having flashes of horror!!
  4. Neeeahhhh, don't know how to feel about this, Williams' style has changed dramatically since then. There is no way he will write a better score...hmmm. We'll see I suppose
  5. Adventures on Earth (also my most favourite JW track of all time) Saying that I love the ending from The Empire Strikes Back
  6. It's an absolutely beautiful theme, it portrays the love between Anakin and Padme better than the movie does in my opinion. The middle part is excellent, i did learn it by ear and it was a bit tricky to get it but the rest is easy but beautiful. If I could do the arr I would put flourishings and kindda concert style piano to beef it up a bit. Saying that I don't know what the published work sounds like
  7. Shame, When is he coming back to London????
  8. You are the Pan is beautiful, Jane Eyre is cool but I don't like Window to the Past
  9. Good on you man, Anakin's Betrayal has grown on me a lot! But I still can't listen to the rest of it. Shame On a same note I couldn't listen to Memoirs but now I can't stop playing Confluence.
  10. Cherise-Ultimate Passion 3 Jessica Rabbit - Who framed Roger Rabbit
  11. That's fantastic!! Let's hope the same happens @ the Oscars!!
  12. I see what you are saying, I can't help but being prejudiced if I hear bad things about a score. So I avoid them in general. I'm happy with my own tastes. I generally buy Williams scores (off course) and other than that I buy scores that I'm impressed from a movie or trailer (trailers are dangerous though, I bought 'The Girl with a Pearl Earning' and I never felt I wasted money on a CD before this moment in my life)
  13. Mainly old stuff and the latest soundtracks, I was listening to his music when I was a kid but there is no way I can remember titles. I dug out Dragon the other day and off course I have heard Alexander, 1492 Conquest of paradise and Blade runner. The synth works I heard ages ago it was the one that got him established (can't remember the title to save my life!)
  14. I personally avoid reviews. Listening to Williams has been a personal experience as for a very long time I was the only fan I knew of his music (that was until I found this site and blissfully discovered I'm not alone!!!). So I prefer to listen to a disc with an open mind totally uninfluenced by other people's opinions. Do reviews have any effect to the way you listen to a new soundtrack?
  15. That's exactly the problem some people (including me) might have... Setting aside the issue if one thinks him overly talented or not, nobody can do complex orchestrations "and what not" with merely talent. That takes training. -Chris, who doesn't hate Vangelis. Yeah, that's it, Also I don't hate Vangelis, I just dislike his film music ethic. In fact I don't remember hating any composer. Cool. We'll leave it at that. Now go listen to Soil Festivities. 8O He he, I'll might do if I find some time, I dug out The Dragon album (197something) the other day and he looked like a werewolf bless him. It was the 70's after all That's one that I don't have. Ah, I could copy it (if it's acceptable around here  ) but it's on vinyl Mucho appreciated if you could put it to CD. PM me if you are willing to do it. I could hook you up there Stewdog. I have both Hypothesis and The Dragon on vinyl (both bootleg vinyl records.) They both fit onto one CD and I transferred them to CD a few years ago. Both feature violin work by long-time Vangelis friend Michel Ripoche (China). I don't have the CD with me it's in the UK, but I could make you a copy in May when I go back. James I think it's best to go with James, it's a pain for me to do a transfer at the mo
  16. I'm spoiled too but Blade Runner is perfect. He practically IS the movie. He captured the soul of that film. No Williams or Goldsmith could've done it better. ---------------- Alex Cremers That's the one movie I like from all of his work on films. The synths gave the film a colour but I think it's a one off thing. I did like the film too. It was very unusual for the time.
  17. Cool. We'll leave it at that. Now go listen to Soil Festivities. He he, I'll might do if I find some time, I dug out The Dragon album (197something) the other day and he looked like a werewolf bless him. It was the 70's after all
  18. Who is? I don't see anybody around here comparing V to those guys. It's not about comparisons, it's about quality of film music writing. Just because people like the guy it doesn't mean I cannot express my opinion about his music. And I'm sorry but as a listener I have been 'spoled' by the greats and I cringe when I hear certain cues. He is a mediocre film music composer and that is that as far as I'm concerned. OK , look, I stated before why I personally have a problem with people who have this kind of attitude towards music and I'm not about to argue the same thing again. And my feelings about orchestrations and melodic writing is something that frustrates me about composers for over 6-7 years now. So it wasn't only about 'V' but a more general thing even though it applies to him more than anyone else in the business. On the other hand I like his other works a lot so it's not like I hate the guy. Film music wise he is not doing it for me and that's all.
  19. 350? Blimey , it sounds very narrow That's because the recording sucks. There's a Boston Pops performance that's much better . K.M. Thanks, I'll look it up
  20. I came across Dracula all by accident a long time ago. I had no idea he had written that. When I took it home I was totally blown away. So much so that it's my second most favourite Williams score of all times! #1 Podium is shared with ET and TESB
  21. Erm...what? :? I was listening to his early stuff when some people were in their diapers dude, Vangelis Papathanasiou has released a lot of good stuff outside the film world. But his film scoring is mediocre full stop. I cannot take someone who fuffles about with keyboards and place him next to John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and all the greats of this craft. Sorry And with the first grade film music school type of melodies and orchestrations? Enough, please, no more
