"Faithfulness" to source material has nothing to do with a film's quality. Hellboy is a good movie no matter how you look at it. Well said! Last week I had an argument with someone who is a big fan of the X-Men comic books and she kept saying how the first two films are weak because they are not true to the comics. I don't care about the comics, I said, I try to evaluate the movies on their own merits. Then she said that the third movie promises to be much better because Singer is no longer at the helm. Sigh. I never said that the faithfulness of the film had anything to do with its quality, I was merely making a statement. If I had been familiar with the Hellboy comic books beforehand, I would still like the movie whether it was faithful or not. Its the same with Burton's Batman movies.
