  1. Just got back from seeing the film and despite thinking the score was shite a week ago, I was pleasantly surprised to find how effective it was in the film. There were a few moments where it reverted to loud=epic but the theme was strong enough to pull it through.
  2. My copy arrived the other day, but it had been sent in a normal magazine subscription plastic bag meaning there was zero protection - the cd case was poking through! Otherwhise, the magazine is decent and I'm pleased to have this issue, it's my first Williams magazine feature.
  3. Either way it was as jarring as it would be to have a polygonal Lara Croft appear in the new Tomb Raider films. Set against a highly polished, photo-realistic world, Luke looks like a sentient dummy. The Uncanny Valley is well and truly something we are still dangling over the edge of. Might've been a better idea for Luke to keep his hood up, we all know what he sounds like to recognise it's him...
  4. The Reznor/Ross material is boring and soulless. No strong thematic identity to pull it altogether. Batiste's jazz pieces are nice, but maybe for an inoffensive, easy-listening playlist; his pieces seem to be the more meaty work the score has to offer. I can understand Docter wanting to shake things up, but this score is more like a diet-Inside Out.
  5. I forgot I'm on the JWFan forums, so the bias is overwhelmingly against Shore's scores.
  6. He should've just said he was taking a break, not make a fuss about doing too many superhero scores. To be honest it seems like a click-bait heading giddy journalists ran amok with, stretching entire articles out of a few of Zimmer's words.
  7. Good news! I think this series has managed to make a successful alternative to the film adaptation, the cast, production and writing are all great!
  8. Luke isn't invulnerable to letting his emotions cloud his judgement, the fear of losing all that he had come to create - the new Jedi Order - and fearing the power inside Ben is something that humanizes him beyond the 2D character of the OT. To say it's not something he would do is to believe that these characters are fundamentally unchangeable across their lifetimes.
  9. I wonder if Gideon a Mandalorian? Can anyone who lays claim to the Saber rule Mandalore? Maybe it'll be answered eventually. For many people, I believe that they were hoping for something not unlike what we saw on The Mandalorian, that Luke would be cutting down the First Order tanks and walkers and using the force in spectacular ways etc. I don't think any of the arguments hold any water as to why Luke should've been some awesome avenger, instead of the man we saw in TLJ, because of what was set up in TFA. I also have an issue where people expect these elderly characters (and actors) to perform like some ninja warriors. I think they at least handled Han Solo well, giving him more of an Obi-Wan role in TFA, nothing too lithe or energetic.
  10. I think it was only Howe involved, but if he has left too... damn.
  11. My gut feeling when Amazon announced this series was that they're trying to get that Game of Thrones fix by squeezing Tolkien's work like juicing a lemon. You can use a juicer, like PJ, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens did for LotR, or you can fucking squeeze that lemon until you're red in the face and you have lemon all over your counter and your shirt - that's what the recent move concerning the writers felt like.
  12. In Rebels, the Dark Saber was passed down to the heir of Mandalore, Sabine Wren, who decided Bo Katan was the better leader and gave it to her. This whole 'Elder Wand' mix-up is a bit silly in respect to what we've seen of the Saber in other shows.
  13. 'Substantial' is a loaded term - there are a few pieces not presented on the 'Complete Edition' plus the Tron/Scherzo source music. It's bizarre and misleading to call this edition complete, though.
  14. For a 40th anniversary of one of the franchise's most celebrated films, Disney have done fuck all. No special celebration, no special sets of the film and nothing on the score at all.
  15. An Unexpected Journey is a better film objectively than Phantom Menace. It was tougher choosing the scores, because not only did I grow up with the Prequel Scores, I'm rather fond of that Williams sound. A real challenge would be to pit the Prequels against LotR, in that case, I would choose Shore's scores over Williams'...
  16. The Mattrissorian The clues are on the sheets...
  17. I would've thought Palpatine might've consulted the Kaminoans as part of an extensive contingency plan as they were already established cloners. Maybe Jedi are harder to clone??? The original EU books already featured the idea of Palpatine going through multiple clones before trying to possess Luke's body.
  18. It isn't clear how many clones of Palpatine were created between Return of the Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, but I'm guessing the stability of each depended on the midichlorian count of whatever cells they could find. They lucked out with Grogu, but who knows how many other Jedi were used to sustain him? Palpatine pushes the Jedi to extinction, then needs them to help him survive - ironic eh? It would be interesting to see Palpatine in such a vulnerable position, like somewhere between a Force Ghost and a Zombie. Kinda similar to Voldemort in Goblet of Fire. I hope future shows can give more insight. I've often said that the weakest parts of the Sequel Trilogy, namely the preponderance of the First Order and later with Palpatine's return, are woefully underdeveloped.
  19. 1. The Force Awakens 2. The Last Jedi 3. The Mandalorian Season Two 4. The Mandalorian Season One 5. The Rise of Skywalker 6. Solo 7. Rogue One My enjoyment of the Mandalorian is because of the reverence towards the Prequels and both Clone Wars and Rebels.
  20. It's all about that sweet, sweet dough. Had a listen to this yesterday, everything sounds like it was sequenced on a computer. The brass sounded like a synth patch through a keyboard.
  21. This wasn't announced anywhere! WTF Disney?
