  1. There's no doubt in my mind that it would have been much better. To me the Skywalker symphony recording just sounds like a quickly put together project, with not much attention to details. There's a terrible Tuba "cack" in Forest Battle which is inexcusable. Happens at around 0:57, there's no way it should have stayed there.
  2. That’s good way to describe it 😃 I wish we played more of it here. I think Mahler 4 is up in a few months. But it’s the smallest one.
  3. I feel the same about classical music. I play it at work so why would I listen to it. Especially that my orchestra is small. We won’t be playing Mahler and Strauss anytime soon...might as well listen to JW.
  4. Maybe it was those Belgian beers I had before bed..
  5. As much as I share your enthusiasm for a new JW SW score in 2019, the guy is 87, with fairly severe hearth issues. Let’s stay realistic gents. There’s still a chance he won’t ever write another movie score. Let’s make sure that we don’t live in the future, but we appreciate the decades of incredible music he wrote for us to enjoy. I hate to be such a Debbie Downer, but he won’t live forever. Like all of us. And I won’t tell you about the nightmare I had last night..
  6. Yes, absolutely, high D, not B. Which to my ear makes it even worse. Not an excuse, but I really don’t listen to this recording much. Although I love Phil Cobb’s playing. Thanks for waking up my memory For what it’s worth, the third on the last chord of ESB works great. The 5th on that LSO SW recording, not so much.
  7. I’m ok with the SW Gerhardt’s. Definitely not a fan of the other 2. JW and the LSO have those 2 covered by a large margin in my opinion. I definitely find the playing of the Utah symphony far superior than Skywalker symphony, which is basically a freelance orchestra. Although some tempi are too fast on some cues. Imperial march for one.
  8. I was actually thinking the same earlier today. I don’t dislike the LSO recording, obviously it’s an amazing orchestra and a very good recording. Although I don’t like the high B natural (third of the chord) in the first trumpet part on the last chord of the SW main title. I find it in very poor artistic taste. I only listened to the Dudamel recording once, in my car...but I already find a lot of incredibly nice musical things about it. I can’t wait to listen to it again with my headphones.
  9. Me too. There’s something a little odd about that Skywalker symphony CD.
  10. My first version of this was a cassette tape....I killed it by playing it so much. Great album.
  11. The LA recording with Mehta is also different than the suite.
  12. That suite is no longer available as far as I know. It's been replaced by the Hal Leonard signature edition.
  13. Awesome, thanks. I guess I have to get it now. This version is really nice, I’m hearing so many lines that are sometimes buried. It actually happens on many tracks on this release. On Raiders march, I heard a little snare drum roll that I never heard before, it was awesome. Seems like the brass are somewhat distant, definitely not as “in your face” as the LSO versions, but overall I’m liking the clarity. It’s nice to hear details in percussions and harp that are missed on many other recordings. And I’m a trumpet player...but I can appreciate hearing as many of the notes JW wrote. And there’s no doubt about the sincerity of Dudamel and the orchestra in performing those pieces. I definitely heard that “strange” note in the horn in ET, but I haven’t checked with the score yet. My gut feeling tells me it’s wrong and they left it by mistake. But maybe it’s a revision. Overall I’m really liking this release a lot.
  14. Download the high rez from presto. Thanks for the links. Looks like it won't be finished downloading before I leave for work.
  15. Thanks for the heads up. I'll be ordering those as soon as they're out.
  16. Mark the date...I know I am. On Nov 15 I will finally get to play a full JW score. Our orchestra will be performing HP 1 live. I know it’s not ESB or SW, but hey, for a trumpet player, any JW is better than no JW. Hopefully it sells well and it opens the door to other movies to come here.
  17. Very much enjoyed it Maurizio. As an orchestral trumpet player myself, it was really great information coming from one of the best in the business. Thanks again for putting those podcasts out there.
  18. I actually purchased high res files from HD tracks. I don’t really need physical CDs if I can avoid it.
  19. How can anyone not like this? Yes, obviously based on a JW theme, but the setting is incredible . And the amazing playing of (mostly) the LSO
