  2. Surprisingly good recording quality for an "amateur project", pleasant chord progression. I have definitely enjoyed it! Nice work!
  3. Presonus Eris E5 / Beyerdynamic DT770 250, most of the time the latter. I miss clear and low bass on the speakers, I also suffer from bad placement/room acoustics while listening to the them, but they sound pretty good despite it. Headphones, on the other hand, are phenomenal!
  4. I think your post is a bit shoddy in some places. Performances are over your usual young orchestras average with very few mistakes - and Rey's Theme's rendition is better (despite one too many note from oboe) than at recent Boston Pops Film Night concert under Williams' baton. http://www.jwfan.com/?p=8888 - here is program.
  5. I think it's looped (EDIT: Really nicely looped!) Rey's Theme concert suite from 1:40 to about 2:08. Nice find proving that whoever is in charge of Cannes music has good taste.
  6. That and about 1:40:30 in E.T. - violins and pulsating horns/trombones don't align very well after the "accelerando". It kind of kills the mood for me , because I am used to rather constant tempos of soundtrack recordings. (EDIT: As apparently are players?)
  7. Yeah probably, but for me it sounded like John, after starting out the piece, thought to himself "Oh no! It doesn't sound half as good as I hoped for being played that slow - I will just start waving my baton faster..." and half of the musicians were looking at the score instead of the conductor, resulting in "dispersion" of music for few seconds. I don't mind the faster tempos, I also loved Scherzo and faster parts of Rey's Theme, but - read above please.
  8. It's officialy here: http://www.wgbh.org/programs/The-Boston-Symphony-Orchestra-in-Concert-1641?episode=63461
  9. Very nice concert, surprisingly good recording quality, lovely speeches, positive audience! I liked very much how audible woodwinds were (and brass section "calmer" - but that might have something to do with 16 kHz cutoff of the stream I received) in Force Awakens music selection, especially flutes, compared to CD version. The only nitpicking I am going to do is to point out obvious and pretty hardcore tempo changes in E.T. Flying Theme and Rey's Theme. I have also recorded the whole thing, so if it doesn't show up on the radio's site hit me with PM. zaddini
  10. I can read (very slowly) pitches, but placing them in time is harder. I also don't know most of the symbols (only most "common" ones I guess). I would say I'm between "Yes" and "No", leaning towards "No" - definitely not something I'm proud of.
  11. "In between songs, Williams charmed with commentary (...)" Mmm... Okay!
  12. Nothing in particular - I don't have knowledge about how sound waves actually work and how they can interfere with each other - it's apparently just a stupid thought that formed in my brain that I had to let out. And thanks to letting it out I know it was stupid.
  13. And what about the possibility that the higher frequencies, theoretically unhearable for common man (20kHz up, probably even less for some of us), generated by hi-res files and good headphones/speakers, interfere with hearable spectrum of sound in a way that improves or alters it in some way making us perceive it as "better quality"/"sounding different"? Just thinking out loud...
  14. You have to admit that Potter bit has that "It's over, ladies and gentleman!" quality to it - I would say it's more of a coincidence rather than a nod to similarities (which I also don't hear). But who knows?
  15. Thank you so much, toothless. So far I have listened to Rey's Theme and it sounded great - at the end of the rendition I started to wonder "What is happening?" when the crescendo appeared, and then it morphed into short statement of a theme from Harry Potter - pretty unexpected! I will surely check the rest of the concert.
  16. Do you guys think it is pure coincidence, or is it like that on purpose? Because those two phrases (especially second one) have been bugging me since the first time I have heard Rey's Theme. I also haven't seen it mentioned on the forums earlier, but might have as well missed it. My guess is that Williams is giving us clue about Rey's bloodline here. Am I over-interpreting? rey.mp3
  17. Hello! I have found this video interesting and thought I will post it here. I lack knowledge needed to assess it's accuracy though - I leave that up to you, music theory guys!
  18. Not sure if this has been posted on the forums, but whatever - the more the merrier! :
  19. Oh please elaborate right now. You have time to edit your posts making me look like an idiot writing random stuff after all.
