  1. Just got around to watching Guardians 2. Overall, I was not impressed. Th first half hour and the finale was fun, but everything in between was just ugh... I didn't give a shit about ay of the pirate stuff, or everyone telling everyone's big backstory. When I saw the 5th Avenger shot, I thought I was gonna just switch it off. The humor was probably the strongest part, but even that was ruined in some parts. I noticed that in a lot of places, it was just one joke drawn out over several minutes, and it became unfunny halfay through. THe movie was either too insecure about its humor, or way too proud of those jokes, so they wanted to milk them. I felt the same thing with PotC5's wedding scene. Also, a Youtube Poop scene? Really? We're trying THAT hard to be hip? I was really surprised that the original Guardians theme was kept, and we got many nice variations throughout. Marvel doesn't really do that - in fact, I think the only kept the theme so they can market the Guardians Inferno with Hasselhoff (which, given that Meco's 15 minute Star Wars is one of my all time favourite musical compositions, I really enjoy). I'm really glad we finally have a universe where a planet being the main character's father is just accepted. More of this kind of amusingly insane shit and less than 50 minutes of backstory moping, please!
  2. Double penetration got a whole new meaning! Just like the Devastator chasing the poor unwilling little Tantive IV.
  3. And I see you uploaded another 5.000 cues today!
  4. I just got around to playing Life is Strange and it's possibly the best narrative experience in a video game (apart from a few parts of Episode 5) I've ever come across.
  5. I just remembered he also collected all the Gondorian lazy bastards who didn't go with Imrahil to Minas Tirith, so it was a relatively significant force. The fifth book is where it all falls apart for me.
  6. I guess it's fine when they're in the caves, all the green light is really otherworldy, and it's consistent with the Dead Marshes, but yeah, they're just a horrible blob of mess at Pelennor. PJ hated them, by the way, he thought they don't make sense and it's a bit cheap. Still, he made them win the pelennor, because it's more believable onscreen than 30 good fighters and 2 elves turning the tide of a battle between 100K and elephants vs. 10K.
  7. The Walkers must have spent all this time looking for their big weapon: Wight-Were-Worms to chew through the Wall!
  8. On illustrations, yes, but once you start animating them, it's virtually impossible to get right. It's complete nonsense biologically, there's no real life reference to use, you'd have to spend months of research and trial and error to make it look right, you'd have to basically rewrite biology. This was not a problem in the Harryhausen Stop-Motion era (or the Golden Age) because those effects tried to convince you that wat you saw wasn't real, it's a nonexistant creature played by an expensive and incredibly well-animated toy. But modern CG tries go out of its way to convince you that everything you see on screen is real, so it has to be at least semirealistic.
  9. I think that's because of major script and character differences. Smaug needed to be a character and a fairly major villain, who can do conversation scenes believably. So his design went mostly that way in 2013, that's what he's strong at - big, expressive face, exaggerated movement adapted from Benedict's mocap - and that's what they were stuck with for the battle scene. Dany's dragons just needed to be pets, and now, giant killing machines. They've been developing them since 2010/11, they've had plenty of time to figure out the perfect biology and physics of it all, what works, what doesn't.
  10. I know this would be a cop-out, but could they really kill him? He's half-wight or something anyway, maybe they just ganged up on him to stop him, then sent him to the group therapist Jerry for re-conditioning.
  11. Yes, very interesting! If only we had a version with actual mastering so we could hear it at all...
  12. I think Lucasfilm-Disney have to be given credit for listening to the fans and trying to please them, but so far they've been listening to the most hardcore purist toxic loud minority, so everything's too much like the OT. I think they didn't dare put in political speeches and explanations because that was a major complaint about the prequels, and they're trying to distance themselves from those as much as possible. Thus, we have no idea about anything from the movie alone, which is a bigger problem than a handful of whiny fanboys who fall asleep when somebody's talking for more than 5 seconds.
  13. Don't know how obscure it is, but judging by the Obi-Wan thread the other day, not everyone knows this: Qui-Gon's motif.
  14. I thought Desplat was out because the pickups took longer than expected and he couldn't fit it into his schedule anymore. Anyway, I'm mostly waiting for the moment when the SW finally has the balls to move far away from the established movie universe. Bring the KotOR storyline back, for example, it's 3600 years ago, it won't interfere with their new canon! Or even go back into Dawn of the Jedi territory after we probably learn a lot about it in TLJ - maybe from the Journal of the Whills!
  15. OK, what would we want/expect from an Obi-Wan movie? The obvious choice would be Tatooine adventures, but I always had multiple problems with that. First, the location is beaten to death. Second, Obi-Wan was never really a model Jedi. The failure of Anakin could partially be accredited to his mastering skills (having taken him up when he just got out of Padawanship, under Qui-Gon, no less), and I think he only becomes great when when he learns humility, gives everything up and dedicates 20 years to a greater cause than him, becomes a hermit, learns about the deeper secrets of the Force and looks over Luke, of course. Having him get away from that to chase old bounty hunters from Clone Wars, probably, would cheapen his character for me. But then, what else is there? A young Obi-Wan movie would not really work - Ewan looks great, but not THAT young - and any other time he was with Anakin, and I think no person in their right mind at Disney or Lucasfilm would get Hayden after the huge internet hatewave, neither would they cast anyone else as Obi-Wan.
  16. I believe that first Walker IS the Night King, that's why he played him in the flashback.
  17. Am I the only one with self-control here?
  18. Oh, right, this topic is supposed to be about GoT Back to I'm Dreaming of a Wight Christmas, then!
  19. The whole root of the problem is with the different mains frequency (60/50), which spawned the original NTSC/PAL. When digital broadcasting came about, one of the regions would have had to change to the other (huge fight which one is better), and there every broadcaster would have had to get all new equipment, and everyone on the entire continent who still had an older TV could just throw it in the garbage because it could no longer intercept any signal. It would have been a huge financial and logistical undertaking, not to mention the basics of figuring out how to run a common format on different electrical systems, so the US evolved NTSC into ATSC and PAL evolved into DVB, and we still lazily just speed/pitch up the video we get from overseas. Bluray doesn't have this because it's just a disc which plays a video file, it has nothing to do with broadcasting. It only has that retarded region locking because big bad corporations and evil lawyers.
  20. Oh, this guy is a huge meme and national treasure: Obviously, it's much more hilarious if you understand what he's saying (translations are probably based on the dialogue being transcribed by ear), but you can still hear how he stumbles on lines, has no emphasis or emotion, slurs the two characters together... Sad thing is, we didn't get a proper Jedi dub till '93 (guess the new Laserdisc master was distributed widely to up the buzz before the SE) and even then... when you thought the NOOO couldn't get any worse! (Nobody cares, but this clip has nothing to do with the 93 dub, it's the 97 SE dub updated (maybe redone) for the bluray version)
  21. Botched PAL conversion? Now imagine living in a country where EVERYTHING on TV is dubbed, and even in the cinema, you only get a choice for a very select few movies... here, Dunkirk, Spider-Man HC, Wonder Woman, Baby Driver, Planet of the Apes - basically every big and interesting movie this summer - was only shown dubbed. Oh, but we could watch Transformers and the fucking Emoji movie subbed!
  22. Right, but if somebody has done this for you, that suddenly becomes the only acceptable way to listen to it.
  23. For anyone who might be interested: Adywan's Empire Revisited will finally be released today at 6PM GMT after 9 years of work!
  24. You guys don't get it, if we line up the 3 threads and hold them towards the sun, they will spell out the IP address for the Azkaban sessions!
