  1. These 4 performances sold out, so they've added 3 more for 7 in total - crazy!
  2. The Vienna concert is available in the Stage+ archive now: https://www.stage-plus.com/video/vod_concert_APNM8GRFDPHMASJKBSPJ6CO
  3. Following up my own post, he's been conducting John Williams pieces since at least 2003 - previous recordings include the Star Wars Film Spectacular and John Williams Film Spectacular (both from the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra). He did an interview about the album here (Google Translate). The interviewer seems to think so.
  4. Keitaro Harada is conducting the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra performing A New Hope in September: https://www.promax.co.jp/archives/event/202311272 The Osaka performance is on 2023-09-24 at 16:00. There will be 2 performances in Tokyo on 2023-09-30 at 14:00 and 18:30. In fact, there are quite a lot of Star Wars LTP concerts scheduled for the next year: https://www.moviesinconcert.nl/index.php?page=concertlist Currently: A New Hope: 31 The Empire Strikes Back: 15 Return of the Jedi: 36 The Force Awakens: 25 The Last Jedi: 7
  5. I was (unsuccessfully) trying to find details on the upcoming Tokyo concert and noticed this album was released a couple of days ago. I haven't listened enough yet to comment on the performances, but the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra is top-tier, and Taizo Takemoto is a well-known conductor. English tracklist: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Children's Suite For Orchestra: Hedwig's Flight Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Children's Suite For Orchestra: Howarts Forever Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Children's Suite For Orchestra: Voldemort Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Children's Suite For Orchestra: Nimbus 2000 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Children's Suite For Orchestra: Fluffy's Harp Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Children's Suite For Orchestra: Quidditch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Children's Suite For Orchestra: Family Portrait Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Children's Suite For Orchestra: Diagon Alley Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Children's Suite For Orchestra: Harry's Wondrous World Saving Private Ryan Hymn to the Fallen Schindler's List Theme (Cello Version) Schindler's List Jewish Town Star Wars: The Last Jedi The Rebellion Is Reborn Star Wars: The Phantom Menace The Flag Parade Star Wars: The Phantom Menace The Adventures of Jar Jar Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Duel of the Fates
  6. I thought I'd start a thread for upcoming concerts featuring John Williams' music as part of a wider programme. The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is performing the Classic 100 in Concert next Thursday (2023-06-22) and Friday (2023-06-23). This is a collaboration with ABC Classic, which runs an annual survey of their listeners - this year's topic was 'Your Favourite Instrument'. The concert features some of the top-voted instruments and will include John Williams' Theme from Schindler's List (violin) and Olympic Fanfare and Theme (brass). Classic 100 in Concert Presented with ABC TV, ABC iview and ABC Classic Dates Thursday 22 June 2023, 7:30pm at Hamer Hall Friday 23 June 2023, 7:30pm at Hamer Hall Featuring Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Benjamin Northey conductor and creative director Andrea Lam piano Michael Pisani oboe Slava Grigoryan guitar Mindy Meng Wang guzheng Eliza Shephard flute Emily Sun violin Richard Narroway cello Jess Hitchcock soprano Chris Williams didgeridoo Program includes excerpts from Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (piano) Tchaikovsky Swan Lake Suite (oboe) Nigel Westlake Antarctica Suite: II. 7. This doesn't bode well for the Deutsche Grammophon concert in Tokyo, assuming it will also use a lottery system.
  8. Is there any indication of whether Desplat's score was already recorded (or even written)? Filming wrapped in July last year (before the reshoots last month). Maybe we'll get a bootleg.
  9. Shipping costs to Australia for anyone who cares (prices in USD): Screen Archives: $16 (with a big red warning that lost or stolen packages won't be replaced, or $48 for tracked express shipping) The MovieMusic Store: $18 Intrada: $20 La-La Land Records: $21.80 The terrible exchange rate is making this an even more expensive hobby than usual, but at least this time the shipping only costs about half of the actual product.
  10. It's a bit odd, since the other concerts have an e-ticket option. That said, there are 7-Eleven stores on just about every street corner in metro areas, and you can pick the tickets up right up until the day of the concert. The English page describing the lottery system has been fixed.
  11. The website lists 7-Eleven as the collection point. Cool - Chamber Concert II on 2023-08-29 will feature a 'John Williams Special Selection' performed by the SKO Brass Ensemble, too.
  12. The street address shouldn't matter for an online application/purchase. As @pete notes, the problem will be in paying for the tickets if you don't have a Japanese credit card (though the OMF might surprise us and allow foreign-issued cards) and can't visit the country in early June to pay in-person.
  13. Good on Rambling Records - Coupez ! was a remake of a Japanese movie (confusingly named the same thing in Japanese), so there's a bit of a connection there, but Eiffel seems to be entirely French, so this is a bit of a surprise (though welcome). I guess the Japanese do like Paris.
  14. As a potential extra hurdle, a lot of Japanese websites don't accept foreign-issued credit cards. The OMF website doesn't specify whether this is the case here, and you can pay in-person at 7-Eleven between 2023-05-31 and 2023-06-10 if you're in the country at that time. The raffle/lottery is for whether you're able to buy a ticket for the Orchestra Concert Program B on 2023-09-02 in Matsumoto - you won't end up with Program A (2023-08-25, 2023-08-27) tickets. Ticket information for the Deutsche Grammophon concert in Tokyo hasn't been released yet. Unfortunately it will probably be another lottery given how in-demand seats will be.
  15. Great episode - fascinating to hear about the engineering side of film scoring.
  16. I finally got around to watching the movie and must say I didn't expect so much source music from classic films. I understand why they did it like that, but selfishly I wish Williams had been able to compose some fanfares in the style of the period (yes, I'm thinking of 'Suite from “Angels with Filthy Souls II”' from Home Alone 2).
  17. Great to hear there will be a Tokyo concert - much simpler to get there (but maybe harder to score a ticket to the event).
  18. Probably. Honestly, $40 per adult is pushing it for a youth orchestra, and the $4 to $8.50 transaction fee is annoying, but I don't think I can pass up the rare chance to hear this music live. They've got me over a barrel
  19. The Melbourne Youth Orchestra is performing a piece titled 'Star Wars Symphony: 9 movies in 9 movements' in August this year. I believe it's arranged by the conductor, Brett Kelly. I'm curious what themes he's chosen from the prequel and sequel trilogies. Concert details: Star Wars Inspiration William Walton Crown Imperial March Anne Cawrse And there was Light Richard Strauss Horn Concerto No.1 in Eb, Op.11 (15’) John Williams Star Wars Symphony: 9 movies in 9 movements Sunday 20 August 2023 5.30pm Elisabeth Murdoch Hall Duration: 2 hours (incl. interval)
  20. Fascinating - Matsumoto is (comparatively) in the middle of nowhere, and it might be a bit sweaty in September. It would be a shame if this is the only concert he does while he's in the country. All the same, I'll be there if I can score tickets.
  21. I keep waiting for Darren Aronofsky to make the obvious decision to re-hire Clint Mansell. I likewise hope that Sam Mendes not working with Thomas Newman on Empire of Light was a one-off.
  22. Anne-Sophie Mutter seems to be doing a world tour of this concerto - she's headed to Sydney in November. https://www.sydneysymphony.com/concerts/anne-sophie-mutter-music-of-john-williams Anne-Sophie Mutter & the Music of John Williams Program Herrmann Vertigo: Suite John Williams Violin Concerto No.2 Rota The Leopard: Suite Westlake Flying Dreams John Williams Hedwig’s Theme John Williams The Long Goodbye: Theme Artists Simone Young conductor Anne-Sophie Mutter violin
  23. The MSO is following this up with 4 performances of the Empire Strikes Back in October this year.
