  1. Just over half the score is unreleased. (I have a film rip which runs under 62 minutes, while the original album's score portion runs under 30.) That said, I can honestly tell you as a huge Poledouris fan: the unreleased music is nothing to write home about. Practically every highlight is on the original album, and the unreleased stuff, although there are a few nice bits, is mostly not of great interest (most isn't orchestral, but is slight variations on the dated synthy friendship material). This is a rare Poledouris score that to me would not play stronger in complete form, even if I'd certainly buy an expansion and there might be a few more cues I'd add in to my playlist. Now... I *also* have a complete film rip of the Poledouris score for Free Willy 2...it runs almost 65 minutes. And every note of it is fantastic. It takes the themes of the original score and builds on them with interesting new developments. It introduces a few new themes and integrates and develops them perfectly with the older material. It is sweeping, epic orchestral ocean-y music, with some neat new organic elements like acoustic guitar and less of a synthy feel. Seriously, every cue is wonderful and all that's been released of this amazing score is a paltry 10.5 minutes (three cues) on the original soundtrack album. The Free Willy scores on either side of it have had almost 3x as much music released, but this is the best of the three scores hands down! So that's what you should be pining after, trust me. If it ever comes out people will be blown away. IMO it's the most important Poledouris, expansion or premiere, that could be released at this point. Yavar

  4. Glad to hear it's already made a good impression, since I know many people find it fairly rough going at first. (Personally I think it had a much stronger first season than, say, Star Trek: The Next Generation... and Babylon 5 season 1 only improves on a rewatch once you can notice all the ground being laid for the later story.) Anyhow, I'm a fan. In fact, I think it's still my favorite TV show of all time, despite all its flaws (most of the first half of the final season in particular). There are multiple other shows I regard as less flawed/more perfect, but this has been my favorite ever since I first saw it, and I think it always will be. I assume you're watching the new remasters on HBOMax? The Special Edition is an improvement in almost every way, though the original cut is still an interesting curiosity with the non-Christopher Franke score and all... also, the Special Edition does add a spoiler because it was essentially released for fans after the first four seasons of the show (so it wasn't a spoiler at that point). It's blink-and-you'll-miss-it though, so luckily it sounds like you probably missed it. Yeah, this situation is kinda infamous and led to a lot of strife between Babylon 5 and Trek fandom in the 90s (despite there being a lot of cross-pollination of talent both onscreen and off!) The short version is that a few years before DS9 and B5 began (he had been working on it since the late 80s), J. Michael Straczynski pitched his concept for Babylon 5 to Paramount executives... aaaand they essentially stole his basic idea for the show, and slapped "Star Trek" on it since that was their already successful franchise. Now the DS9 showrunners themselves probably knew little or nothing about this, and they freely did their own thing with the basic premise. But there continue to be some shocking apparent lifts that unfortunately continue throughout, like them introducing the Kasidy Yates character several seasons in...even though Babylon 5 had a similar character introduced early in its first season. Then you rightly observe a similarity between the Cardassian/Bajoran and Centauri/Narn situations. There are some other weird coincidences too throughout, but ultimately the shows are fairly different in both style and content, and I'm personally quite happy they both exist. I think fairly soon you'll be able to start seeing Londo as his own character, and the Centauri as their own race, rather than Quark/Ferengi-like. I'm so glad to hear you already love it; each season only gets better (until the final season, for reasons I can go into if you're interested) so just you wait! The music comes off as very dated at first IMO, but each season's scoring gets better and better from Christopher Franke IMO (*including* the final season, which has some of his best work). There are some absolutely incredible scoring moments from seasons 3-5 (and particularly the wonderful first TV movie, In the Beginning). I'll be curious whether any scoring stands out to you as particularly strong from the first season or two. There are a few moments I have in mind which might qualify. Oh you're in for a treat; that's one of the coolest reveals in the show! Yavar
  5. Or simply a second disc featuring the original album program. So far I don't think anyone has suggested a score that was rejected before being recorded (i.e. Goldsmith's rejected scores for Babe or Disney's The Kid). Yavar

  8. Let's not rule out a variation of this, let's call it "Scenario 2a", for when different scores were written for different territories (neither really "rejected"). Everyone knows about the two Legends by Goldsmith and Tangerine Dream, but there's also the Goldsmith/John Scott scores for SPYS (obviously unlikely since LLL recently premiered the complete Goldsmith just last year, and it's still in print), plus Conti/Serra on The Big Blue or Conti/Scott on A Prayer for the Dying... go to the Golden Age and there are LOTS of examples of Italian films scored by Italian composers in Italy, but given scores by other composers outside of Italy.   9. Bernstein scored BOTH unrelated (aside from the title; these were not remakes) films, just like Jerry Goldsmith scored the 1975 BABE *and* the 1995 BABE (well, 85% of the latter anyway).   11. No, I think it can also mean Intrada is putting out two NEW separate albums of music for the same film, soon. Roger didn't say anything about whether either composer's work was previously released. But I still think Journey of Natty Gann is a good guess! It could also be another rejected Bernstein score though, which hasn't yet been released: How about Rat Race, paired with an expansion of the John Powell score? Or how about A River Runs Through It, paired with an expansion of the Mark Isham score? All that's "out there" of the Bernstein score on this is his main theme, performed live at USC years back (I was there in person), conducted by his son Peter: I'd certainly be in for either... and I think there are more totally unreleased rejected Bernstein scores besides those two!   12. No rejected score to my knowledge, and therefore also no way it would get to 3 CDs. But would love Intrada to expand that sometime! How about an expansion of a DIFFERENT (Disney-controlled) Hollywood Records album? I'm thinking LES MISERABLES, my favorite Basil Poledouris score, spread over 2CDs (maybe the original four-suite album included on disc 2)? And then the 1CD would be for the rejected Gabriel Yared score for the same film! Yavar
  13. That's how I interpreted it too. (I'm not sure whether this is the original recording, which was released as a DVD extra over the main titles, or whether someone took Mancini's later re-recording of the MT and put it over the film...) Yavar

  16. I don't. Honestly I rarely listen to Air Force One. It's one of my least favorite types of Goldsmith score (all surface level action). The Hijacking is a good cue to be sure but there's plenty others I'd rather listen to, most of the time... Yavar

  19. Yeah, it's just frustrating because I don't want all the non-disc bells-and-whistles, and I'd prefer a normal size box that sits on my shelf with the rest. But I want that SLV because as you say it WAS the movie, when I became a Star Trek fan! There actually was a laserdisc release of the SLV back in the 80s, but it too was fullscreen, not widescreen. Here's a fan-made video from five years ago, basically demonstrating the problem and executing a fix, which will probably now be largely duplicated by Paramount: 45 seconds in you can see what the full screen video looked like. I think it's pretty glaring even in full screen VHS, but imagine how much more unacceptable that would be included in a new widescreen Special Longer Version. Yavar
  20. All previous releases of the SLV were fullscreen, not the original widescreen aspect ratio. Since this is its premiere release in widescreen, that shot would have been REALLY unacceptable, vs. just marginally acceptable in unfinished form, on TV. Yavar
