  1. Seems like a good way to recap the events for people who miss out and help build a little additional hype for games. For some reason, the Game Awards are fun to watch (if only for how cringey they can sometimes be) so I expect the same kind of thing to occur with this. Plus, it'll give those that just like to complain more to complain about after E3 ends
  2. Bloomberg (that same reporter actually) has been reporting this for months, so either there is going to be one or someone has been having fun for quite some time. An updated model to allow for higher end games while still maintaining the very popular Switch brand seems like a no brainer, but Nintendo doesn't always make those seemingly easy decisions. Whether true or false, it seems we'll know for sure in a couple of weeks.
  3. Personally, I'm fine with a show based off the Moneypenny Diaries novels or even a show starring Nomi or some other OO. I really don't see how the world is sacred: we used to get video games all the time as well as merch and even tv specials featuring characters from the films presenting clips and having their own adventures. I feel this idea that Bond is something sacred that needs to only be seen in small doses forget that until Craig, Bond was a semi-annual movie and not something that needed to be "protected." Hell, a show even set in the 1950s adapting the novels more closely to how they were written would even be fine with me, though I don't know about having two live action Bonds at once. The radio adaptations a few years ago were great and many fans are clamoring for more Bond in this era. It wouldn't be my immediate preference but it would appease those fans while letting the movies stick to modern times without fans constantly wanting a return to the 1960s.
  4. It'll be interesting if Amazon attempts to buyout EON and take full control of the franchise or just leave things as they are. In the current format, EON basically has control of everything from creative to release plans, with MGM just handling funding and advertising. Now if the films keep making a billion at the box office I can't imagine they'd complain, but I imagine Amazon wants to get more out of the franchise than a film every few years. Hopefully EON will "play ball" and let Amazon make a show set in the universe or something to placate them and maintain control, as I'd much rather EON remain in control of the series at this point, though perhaps its a perfect time for the Broccolis to bow out and let new minds take a swing.
  5. I think BOTW was such a huge (and honestly surprising) hit that Nintendo became a little more protective of the franchise. As a result, they've limited the game output in hopes of focusing on quality over quantity. The surprising Age of Calamity was probably only done due to its connection to BOTW and an opportunity to explore that "world" in a little more detail. I'd love another 2D game in the vein of ALBW, but the randomizer for ALTTP keeps me plenty busy and scratches the 2D Zelda game for me at this time.
  6. Broadway and other theatrical centers have been restaging and updating/adapting previous works for centuries. The only difference is that film is an everlasting performance rather than a one-time show done for an audience. I really would rather see a video game movie or something different done with a pre-existing property than another retread of Shakespeare, Bronte, etc.
  7. Here's my review of the Franchise (some of these will probably be controversial) Alien Saw this for the first time at age 20, by this point I had enough sense to know what is and what isn't a good film. Unfortunately, I just didn't really love it, I wish I did, and based on my film interests and everything about it I should love the film, but I really don't for whatever reason. I think there are some amazing scenes, but as a whole it just doesn't come together and I have yet to rewatch it in full in about 5 years (I've seen it at least 3 times in full as well as bits and pieces from tv airings). I think this movie may not be for me, though I definitely applaud its technical achievements and the performances. Aliens I'm generally a Cameron guy and his first real big film after The Terminator definitely didn't disappoint me. The idea of the Colonial Marines works really well for me, and the characters are all larger than life in all the right ways. Ripley's relationship with Newt and the parallels of the relationship with her own daughter are great and add a tremendous amount of weight to what essentially comes down to a sci-fi action movie. The movie builds on tension so well, that you really feel Ripley's despair and anger by the end. Great movie, and unfortunately a level that would not be reached again in the franchise. Alien 3 Saw this for the first time at a friends house and moderately enjoyed it for what it was, especially the end even if the SFX were not quite up to par for Fincher's ideals. After watching it again on my own, I really found it boring and I think the communal experience over beers was a much preferable method to enjoying this film. I will check out Fincher's assembly cut this Summer as I got the Alien boxset recently but haven't had a chance to watch anything yet. Hopefully it will be a better rounded experience though I'm already coming in with low expectations. Alien Resurrection Some baffling creative decisions really plague this film. The biggest compliment I can give it is that it doesn't necessarily feel like a big Hollywood picture. That being said, the film itself just goes too far into the absurd and strange for me, with some really unlikeable characters and subpar performances from actors who are among my favorites. Ripley really dragged this film down as your story felt complete and this feels like an unnecessary addition from a franchise afraid to move on and find a new protagonist. Alien vs. Predator The film is schlocky and stupid, and usually in all the wrong ways. There are some good ideas scattered throughout this film, but none of them really work and Paul W.S. Anderson really didn't make a good film. I was hoping more for the Anderson that made Event Horizon, not the one that made Resident Evil. This one was an easy single viewing experience. Alien vs. Predator: Requiem Watched five minutes on tv once and knew I had no intention on watching anymore. Prometheus I appreciate and like a lot of what Scott was trying to do with the film, though I think it rarely works. I think the cast is well put together, but none are really given enough to do or given logical actions at times. I definitely don't hate the film, but I think its definitely a case of missed opportunities. Guy Pearce in old man makeup is the biggest head scratcher for me, as I think he could have done well as Elizabeth's partner rather than playing an old man without much to do. I veteran actor who surprisingly shows up at that point really could have added more to the film and its never believable to me that I'm watching anything but an actor in old age makeup. Overall I enoyed it and was looking forward to the direction the next film would go and what it would explore. As mentioned, I liked the main musical theme quite a bit and thought it had this lovely quality about it. The fanedit Prometheus: Giftbearer was a nice version of the movie and one I recommend to people that want to revisit the film. Alien: Covenant Killing off Naomi Rapace's character between movies is a bigger travesty that killing off Hicks or Newt to me. She was a very interesting character and I would have liked to seen more with her and seen her maybe take a much darker turn in the sequel. Instead we get a whole new crew along with a female lead in Katherine Waterson who is really nothing more than a Ripley stand-in to me. Too bad the studio/Scott killed off Blomkomp's proposed idea, as the artwork and ideas seemed really interested and some fresh ideas for a franchise that had been languishing for a while in my opinion. The film itself is fine but incredibly forgettable. The David twist at the end is incredibly obvious and telegraphed and the film itself does nothing really of interest for me to intend to revisit it anytime soon. Hopefully Disney can do something interesting with the franchise and I look forward to the upcoming show.
  8. Yeah, a lot of the early Big Finish stuff can be listened to on Spotify. McGann has done many audios, but for a starter, I'd recommend the Eighth Doctor Adventures, which are basically his "seasons" complete with returning characters and season long plots.
  9. It was set up in season 2 of Mandalorian when she is approached by the New Republic pilot, so I think its safe to assume that was supposed to be a staring vehicle for her.
  10. Ok, I'll bite. Will try not to repeat composers more than once. 1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (John Barry) 2. Back to the Future (Alan Silvestri) 3. Batman Returns (Danny Elfman) 4. Stargate (David Arnold) 5. Star Trek: First Contact (Jerry Goldsmith) 6. Aladdin (Alan Menken) 7. Robocop (Basil Poledouris) 8. Major League (James Newton Howard) 9. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Howard Shore) 10. Forrest Gump (Alan Silvestri) 11. Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan (James Horner) 12. The Mummy (Jerry Goldsmith) 13. Tomorrow Never Dies (David Arnold) 14. Diamonds Are Forever (John Barry) 15. Inception (Hans Zimmer) 16. Die Hard (Michael Kamen) 17. The Shadow (Jerry Goldsmith) 18. X2 (John Ottman) 19. The Goonies (Dave Grusin) 20. The Dark Knight (Zimmer & Newton Howard)
  11. Yeah, I imagine she was given plenty of warnings as the comments were escalating over a period of months. All she had to do is delete her social media and keep her opinions between herself and her personal acquaintances. She threw away millions, and probably her career, for absolutely nothing.
  12. The half-human thing was a leftover from the original script, which essentially served as a reboot. The Doctor was going to be half-human and searching for his Time Lord father named Ulysses. Eventually they nixed the reboot idea, but I think starting with the seventh Doctor was a mistake. Moffat sort of addressed the half-human thing with the "hybrid" arc in Season 9, but honestly it really didn't confirm or deny anything IMO and seemed rather pointless in the end (especially with the Timeless Child revelation in Season 12). It should have started with 7 being rolled into the ER rather than the extended opening with a bunch of lore and backstory that could have been told in story rather than an info dump to start the story. McGann was terrific in the role, and if he had been given more time and more to do, perhaps we would have seen more of him.
  13. Nah, there's some good parts in it for sure but OHMSS is a masterpiece.
  14. They haven't said whether this is a continuation of B:TAS at this time. Considering that would be a major selling point, I'm assuming this is more of a spiritual successor rather than a full blown continuation. They have been doing comics recently titled Batman: The Adventures Continue which directly follow B:TAS if you're interested in that storyline, but I imagine this will try to do its own thing while invoking some of that earlier style that made B:TAS so great and endearing still 30 years later.
  15. McGann's work on the audio stories with Big Finish are generally very good, especially his 4 series of the Eighth Doctor Adventures along with Sheridan Smith as his companion Lucy Miller. Hopefully the BBC will give him something to do during the 2023 anniversary year, as his brief appearance in Night of the Doctor showed just how good he can be as the Doctor even with the briefest of time.
  16. My favorite performance of his is definitely in Clifford. Much like Richard Dreyfuss in What About Bob?, Grodin does a great job of showing a man going insane on screen and even as an adult I still find the movie funny. Too bad he basically retired in the mid 90s from acting as he was always a treat to watch, even in a movie like Dave he added an interesting layer to a relatively boring character.
  17. My Top 10 (limited to one per franchise) 1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - John Barry 2. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - John Williams 3. Batman Returns - Danny Elfman 4. Return of the Jedi - John Williams 5. Back to the Future - Alan Silvestri 6. Star Trek: First Contact - Jerry Goldsmith 7. Aladdin - Alan Menken 8. Robocop - Basil Poledouris 9. Major League - James Newton Howard 10. Stargate - David Arnold
  18. Its a great alien invasion movie with a group of British youths lead by Boyega as the heroes. Great movie with good action and humor. Also features current Doctor Who Jodie Whittaker in an early role as one of the leads. Definitely a great movie and I'm glad Cornish is revisiting the film.
  19. It would appear Amazon are going to indeed get MGM, so as both a Bond fan and a Stargate fan I'm happy. Hopefully we can now have a permanent streaming home for the franchise rather than the near monthly shifts they seem to be doing at this point. Also, we know Bezos likes science-fiction and the SG1 creators are trying to get a new show off the ground, so hopefully Amazon sees the void that the Expanse will be leaving when it ends next year and picks up a new Stargate show.
  20. Paramount movies are going to pop up on Paramount+ 45 days after release for the foreseeable future so if you have that service you'll be able to watch the movie for no additional cost. I hated watched the first two so I doubt I'll be making it to theaters myself but will probably watch it once it hits streaming.
  21. Yep, playing OOT and Majora's Mask with some of the fan made texture packs is a great experience and makes it hard to go back to the originals. As someone who didn't like the 3DS changes made to the remakes, playing the Gamecube versions with texture packs is the happy medium of updated graphics mixed with the classic gameplay of those games.
  22. I appreciate the fact that WB has tended to lean more adult themed with their movies, especially with how family friendly the MARVEL films have become. The films don't always hit the right note, but more often than not I enjoy them and the varying stories they try to tell. I just wish someone like Walter Hamada was incharge prior to BvS if only to reign in Snyder to help avoid the negative backlash that film gave the entire franchise seemingly with the general public.
  23. I was using Scratch with my students just the other day, and definitely made the connection with the video. Its a good tool to get people to get the very basic ideas of coding and how to give the computer commands to implement.
  24. I'd imagine they moved it due to The Bad Batch and wanting to spread out their shows rather than have them all dump on the same day. With the show airing during the summer, Wednesdays are probably a better night to attract the family audience they want with Loki rather than Fridays when people are going out and doing things.
  25. Nah, he was just playing Alan Quartermaine. Yes, he was surrounded by supernatural characters but he was just an old guy adventurer, the same as Indy. I think people overestimate what people are willing to suspend their disbelief for. Yes, Ford is nearly 80 but the most popular films currently include talking trees, purple Spacemen bent on world destruction, and people with other superhuman powers. If the script is good and the film is well done, people won't pick on Ford for his age. If the film is crap like Crystal Skull was, well, then we'll get the same type of response.
