TROS is unfortunately let down by both an OST with too many missing highlights (Falcon Flight, Rey Trains, Advice, Parents, etc.) and a pretty lackluster film presentation, microedited, tracked to death, and frequently buried under sound effects. But it’s actually my favorite of the three, even though TFA is my favorite OST and TLJ is my favorite in the film. Just bring on all three in complete form!
  3. Plus, Nixon was released on a Disney-affiliated label, so it’s likely to come from Intrada (as is The Patriot). Those three scores would pair together nicely, though, especially since a cue from Born on the Fourth of July was tracked into JFK!

  6. Can’t help you there, but looks like there’s at least one album arrangement. One of these appears to be entitled “Mom’s Dance”, with no slate, like a film cue would usually have: Also, I can make out a “v2 Alt End” and a “v3” in the slates of the other titles, so even if it’s a short score, there were definitely some alternates composed.

  8. Right. There’s a lot of tracking in this sequence: there’s also some bits taken from 2M12 Poe Under Torture and 6M56B R v1 (New Ending) Kylo’s Rage, possibly more, as well as some of the intended 4M38A R Rey’s Dream.
  9. It’s mixed simultaneously with a different cue, but there’s a few repeated timpani notes from 5M45R Alt audible at one point, when the Knights of Ren are shown onscreen.
  10. There’s a tiny bit of 5M45R Alt that’s actually in the film, tracked during Rey’s vision. GEMA lists it as “Finn Fight Alt”.
  11. The perfect slot for The Adventures of Tintin! Which would be a fantastic expansion, by the way, if the post-2005 reuse fee issue can be sorted out.

Never mind, @Jay pointed this out Friday and I overlooked it.   18. No way to know for certain, but probably 6M58 because it dates to 5/1/15. Most fixed cues are done shortly after the original, so the original 6M56C is likely from late May or early June.
  19. Hmm, David Arnold didn’t get as far as recording anything for The Patriot, did he? JW’s score would definitely require 2 CDs.
  20. Thanks so much for this! I appreciate all the effort you’re spending sorting out the very complicated evolution of this film and score. Shame this was very likely not recorded: I love that very prequel-y fanfare at the end! Worth pointing out this cue introduces the mixed-meter motif that would later be used for Ice Landing.
  21. I think an Angela’s Ashes expansion would be especially valuable in the U.S., because the version of the album released here contained narration in most tracks. There also appears to be a decent smattering of alternates and cues in the film but not on the original soundtrack. Honestly, and maybe my case is extreme, but I’d buy a Matessino-produced expansion of a JW score that didn’t even have any new music to feature (though I’m not actually aware of one), just for the thoughtful liner notes, and in many cases, stunning art from Jim Titus. Matessino, Jeff Bond, and Doug Fake (did I forget anyone?) have essentially been writing an insightful JW biography in many parts, spread over these expansions.

Their great-sounding release of Williams’ score for Robert Altman’s Images is also in stock: https://quartetrecords.com/product/images/ It’s essentially the soundtrack album that should have been released in 1972, but never was. (It was circulated only as an Academy promo, which paid off with a nomination for best original score).
  23. I think those do tend to be the bigger sellers. Quartet seems to be carving out a niche with outstanding releases of some of JW’s (plus Goldsmith and others’) earlier scores, like Images and The Long Goodbye. I think they’re the label most likely to tackle Story of a Woman or Cinderella Liberty at this point. I wonder if Varese might do a Deluxe Edition of The Reivers, seeing as they did release that OST on CD at one point. That would certainly be the perfect companion to The Cowboys as the other score that caught Spielberg’s attention to hire Williams for The Sugarland Express. And hopefully JW’s objections can be overcome at sometime soon to get that score a premiere release…
  24. Two of the alternates from Far and Away come to mind: the alternate openings of ‘The Big Match’ and ‘Oklahoma Territory’ are both spectacular in my book! (And quite different.) I’m also very fond of the alternate ‘Car Drives Off’ from Chamber of Secrets. And the alternate ‘Love Scene’ from Dracula is just magnificent…
