  1. Spielberg has an old-fashioned view about how to market and promote his films. And that's a great thing, imho. Just read waht he says on the subject matter in that EW.com interview I posted a few days ago:
  2. Upcoming Film Scores blog confirms that composer Kevin Kiner will write the score to STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS animated movie.
  3. This is a very good score! I love how Giacchino gave a kind of 60's sound on steroids. I was expecting something along the lines of Alias (orchestra and synth over a contemporary rhythmic track) and instead he produced a completely acoustic and retro-feel score. This is like The Incredibles without the Barry homages. Go Go Giacchino!
  4. Check this interesting interview with Spielberg & Lucas over at EW.com, in which Spielberg talks also about the whole affair of spoiling the movie experience through the internet. Old-school way of thinking, sure, but it's refreshing to hear such words from him.
  5. Generally, a standard reel is 12-13 minutes, so I guess it's still likely the movie will be 120-130 minutes
  6. This is a very clever and brilliant arrangement. I particularly like how JW had fun with the harmonization. Trivia: the Hal Leonard recording was played (sans bleeps) during the pre-concert talk in Chicago last November.
  7. HERE you can find the cover art and the tracklist of LOST - Season 3. Yay! Giacchino always comes up with the funniest track titles ever
  8. Thanks for the reports, David and John! I'm happy you were able to meet and greet with the Maestro this time. Enjoy the concert and keep us updated!
  9. I can't wait to hear "The Jungle Chase"... I also bet that "The Adventures of Mutt" and "Irina's Theme" will be concert arrangements. Anyway, it looks like a 70+ minutes album.
  10. No, the songs were written by Stephen Schwartz, both music and lyrics. Zimmer wrote the underscore, along with Harry Gregson-Williams, Rupert Gregson-Williams, Klaus Badelt and John Powell. I think that's the BIG problem with every single Zimmer score: you never really can tell who writes what. Ok, film music is a collaborative art and I'm fine with that. But Zimmer elevated the notion of "group effort" to a whole new (and dangerous) level.
  11. There are various apocryphal stories about Angela Morley role on E.T. One of that is that she wrote the heartbreaking string bridge of the film version of the "goodbye" segment of "Adventure on Earth" (the one that's missing on the concert version of the piece). Personally I don't buy any ghost-writing theory about that score. The manuscript of the score clearly says that E.T. is composed by JW from beginning to end.
  12. Wow, it seems it will be a great event. Good luck guys! Bring your photocameras and take pictures!
  13. Here's a very Williams-esque excerpt from the Scythian Suite. Go Sergej!
  14. Because licensing an OST recording for a promotional purpose like this (40-sec clip) would cost a hell lot of money! ...true.. but Empire's Indiana Jones Diaries and all of that features in the upcoming issue... who knows what lucasfilm would do for advertisment Well, I think that if Empire got an exclusive preview of the new Indy score, they would push it in a much more appropriate fashion...
  15. Because licensing an OST recording for a promotional purpose like this (40-sec clip) would cost a hell lot of money!
  16. Because, as I said before, this piece is very likely taken from a production music library. There are zillion of generic film music-like pieces in those libraries and they're frequently used in tv ads, commercials, promos, trailers and all that kind of promotional materials. It is very unlikley that LucasFilm licenced the rights to the new and not-yet released Indy soundtrack for promotional use like this one. And the piece doesn't sound even close to Williams!
  17. I love Sergei Prokofiev! It's definitely one of my favourite classical composers. I recommend everyone who loves John Williams' music to check Prokofiev's ballet scores, the piano and violin concertas and his symphonies. Just try to listen to the great "Schytian Suite".
  18. It's probably a track from some production music library. It's a very common practice to use pre-licenced tracks for this kind of promotional material. I work as promo producer for a TV company and we have lots of production music CDs we use for our purpose. There's a lot of stuff that sounds like film music and it's purposefully written to ape the style of famous composers. However, this piece doesnìt sound like Williams at all.
  19. Good luck, Fiery Angel! I hope you'll be able to meet with the Maestro and chat with him. I had that luck last November in Chicago (he also kindly posed for a picture with me) and it was one of the most thrilling experiences in my life so far. I thanked him for the beautiful concert and he was genuinely surprised when I told him I was coming from Italy to attend the concerts. I also thanked him for performing the theme from The Accidental Tourist as an encore. "Oh, did you like it?", he asked me. "It was amazing! I'm very fond of both the score and the film", I replied. Ah, those happy memories...
  20. Here's my tip: Dmitri Shostakovich's mammoth 11th Symphony "The Year 1905".
  21. I believe this will be an iTunes Exclusive release, tied with the upcoming DVD release.
