  1. - Marc, who is glad he didn't read Stefanco's spoiler before watching the video.
  2. Indeed so, Justin. And I can't believe MAJOR SPOILER!!! P.S.: I was really pissed off at the end, because I ALWAYS stay until the very end of the credits. But now some f*cking idiot stopped the movie the moment the credits started! We got to see that final shot, where you wait for something to happen (a really teasing moment for the next film ), then they cut to black, we saw "Directed by BRIAN SINGER" on screen, and then it just stopped, and all the lights went on. Sure, everyone was leaving, but why the hell did they stop the friggin' movie?! Bastards! - Marc, still pissed off about it. The Flying Sequence from Superman: The Movie
  3. I prefer Kamen's score too. I was knocked away by the chorus in the beginning of the film, but now I know it wasn't part of the score, I'm not really so sure it was all that great. And even though a lot of people have had critique about the first score not having a big brassy theme or something, I don't think it needed it. IMHO, X-Men isn't about superheroes with superpowers (not the films at least, I've never read the comics). X-Men is about people with extraordinary gifts. It's about the characters, not the action. That's at least how thought about the first film, and that's why I think it's such a good movie. It's about the characters. I think the first score suits the film perfectly. Maybe I have to see the second one a few more times to feel comfortable with the music, but nothing really sticked out for me at the first viewing. - Marc The Flying Sequence from Superman: The Movie
  4. I did the exact same thing and the music has an awesome effect on the scene. I wish somehow the music could be reincorporated in the movie. I know. Moments like this make me think Williams was the only one involved in the movie who really had a clue of what they were doing. Take the Conveyor Belt sequence for instance. Lucas has explained that he felt the sequence was needed to add some action to the movie, as the originally planned and shot trial of Padmé and Anakin would slow things down (Ep. II DVD). I certainly agree with him, but if you then look at what they came up with, it's just nothing more than a fun action sequence. I imagine Williams looked at it and thought "That's a nice popcorn bit, I'll write some cool building, bumbling music to go with it." So he did, and then during the final mix, the sound editors felt it didn't create the proper atmosphere for the danger the heroes were in. Right. So they drop the music, and use music from all over, making the scene a mess. I think Williams must have thought of the Conveyor Belt sequence as just a fun ride, while the people who had to make the final decisions (Ben Burtt again?) thought it was some sort of centrepiece or something. Whatever. I'm ranting now. Then with the Arena sequence, again. It's this cool fight with crazy action and cool beasts and everything, so Williams writes this awesome march, which occurs nowhere else in the film. Everything looks mega-cool, and then Burtt comes in and says, "Meh, I want the audience to feel like they're there. I'll make the sounds of the crowd replace the music." Not really an awful idea, if it wasn't for the fact that the music written for the scene was so powerful and intense, it really makes you grab hold of your bucket of popcorn, lean back, and get this "Here we go" feeling. I also think the scene drags a little long now. That last bit before the music comes back up, where Obi-Wan fights the creature, that's where I always get the feeling it's taking too long. Although I must add, that I do not really know what Lucas's input in all of this was. It's easy to blame someone like Ben Burtt for this, but Lucas is the director, and he most have had some sort of conversation with Williams about the music he wanted for each scene. Also, if you watch one of the documentaries on the Ep. II DVD, you see the sound crew in the final dubbing stage, and they're working on the Conveyor Belt sequence. Someone (I don't know who, because I still don't have the DVD at hand and I can't check it) says that the percussion isn't really strong enough for the scene. As far as I could tell, the bit of music heard there is unrealeased, and it may not be strong enough for that particular bit, but the track is building; it is going somewhere. These ideas do have a reason, they do come from somewhere. They're just not thought through. Sure, the podrace in Ep. I was great without music, it's really awesome, but that doesn't mean it will work everywhere. I don't know who exactly is responsible for the dumb-ass decisions that have been made in the prequels in the way they handled the score, but someone obviously bullocked things up. - Marc, who lent a friend his Ep. I and II DVD's before Easter, but still hasn't had them back. Poor me. The March Of The Villains from Superman: The Movie
  5. That is not in track 5, the Raptor Attack? (and the one i said ) I think that it sounds more to the raptor breathing-purr, but if it matches the steps..then i dunno. I meant the bit where the raptor charges down on Lex's reflection. - Marc The Planet Krypton (Alternate) from Superman: The Movie
  6. In the kitchen scene (the beginning of track 15) from Jurassic Park, the timpani's (?) play in sync with the raptor's footsteps.
  7. Well, I don't have the DVD right now, but if I'm not mistaken, you can just start track 12 from the CD when the love theme comes in just before they enter the arena. It will then play together, until about the moment Padme jumps onto the back of that creature Anakin is riding. That shot of the creatures coming out of the gate and advancing on our heroes with that pounding march playing is awesome!
  8. Has anyone ever cued up the Arena music with the actual Ep. II scene? It's absolutely awesome! As for the other films: Star Wars: The French horn solo in Binary Sunset and the Throne Room fanfare. The Empire Strikes Back: The brass section when Luke throws the granade into the AT-AT and Han and Leia's theme when Han is frozen in carbonite. Return of the Jedi: Leaving Tatooine and the chorus in the final duel (not sure about the track titles). The Phantom Menace: The Force theme when Anakin leaves his mother and Qui-Gon's funeral. - Marc, who couldn't choose.
  9. Well, to each his own. - Marc, who thinks The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was one of the best films he ever saw, but is not going to preach others into liking it to.
  10. Well has anyone ever seen that picture of the original Treebeard? Shocking!
  11. Well, there's not much, besides Return of the King. I guess this'll give me some time to buy some older JW scores. Let's see, on top of my list are: Superman, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Lost World, the Indy scores... - Marc, busy, busy, busy...
  12. Maybe he was confused with Return of the Jedi? - Marc, having no clue at all. Coming Home From The Sea from The Perfect Storm (James Horner)
  13. "Change... Raiders... of the... Lost... Ark... Yes... Why didn't we think of that before?" Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark coming soon on Special Edition DVD, where the word "Nazi" has been replaced by "person with political differences" and the guns have been replaced by walkie-talkies! - Marc, bored.
  14. Nice. Don't see the need of removing shadows and equipment, though. They're as much part of the movie as the aged effects. Sounds like ILM's showing off again on that. But otherwise it looks fine. Don't know if I'll buy it though, because I've got the box set VHS already, and I paid quite a lot for it. Although, I do want to see these films in Panavision... - Marc, ranting.
  15. It's time the BttF scores get a proper release. Although I wonder how they would handle the first one, since the score doesn't start until Brown rolls the DeLorean out of his van. Maybe put the suite or "The Power of Love" in front of it. - Marc, thinking it's really, really time they release the complete BttF scores...
  16. Yeah, these things happen to me as well. I always have my DiscMan on when I drive to school on my bike, and it has happened more than once that I arrive at school, look up to that tall building, and hear the Death Star motif from ANH. Wicked! - Marc, who doesn't like to go to school.
  17. Awesome. "John Williams talks viagra," what the hell? - Marc, entertained
  18. I know it's all in good fun. I just hate myself for falling for it EACH AND EVERY TIME... - Marc
  19. Yeah, no Cho. Probably no Cedric too. Meh. We'll just have to wait and see when (and if) the fourth movie comes out. - Marc, who thinks holding off on introducing new characters for a next film isn't a bad thing at all.
  20. I hate April Fools... - Marc, ticked off.
  21. Hey, Weebo! Welcome back, man!
  22. Yes, yes, yes! Ren, you are turning them to our faith. Good job! - Marc, who thinks more kids should listen to film scores, or at least instrumental music in stead of crappy pop beats.
