  1. why can't I listen to it ? I can see, but there is no audio!
  2. Hi there, everyone! God, has been a long time since I last started a new topic. Well, what I want from you people is to know what are the most beautiful themes from the movies (and when I say beautiful I mean a theme that would melt you down in tears if you were that sensible). Now, please keep in mind that I do not want this to become a discussion of "facts". I just want to know your opinion and what are the most moving themes for YOU. Thank you, everyone. See you around.
  3. Thank you Maraquesh, whoever you are, I needed that.
  4. #4 Miguel - It has been a long, long time
  5. Why can't I listen to it ? I downloaded the player but when I click to play nothing hapens! Someone help me?
  6. Ocelot is a homo KM is kinda afraid of homo's Ocelot has a photo of his boyfriend as his avatar. KM does not like to browse through the MB when he has visitors cause he is afraid Ocelot's avatar might geive them the wrong idea about KM. Ocelot gets laid several times a week. KM lives with his cat. I'm sure everything is clear now. Stefancos- wondering is Weal is the husband or wife.... LOL LOL I must print this one...
  7. I'm sorry to hear this, I really respect him and his work. May he rest in peace.
  8. Congratulations! I just can't stop hearing it! It reminds me of "The Mummy Returns", don't know why... I guess it has the same feeling to me.
  9. Well, in my point of you, Spielberg's main concern was/is prevent that the world forgets what Jews suffered in those years of horror and prevent that it happens again. The movie SL just gave an hint of all the atrocities that took place in the WWII and SPR is just a minor reproduction (the best one though, IMO) of what war was/is like . Millions of people were murdered, that shouldn't be forgotten.
  10. I must say that I mostly agree with the topic title (ok, savior is a bit strong ). Of course Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest directors alive... he is certainly the most popular one. But just think about this: His first blockbuster was Jaws. THAT movie was the first turn point in his career. Now, imagine the film without the music and, especially, without the shark motif. Would it be as efective and successful? I don't think so, it would have to be, at least, edited differently, it would be a different movie. Could any other composer write such a threatning theme? I guess so, but it wouldn't be the same. I think Jaws it's one of those rare examples where music and picture combine perfectly. Without Williams music, Steven's career wouldn't have had that ignition. But, let's admit that his career would progress the same way as it did after Jaws. His next project was Close Encounters of the Third Kind and we all know that Williams got involved with it since it's earlier stages. So, Williams music was one of Spielberg's sources of inspiration for the film, playing, as we all know, a vital part in it. It's not illogical to admit that, without that particular music, Close Encounters would be slightly (to say the least) different. Would it be such an incredible movie? Probably not. The next Spielberg's blockbuster was Indiana Jones and The Raiders Of The Lost Ark ( ), making him even more successful. Williams music for that film has, probably, the most well known movie theme ever (well, at least that is my perception in my country). It's a wounderfull, billiantly directed movie, but would it be as engaging and heroic if it weren't for Williams music? Probably not. Then came E.T., and what can I say that hasn't been said? Only that I completely agree with Chris. E.T wouldn't work for me without the music, especially without Williams greatly inspired themes. And this was THE movie that made Spielberg a world wide phenomenon. Joe said "E.T. is greater than the sum of all its parts" and that's true, but isn't it true that if you subtract one of the parts it will afect the sum? After E.T., Spielberg has proven, time and time again, what a brilliant director he is, but I believe that every person's history his made of evolution and not of single moments. Having said that, Williams made a major difference in Steven's earlier point of his career, without whom he wouldn't be where he is today (this works the other way around too). Remember that Spielberg once said that "John has never failed to suprise me, uplift me or make me look good " and I think he really meant it. Mind you that this is just my opinion, no one has to be offended by it. Ah, and please avoid the "sh*t" thing... Miguel
  11. Yes, you're right. I completely forgot about that. So, could we see the complete list, Joe ? Miguel - Eagerly waiting for that list.
  12. Could we see the complete list, Ricard ? It must be very interesting.
  13. Those are excelent news! Will we really be able to listen to all those themes in the piano, played by John Williams?! Miguel -
  14. I'm sorry Ocelot, I have no knowledge of those awards. Could you post a link to their site?
  15. I'm sorry, because of the quotation I thought your post was meant to refute my own. Just a misunderstanding. LOL Yes, it is.
  16. Never said it was, I gave an example. It's your opinion, I respect it and, actually, I agree. Never said he had to. Don't need to apologize, It's your opinion and you can enjoy everything that pleases you (that's what I do!). I also almost always feel good with JW music, it happens that the 9th symphony reaches higher levels in me than almost anything else.
  17. How many of you have listened to the "classic" composers? I mean, REALLY listened to them. I believe a great amount of you never troubled to listen and yet, you have an opinion about them when you say JW is the best composer. I don't mean to sound snobbish, it's only a matter of logics. If you listened I find it hard to believe that you rank JW as the best ever, but I have to accept your opinion. I didn't study music (well, not all the way) but I believe I've listened to a good range of symphonic and chamber music, and after all that I'm a big JW fan (otherwise I wouldn't be here) but I can not rank him as the BEST composer ever. In fact, I can't name just one composer, there are so many. My favourites are Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaicovsky, Saint-Saens, Chopin, Korsakoff, Prokofiev, Dvorak, John Williams, John Barry, Rota, Herrmann and so many more... Who's the best? I don't know. Who's music I listen the most? John Williams, but that doesn't mean I like Beethoven less, God no. Subjectively, I enjoy the 9th Symphony more than anything JW has ever composed. Miguel - Who hopes no one gets mad about this.
  18. WOW, thanks everyone! Now I have a list of scores that I'll get as soon as possible. I'm specially looking forward to listen to those with choir. If they are as good as the ones in the LOTR films I'll enjoy them very much. The list so far: Big The Cell Dogma Ed Wood The Fly Looking for Richard Mrs. Doubtfire The Score The Silence of the Lambs The Yards Thanks again!
  19. As you can see in my other thread, I usually don't buy scores without knowing if they are any good. But this time I came across some scores at 5 euros each and took a chance. I just bought Nell (Mark Isham) and Incognito (John Ottman) but I haven't listen to them yet nor will listen until Saturday. So, what are your opinions about them? P.S. - I know this is a John Williams MB but since I'm an occasional poster I hope you can forgive me for posting so many topics not related with JW.
  20. I was going to ask that. Now seriously, thank you Morn for your suggestion, I will get to that one later. I would like to start with more conventional, easy listening score. Thank you Neil. Your suggestion is noted too.
  21. Well, I would like to expand my collection of Howard Shore scores (I just have LOTR - FOTR and TTT), but I have a hard time choosing because I don't want to risk buying a mediocre one. So I would thank a little help on this.
  22. I voted for BOTFJ. I love the prologue and the theme it's great. Like Morn said, it's moving. The most moving, in my opinion. and those strings... I get chills every time I hear them. After BOTFJ I would have an hard time choosing a second best. JFK it's very solemn and Nixon very powerfull (I especially love "I am that sacrifice" track, brilliant)
  23. Well, lets give it a try. This isn't a definite list but it's the one you must count with. 1 - Superman 2 - Schindler's List 3 - Jaws 4 - Star Wars - EP V 5 - Raiders Of The Lost Ark 6 - E.T. 7 - Angela's Ashes 8 - Harry Potter and C of S 9 - Hook 10- Star Wars - Ep IV Miguel - Not very happy with this list or any other.
  24. I completely agree with you and don't forget Superman - The Movie, that was a scandal, imho.
