Spoiling bunch of pricks in this thread.

Nice one

I saw the latest episode. Still a mess but at least the court room drama part salvaged it. Greyjoy's storyline is really wrecking this show, it's fucking tedious and boring. Check out sis' rallying speech intercut with more pointless soft porn. FUCKING GIVE IT A REST, I'm not 15. This show has zero class at this point.

Stannis is the most turgid portrayal in the entire production, the actor is bland bland bland. The Iron Bank scene was... underwhelming.

What else was there of note this episode? I've forgotten.

So yeah, the corny trial of poor Tyrion. It was just involving enough to save another crappy instalment and it was nice to see Dinklage put in for his Emmy. And Shay? OMG what a scorned whore from hell! What an evil bitch she turned out to be, I hope she gets garotted in the next episode.

But really, the thing has just become a total borefest, but judging by the eager tongues of the posters above I see that we're closing in on another cheap as chips end of season shocker/cull again. It's like Lost with costumes.

Meh.

I've been too lazy to comment earlier, but I absolutely loved the latest episode. Easily one of the best of the entire series so far for me. And I was more than happy with it before the trial even started.

Loved the Iron Bank. I was getting tired of Stannis perpetual frown (correct though it is), but this time Dillane actually gave a fun performance (without compromising the frown). Cunningham's Davos was refreshingly entertaining as well. And Mark Gatiss was awesome.

More than anything though this episode showed how much the entire series relies (and rightfully so) on its cast. As perfectly demonstrated by the trial: No exciting camera zooms, special effects or breaking up the sequence with other story bits. The camera is even allowed to linger on the actors for a second or two longer at the end of some scenes. For a big budget fantasy extravaganza, that seems an even bold move.

And I have to say one thing about the Theon storyline: As much as you may debate the point of drawing it out so long (in the series, but in the book as well, though in a different fashion), I have to say its still well made and, at least for me, intriguing. Theon's transformation does hit home, and Ramsey is a lunatic of an entirely different sort from even Joffrey.

I wish they gave more spotlight to Varys and made his intentions more clear as they were in the novels.

Same here, although (book semi-spoiler)

even in the novels I don't trust a word he says, and I think that his true goal is one of the key mysteries of the whole story (of which there are many). I wouldn't be surprised to discover that he isn't even a eunuch!

Holy mother of fuck. What the hell is wrong with you, several bad days in a row? How can you write such a hateful and insulting post.... please stop that.

I am sorry for every unprepared user that comes in here in good mood and has to read such a thing

I enjoyed this episode a lot.

- Back at King's Landing, I really liked the Varys/Oberyn scene. As others have said, it was nice to finally have Varys back after him being just an extra in previous episodes. It is unclear to me if he is interested in the Iron Throne or not. Before that conversation with Oberyn, it seemed clear he wasn't, but at the end of it, I'm not sure anymore.

This is surprising; not just because he stated previously that his interest was in keeping the Kingdom as safe as possible by finding arrangements, striking a balance between the desires of all the players, but because he hinted at such a thirst for power in such an obvious way to such a man as Oberyn.

The Theon stuff was pretty dull.

I'm not sure how far it was and how long it took exactly, but it did seemed like a long time, and the result was a catastrophic failure.

Seeing the dogs, I thought of killing them; why didn't she?

And why didn't she simply knock out her raving brother and carry him away?

Silly

:\

Good scene of Daenerys discovering a bit more what ruling really means: hours of complaints, lots of decisions great and small to make, compromises to accept and possible regrets.

About Tyrion: though the trial is suspenseful and Shae's testimony was quite an ordeal for poor Tyrion, and despite his acting here, I prefer scenes such as some of those he had with Shae, or with Jaime (when he visited him in his cell, for instance); I found them more interesting character- and acting-wise.

The point of the scene was that Yara realized her brother became loyal to Ramsay, and so, as she says at the end of the scene, her brother is dead, in a way. She ran away because of that, not because of the dogs.

Of course, but she did make some silly mistakes.

Reminds me that I forgot to comment on the acting in that sequence. I can see how Dinklage's acting may be considered over the top in it. Actually it is - but no more than appropriate for that character in that situation. But the whole sequence was full of brilliant performances. Headey's and Dance's contempt (and I really like Pascal as Oberyn)... and Coster-Waldau's pained silences, too.

They left the series later than they left the books. But I guess they'll show up again at some point.

She went to some place with Rickon... Who gives a fuck? She's just another disposable character!

She's Natalia Tena!

Who is Rickon again? Oh the youngest Stark, right?

So he's out of the picture now then.

Rickon will be Westeros' saviour after everyone is gone and dead. Martin thinks he's so clever for hiding that card up his sleeve.

They changed the name within the series? I failed to notice.

They were afraid viewers would be confused if there were two characters with very similar names (Osha and Asha).

No problem: i had forgotten :D

They should have thought of it sooner.

So was that the actual point of the whole sequence?

;)

Trick question. It would have been nice if there was one, but there wasn't.

...after the climactic build up in the last ep of season 3, and then nothing...

Final Episode Cliffhanger syndrome strikes again!

When anything exciting seems to be on the cards in a season finale of Game of Thrones, it's probably best to think "Ah, for FEC's sake!"

This show likes to climax big, but without any of the juicy foreplay during the build-up, at least in this season anyway. Must think sprinkling tits and arse in there counts as foreplay I guess.

Game of Thrones 4x06 The Laws of Gods and Men

Another great episode. Like the fourth episode of the season Oathkeeper, it went from one story to the next without returning to any characters it already covered, and I like this style of editing - seems to make each segment longer, and give them more weight.

Stannis and Davos in Braavos - I liked the moody intro of them sailing into the city through the statue, though the constant grimace Stannis always has was kinda comical here. I quite enjoyed Mark Gatiss's performance as the head of the Iron Bank. The big problem with this scene was that Stannis missed a huge opportunity here to stand up for himself after being initially and basically gave up and Davos had to do everything for him. Why should anyone follow a man who can't even give one inspired speech?

Queen Daenarys in Meereen - Loved this scene, showing the realities of ruling a city - lots of unhappy residents, lots of decisions to be made, and they aren't all huge ones, but all must be made.

Yara Greyjoy attempts to rescue Theon from Ramsay Snow - Not sure why this got so much hate, really. We saw last season Yara and Balon receiving Reek's letter with Theon's dick, and she vowed to go rescue him rather than see him continue to be tortured. Once she arrive she saw he was turned, and was also out-numbered and about to be attacked by attack dog, so she felt it wiser to leave than to stay and fight. Now, I don't get why they waited 6 episodes into the season to show us this happening, but whatever. I for one am interested to see what happens next with both Theon and Yara, especially where Theon is going to have to impresonate himself to help Ramsay take over that Ironborn castle they want, and to see what Yara and Balon's plans are (Isn't Balon supposed to be one of the 5 kings in the War of 5 Kings?)

The Small Council Meeting - As always, any scene with Tywin continues to impress. I did dislike how fast information travels on the show - shouldn't it take months for them to learn that Daenerys has set up residence in Meereen? I wonder what he thinks he can do to prevent her from attacking Westeros.

Varys and Oberyn - Loved this little scene between these 2 characters. You have to wonder what Varys' true goals are. He seemed to indicate here that he wants the throne for himself, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's misdirection. Being from Essos, I wonder if he ultimately wants Daenerys on the throne?

The Trial of Tyrion Lannister - This was really great! I loved all the testimony that covered all kinds of Tyrion moments going all the way back to the first season. As soon as Tywin told Jaime that Tyrion can be spared (sent to the Night's Watch) if Jaime agrees to move to Casterly Rock and get married and produce Lannister offspring, I knew that was exactly what wasn't going to happen. I did NOT see Shae turning up at the trial coming, that was a surprise. And holy hell, what she said there! That was some cold, cold shit! I dunno if it's something as simple as "a women scorned" situation, of if whoever found her was able to offer her something worse while to turn on Tyrion, but damn! So cold! Tyrion's speech afterwards was fantastic, a very good performance by Dinklage. And him asking for trial by combat was awesome - it worked for him last time in The Eyrie, but also I have to assume this is a setup for Oberyn and The Mountain getting in the same place and fighting each other. I have no idea which one will fight for Tyrion, but this is what I predict will happen!

Can't wait for tonight's new episode - next week is an off-week, so it will be all the GOT we get for 2 weeks!

Maybe Varys knew the assassination wouldn't be successful, and needed to order it to make it look like he was in league with the current throne, etc.

Shae obviously felt bad saying all this; she was threatened.

Even though he only has one hand, won't Tyrion pick Jaime as his champion? Is it even possible, since he's head of the royal guard? Probably not.

I'm certain Oberyn will be Tyrion's champion and the Mountain will be Tywin's.

Uh. Seems a bit contrived-- just the one he wanted to kill.
