Cerebral Cortex 3,357
New Star Trek Series Rumored To Be Set Before TNG Quote A trusted source has chimed in and told me that it looks like the show will be a seasonal anthology, which means the first season will be set post-Undiscovered Country. After that the entire Star Trek universe is potentially open. So those of you hoping for a post-Dominion War show... don't give up hope. That could come some day. Every article I've read recently, including the one posted earlier this month in this thread, has indicated the first season at least will be set after The Undiscovered Country, but before TNG. These two articles were posted today and also claim it will be set before TNG (Article 1, Article 2). I can't handle such uncertainty!

Pieter Boelen 740
Special effect looks "cool" in a very generic sort of way. If it isn't taken directly from the Star Trek 2009 end credits, it might as well have been. Does that font look very 2009-ish or am I mistaken there? Multiple crews does sound potentially interesting. Especially if it is multiple ships at the same time.
Jay 37,364
Oh, good point - maybe the show will cover 2 or 3 different ships all exploring the galaxy at the same time. So they will have more actors, but pay them for less episodes, and of course occasionally the crews will crossover. Who knows. Pieter Boelen 740
Come to think of it, it would be a great way to put to rest the "Enterprise is always the only ship around" comment. Plus more variety could be good. Different design ships and maybe some specialised vessels for specific purposes. And imagine the team ups during the season finales! Maybe a bit of... dare I say it... space battles?

Dixon Hill 4,234
What's all this about "progressive" audiences? The thing that worked about, say, having Nichelle Nichols in a leading role was that they didn't make it into a thing. They just did it. If they make it into a thing now to be "progressive," it'll be heavy-handed shite.
Disco Stu 15,495
It was very much a conscious decision to be progressive in casting Nichols. Making it "a thing" behind the scenes is not the same thing as making it "a thing" on screen. A conscious decision by Fuller to have a diverse cast just can't be cast in a bad light, in my opinion. Well, I just did cast the decision in a bad light... IF it is presented in a wishy-washy contemporary American way in the show itself, and that Fuller mentions it here is at least an inkling that it's on their minds enough to go that route. The great thing about Star Trek is that it doesn't preach about any of this stuff. It's just presented as the way things are in the future, when people have gotten over dumb shit. That's the way I like my Star Trek. Not with in-your-face social commentary and try-hard "progressiveness." This is absurdly speculative, just clarifying my point. I guess I'm just not sure what your dreaded worst-case scenario actually looks like, any examples of diversity done "the wrong way"? (IMO, the only "wrong" way to do it is begrudgingly). As a big fan of Fuller's previous work, I certainly don't think there's any reason to approach this series with pessimism.
