The Illustrious Jerry 3,356
@Jay I was not sure where to post this, so if you would like to merge it some place go ahead. The beginning of this track from The Phantom Menace Ultimate Edition (the first five seconds) are pretty much the same as the first five seconds of I'm No Hero off the FYC for the Force Awakens. Jay 37,364
There's nothing wrong with starting a new thread, but this is something that's been pointed out many times before in the 2 1/2 years it's been since this score came out. On 12/16/2015 at 11:29 AM, Incanus said: Interestingly a hint of the lovely melody from Talk of Podracing from Episode I makes a sneak appearance in the middle of the film. Who would have thought. On 12/18/2015 at 8:50 PM, leeallen01 said: Oooo wait a tic, there's a definite Phantom Menace vibe to the beginning of Finn's Confession. On 12/18/2015 at 8:52 PM, Jay said: It's from Talk of Podracing On 2/9/2016 at 12:37 PM, Luke Skywalker said: For example, the talk of podracing in finn's confession...yeah it's more note by note blatant, but makes no sense thematically. On 2/9/2016 at 2:11 PM, Falafel said: Its a discussion (like in Talk of Podracing and The Queen Confronts Nute and Rune), and its a confrontation (like in The Queen Confronts Nute and Rune) On 2/9/2016 at 2:28 PM, BloodBoal said: So it's a "confrontational discussion" theme! On 2/9/2016 at 2:30 PM, Luke Skywalker said: i dont think that williams did it consciously... On 2/9/2016 at 2:41 PM, Falafel said: Also its appearance in Talk of Podracing play when Qui-Gon's "cover is blown" on being a Jedi Knight, just like it plays in TFA when Finn reveals that he was a Stormtrooper. On 3/25/2016 at 1:48 PM, Incanus said: I am more interested to know how that curious little melody from Talk of Podracing made its way to Finn's Confession theme-wise and if there is indeed any conscious subtext there beyond perhaps temp-tracking. On 3/26/2016 at 1:14 AM, artguy360 said: Concerning the Talk of Podracing quote in Finn's Confession, that's a real puzzle. Outside of that music always accompanying conversations, I see no connection. I wonder if JW just wanted a small quote of prequel music and liked that music. On 10/2/2017 at 12:03 PM, Not Mr. Big said: Also, I have this strange feeling that Williams will bring back the "Finn's Confession/Talk of Podracing" melody at some point in the film. On 3/22/2018 at 10:34 PM, King Mark said: the worse rippoff was in TFA with the Talk of Podracing copy. nothing as bad in TLJ On 4/22/2018 at 2:29 PM, mrbellamy said: I'm sure there's a fairly benign reason why "Talk of Podracing" randomly shows up in Force Awakens too, by the way. Again, maybe that was in the temp and he and JJ looked at each other and went "That's kinda nice!" Once I got past that initial anxiety of "WHY?!?!?!" it really is just a small and sweet way to blend it in with the prequels, even if it's for no particular reason. And Faleel calls it the "Discussion and Confrontation" theme in his big Star Wars theme list: http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/topic/25879-the-thematic-material-of-the-star-wars-saga-possible-community-project Holko, Will, Taikomochi and 2 others 3
Kasey Kockroach 2,344
March of the Resistance was probably temp-tracked with The Banquet.

Drew 590
It's at the beginning of "Finn's Confession" (obviously). I would consider that more JW trying to find a parallel between this and the prequels than temp tracking.
