gkgyver 1,647 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Listening to Eastern Promises right now. Sublime score.
Incanus 5,891 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Listening to Eastern Promises right now. Sublime score. It is rather. The score is positively dripping with Slavonic melacholy which more often than not gets to me.
gkgyver 1,647 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Yes, I know. I often wonder how this distinct Russian/Slavonic tone is achieved in composition. I have a very personal connection with the Russian culture (through a lovely girl named, ironically, Tatiana), been there several times, and I feel Shore captured it beautifully.
crocodile 9,724 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I have absolutely no idea.And I am a Slav.Karol
BloodBoal 8,711 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 And I am a Slav. How do you know for sure? You don't even know the difference between Slavonic and Slavic!
crocodile 9,724 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Well, I wear a ring with two intertwining serpents with emerald eyes. And don't age much. Karol Gnome in Plaid 1
crocodile 9,724 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Hey Viggo Mortensen. At least our conversation still makes some kind of sense.Inexplicably. Karol
Incanus 5,891 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Can you two enlighten me as to the difference between Slavonic and Slavic in this case? Ta! Actually they have pretty much the same meaning, either refering to Slavs as people or something relating to them or specifically the Slavic language(s).
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 It's the score where he pushes his aleatoric work to the farthest boundaries, and its fascinating to hear as a whole. Really one of my favourite Shore works.Listening to this again tonight. I've never seen the movie; does anyone have anything good to say about it? A Google search suggests that it's visually weird/awesome.
KK 3,313 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Never seen it. From what I've heard, it doesn't hold up to scrutiny well and its a bit pretentious but its visuals are really cool. I've been curious about checking it out myself. The director also happens to be the same guy who directed Immortals....
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I'm mostly intrigued by the Holy Mountain esque imagery. Maybe I'll watch it.
Jay 46,245 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Clickbait tweet! A> Cronenberg immediately turning down their offer is not "shockingly close"B> Even if Cronenberg directed a SW film, there's no guarantee Shore would have scored it.
Bilbo 4,294 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 That story was around earlier in the week and he was asked to direct one of the earlier sequels (as in Return of the Jedi) not one of the new ones.
KK 3,313 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 To my knowledge, Shore has scored all of Cronenberg's films since their collaboration started. And considering he was offered one of the spinoff movies (not the main trilogy), I don't see why Shore wouldn't have done it.Though Shore and Star Wars don't exactly mix...
gkgyver 1,647 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I'd have actually paid money to see a Shore-scored SW film on the big screen.
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Didn't they say that before LOTR! Was there not a member who recently posted here about how versatile Shore can be? Dramatically versatile, but technically he's fairly circumscribed. But that's not necessarily a bad thing, so were Barry and Herrmann (and Philip Glass is a good living example). t just means it wouldn't be a STAR WARS score with the quick-witted, endlessly colourful, improvisational quality we're used to. It would probably be more unified, but at the expense of tonal variety.

Ironically the one that he didn't score came out in 1983! The same year as Jedi....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dead_Zone_(film) Once 1
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Would much rather have official releases of various concert pieces.
crocodile 9,724 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Some are most certainly coming. I'd love to hear the piano concerto, the bit we heard in that one documentary was very nice.Karol
crocodile 9,724 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 It has been said it is his intention, yes.But that's hardly a confirmation.Karol
KK 3,313 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 As much as I'd love to hear that, I have a feeling we won't be seeing it happen.
crocodile 9,724 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 They might release it under a different name or something like that. It has happened before.Karol
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Any idea hoe much was actually recorded?
crocodile 9,724 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 There's only one person on this board who can possibly know the answer. And that's not me, surprisingly.Karol
gkgyver 1,647 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Wasn't the rumor (or actual info) that around 50 minutes had been recorded before the plug was pulled?
Jay 46,245 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Cover art and ordering links for all three releaseshttp://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st_date-desc-rank?qid=1408111915&rh=n%3A5174%2Cp_32%3AHoward+Shore&sort=date-desc-rank
gkgyver 1,647 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I already have Naked Lunch. Not sure it's my cup of tea.
Jim Ware 638 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Cover art and ordering links for all three releaseshttp://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st_date-desc-rank?qid=1408111915&rh=n%3A5174%2Cp_32%3AHoward+Shore&sort=date-desc-rankWell that wasn't there earlier! Looks a bit temp.
Jim Ware 638 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Philip Glass and Elliot Goldenthal, although neither have released any film music recently.
Jonesy 55 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I wonder what Brian Eno thinks of Howard Shore...Eno thinks Shore ruined the LOTR/Hobbits films
