I dunno. Because Hollywood has no imagination. Or because the people at the prison didn't want to cooperate. Or because there weren't enough people at the prison.

But it would have been awesome if the Bats actually had thought on that to get out of the pit.

The money shot at the end reminded me of Starship Troopers

World War Z looks absolutely awful. Unbelievably bad.

We saw the trailer for the new Twilight film before Skyfall. Most of the audience members were snickering.

We saw the trailer for the new Twilight film before Skyfall. Most of the audience members were snickering.

Same reaction in my theater as well.

Better than my theater. They showed a bunch of trailers, including one of Skyfall itself which a bunch of us exclaimed, "Looks good, should check it out some time." Then another trailer starts which appears to be for Paranormal Activity 4. Seemed kind of weird for a trailer but since I hadn't seen any but the first I just shrugged it off and kept watching. About 5 minutes in, we all got the hint that they were actually playing the film instead of Skyfall so someone ran to the desk to tell them.

Then we had to watch a whole new set of trailers before the movie started, including The Hobbit trailer for the second time. At least we were avoided the indecency of Twilight.

At least you got to see the Hobbit trailer.

During my visits at the theatre in the past months, I haven't seen it once.

I think the new "Les Miserables" look very good. I had chills while seeing the trailer.

A trailer for Alan Moore's (I kid you not) and Mitch Jenkins' film:

Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) is making the remake of Logan's Run with Ryan Goslling ... isn't that mildly exciting?

Posted

At least, I hope Refn can give the film its own vibe, even though it's a big budget movie. I don't need another anonymous Hollywood product.

he'll make a bad remake of a bad film. Drive isn't very good either.

Posted

As long as it's not another faceless Hollywood product, it's fine by me. Even if it's just Logan's Run, I find it always interesting when an independent oddball, someone who is his own man, suddenly makes a science fiction film in the Hollywood system. These are moments when greatness can present itself. You can bet your life that Refn's film (he's even writing the script) isn't going to be merely a remake of the first movie. Of course, making big movies under the watching eye of worried producers might not be his thing. Maybe Logan's Run will turn out to be the Dune of this decade. We'll see, but for now, consider me 'interested'.

I can't wait for Elysium.

I can't wait for Elysium.

If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you're already dead!

is he the guy that made that south african alien movie a few years back. It was sort of cool but it certainly made a point that south africa is a nasty dirty hell hole. Not exactly a travelog. It did for S.A. tourism what SlumDog millionaire did for India..

Posted

Yes, Neill Blomkamp, he's the director. Sharlto Copley was the guy that turned into the alien in District 9, and he gets third billing in this Elysium movie.

I read news reports out of South Africa that the mass media is doing a good job of suppressing, about the black Africans killing the white minority, as almost a way of getting back at apartheid all these years later. I would never set foot in that country.

Saw the trailer for Life of Pi before Skyfall started.

Film looks absolutely breathtaking. The Cold Play song 'Paradise' probably helped. I'll definitely be there.

Score is dramatically very conventional. Is it a movie for kids?

Posted

Not sure, could be. It certainly looks kid friendly. Not heard any of the score, since Coldplay was used in the trailer I saw.

Posted

By whom?

It had potential to be good, but ultimately failed terribly.

Alex, who cares if it's for kids or not. Just watch the fucking movie if it looks interesting. The book had some decent violence from what I remember.

Posted

It's on Spotify. The ethnic parts sound okay though.

Who cares if the movie is made for kids or adults? Well, I do.

A quick Google brought up proclamations of "mastery", Koray. Wiki seemed to indicate it too. Other than that I do not know. Never heard of it till recently.

"An elegant proof of God, and the power of storytelling", according to your President.

A boy and a tiger spend a long time in a boat. How on earth does the story last longer than the five seconds it takes for the tiger to break the kid's neck or slit the jugular?

Posted

Brief summary of the novel told through a Koray filter:

The novel is about a boy who survives a shipwreck with a bunch of animals. There's a wonderful allegory here that each animal is a suppressed personification of an actual person in the boy's mind. They kill each other to survive, but in the end the author is audacious enough to push that the animals were just animals and there was some spiritual divine intervention ever present on the journey to rescue. At least this what I remember from it, read it in school awhile back. If the former was utilized more effectively rather than merely suggested, I thought it could have been pretty good. The author also steps in between chapters occasionally to muse about himself. At first I thought this was written from the tiger's perspective since it was italicized but I later realized he was just a douche.

I read the spoiler and realized I didn't want to see the flick or book anyways.

Posted

I do realize that seeing the book and reading it are two different things. I see books in bookstores all the time and actually walk out dumber than before.

I read the spoiler

Of course you did.

I can't help it. I see a spoiler and have to read it. It's like a turtle on the side of the road. I just have to poke it with a stick. It's gotta be done.

It's because you're unfulfilled.

Wha? Is that like going to sleep with them still blue?

Oh God....how that kid irked me. King Arthur?!...Hah! What a joke!

There's a simple remedy to all this ... don't watch bad shows!
