how sad for you to hate songs. film music is wonderful stuff but it is only one flavor of music. There are many great songs that are as good as many soundtrack ques.

I have many Elton's favourite songs. I love all his early 70s albums, they're just great. This song is beautiful:

Big fan.

Gotta go with "Circle of Life". It holds a special place in my heart, and it's also the song I sing the most in karaoke bars etc. That and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight".

But "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is probably his artistic peak (the whole album is brilliant!). I've tried this a few times too, but it's very difficult to sing. Lots of odd chord changes and stuff.

I can take or leave the Stones, though some of their songs are superb -- Miss You, Paint It Black, and a few others. "Angie" makes my ears bleed.

Ok, I'm not a pure completist. I'm a lazy one. I mostly buy legitimate albums, but even then, I don't own them all and try to buy used when I can. I usually avoid greatest hits compilations in all cases, choosing instead to buy the actual albums if I like the artist enough. I don't think I have any Who bootlegs, but may have gotten one or two from Wolfgangs. I typically stay away from post-Moon material, and I'm not a huge fan of the Who Are You album or most of the songs before Tommy. I think using the word "completist" around The Who was incorrect. I just tend to like their big three albums -- Tommy, Who's Next, Quadrophenia -- more than most artists' entire discography.

That means the only artist that I'm a completist for is Genesis.

A for the Beatles, I have been obsessed since I was a kid (I'm 32). My high school years were a treat for that obsession. I spent a ton of time tracking down Yellow Dog and all the other great bootlegs that flooded the underground market. So much fun.

He sounded bloomin' awful at the Queen's Jubilee concert recently - that's a first for him. Like croaky old McCartney, it's now time to stick to the recording studio.

Forty Licks is a superb compilation album. I like the Stones enough to buy their discography one day. The Who, probably not enough. I have their Ultimate Collection compilation, which is also fantastic. I never really felt the need to get their studio albums though.

Tommy and Quadrophenia are best appreciated in their entirety as concept albums or rock operas, whichever you believe them to be on that day. "Pinball Wizard" is not the strongest song on Tommy, as it was added to give the album a pop hit and radio play, and it kinda shows. But Who's Next IS a greatest hits album of The Who, with every song on it a classic rock staple. If you own one Who album, make it Who's Next.

The Madman Across the Water and Live in Australia albums are 2 favourites (I actually like the voice gravel for the latter, despite his ill health in actuality).

Levon, Original Sin, Greatest Discovery, Empty Garden, All Quiet on the Western Front, The One, Tiny Dancer, High Flying Bird, Blues for my Baby & Me, Your Song, I've Seen that Movie Too and Healing Hands would be my top errr 12.
