  1. I don't care how little the teaser showed, it's Spielberg (who's stock is admittedly pretty low at this point, for him) and Abrams (who's stock is very, very high for me). I'm pumped.
  2. I thought for at least a couple of years that James Marsters and Alexis Denisof (Spike and Wesley on Buffy/Angel) were Brits, until I heard them in a DVD feature. Great accents. Almost got me wondering if Anthony Stewart Head was British too.
  3. Don't know if this has been mentioned yet: there will be a new trailer for Spielberg and JJ Abrams' Super 8 airing during the Super Bowl tomorrow night. Awesome!
  4. Just picked up the seasons 2 and 3 CDs of Galactia on Amazon to complete my collection from that show. Well, other than the release for Razor and The Plan, but I'm in no hurry for that one. The Doctor Who Series 5 set is officially released over here on Tuesday, probably be picking that one up quickly too.
  5. Yes, east and west Texas can sound totally different, as do New York and Boston. There's varying degrees of southern accents too, from Virginia to the Carolinas to the "deep south" (Georgia, Alabama, etc). Personally I've heard many an atrocious American accent on Beeb TV. It's like they're all just trying to curve and stretch their consonants out too much.
  6. I was into it the moment I first popped it into my CD player. The main theme is classic Goldsmith, and all the interesting layers he creates with the echoplex are just so compelling. Easily one of my favorites from him.
  7. TMP was the same year. But it's also a Botnick recording, while Alien was Tomlinson.
  8. Wow, that Twilight Princess stuff sounds awesome! Looking forward to the complete project.
  9. I might pick up Stu Phillips' Galactica if that's what it is. Appropriate too, since I'm finally picking up all of Bear McCreary's releases for the RDM version.
  10. Let us know what the extras are like, will you? I've been tempted by the DVDs in the past but have held off when it's so easy to just watch the (unedited) vids online.
  11. Speaking as one who has been an almost obsessively loyal accolyte of Tolkien for more than a quarter century--and has seen many would-be's come and go (most of them failing miserably)--I can tell you: believe it. Martin's land of Westeros may not have the historical depth of Middle Earth (whose does?), but in its immediate form it has all the richness and complexity of Lord of the Rings (perhaps even more). The characters are astonishing in their realization, the dialogue is more clever and sharp than anyone currently writing in the fantasy field, and the political and dynastic landscape is massive and beautifully textured in its execution. I'm not one to lightly pass the Tolkien mantle on to anyone else, but trust me: until you've read it, you're missing out. A ringing endorsement. When I get through my Christmas book backlog I'll seek it out.
  12. I've gone pretty much exclusively to Blu too. Doing a lot more Blu upgrades than I originally anticipated too.
  13. It's OK, pretty much on par with his recent output. I'm wondering if #100 will also be the last one.
  14. I've never been shy about purging my DVD collection. I'm always willing to sell stuff back I either don't care for anymore or don't think I'll really watch again to get new ones. And my TV collection still trumps my movie collection.
  15. Hopefully that's just the trailer and there'll be some good music in the show proper. The only HBO series I've really watched are John Adams and True Blood, both have good music. As I've said I've never read the books, but on par with Lord of the Rings? Difficult to believe.
  16. My latest Blu upgrade was Serenity, watched it last night. There's not much picture quality difference, but the sound is a HUGE improvement. Very nice.
  17. Tron: Legacy is a surprisingly good listen. I love the main theme.
  18. Jaws 2 is a very fun listen. It throws all the suspense and subtlety of the first score completely out the window and just goes for balls to the wall action. Jaws is Jaws. It wins.
  19. The new Spiderman is a Brit too (who once guested on Doctor Who, also as an American). I smell a trend.
  20. Might be an error on the press release, MV's last line on his FSM post is that they're not doing anything with The Omen.
  21. Oh wow. I just checked FB and David had posted the news there barely 6 minutes ago. Very sad news, another of the greats gone. RIP
