  1. I think they'd be worried about a dark, depressing film so soon after TFA went to such lengths to appeal to broad audiences. It could inadvertently hurt VIII if they end up following TFA with something "unexpected", as silly as it sounds. You know there'll be those parents dragging along their 5 year olds to see this, unaware of the depressing storyline, and simply because of the STAR WARS text on the poster. Everything in Hollywood is determined by focus groups and market forecasting these days. Oh yeah, and MERCHANDISE!
  2. The Force Theme makes perfect sense for the moment; more about Kylo Ren than Han Solo. The Dark Side takes over his senses and destroys what remained of the light side within him; the cue is a heartbreaking painting of the Force Theme literally being "Torn Apart" by the treachery of a son so lost in himself that he murders his own father. Not to mention the obvious connections to Luke and his failed Jedi training are coming into play here, as well. Alas, they probably found the cue unnecessarily overt for the moment, which is dramatic enough without the music needing to hit you over the head that you're witnessing a momentously tragic betrayal. It's Williams sinking back into prequel trilogy musical storytelling mode, when he spent the rest of the film supporting the drama rather than having to create it. They made the right decision, even if it's one hell of an unreleased cue.
  3. They've had some amazing directors over the years. I hope they pull a Breaking Bad and bring back their best directors over the journey to finish it off.
  4. The problem is they've been forced to milk the Sparrow storyline into a 2-3 season arc (I don't see it ending anytime soon). And Jonathan Pryce does a brilliant job portraying a smug, deceitful, hypocritical bastard... but there's only so much of these annoying characters you can endure before you want to stop watching them. A compliment to his performance, though. Considering the books haven't even gone this far (I believe the KL storyline in the books is stuck back where the show ended last season?), the writers probably realised they had nowhere to go if they wrapped up this storyline. It's probably a delaying tactic until Dany lands with her army, maybe at the end of season 7?
  5. I don't consider that confirmation at all. He's not involved in the show yet knows Guess we'll have to wait and see.
  6. It's probable that the binned AOTC UE formed the basis of those video game excerpts, considering the film edits are intact.
  7. Gotta wonder if this is merchandise related. The tone they were meant to be going for was very dark; maybe they're having cold feet now they've seen the film assembled? It didn't strike me as anything close to the more light-hearted "family friendly" adventures that comprise the Episode films. Especially when you have to assume the ending of this film is dark and depressing, based on how IV begins.
  8. Clickbait or is the film in trouble? Disney execs in a panic over upcoming Star Wars film. http://pagesix.com/2016/05/30/disney-execs-in-a-panic-over-upcoming-star-wars-film/
  9. I found the Deanerys stuff the weakest material of the episode. How many scenes do we need to see of Dani rallying troops with her dragon at her side? It's so... boring! And it really should not be, when you consider what you're looking at! I would much rather see more of Walder or Edmure or Benjen or Bran's flashbacks, etc. Nice to see a lot of loose ends being tied up though.
  10. I didn't realise Wanker had changed his name to Wander. I also didn't realise so many of the Kloser scores were actually co-collaborations between the two. I also quite like Wank..Wander's score for the Buffy TV series, so maybe this won't be the steaming pile of mediocrity I was expecting?
  11. Geez, the CGI aliens look awful. Terrible animation and really fake, smooth movement. Acting seems particularly wooden and Emmerich's shot blocking is pretty lazy. He's usually a bit more creative than this.
  12. Interiors looking much more Alien than Prometheus in this film. Looks like Scott is bridging the gap nicely. Exquisite use of colour and composition here, though hardly surprising with Scott at the helm.
  13. I think the refreshing part about the OST is that, unlike most of our fears anticipated, the score highlights are mostly all presented intact. No egregious microedits, no soaring fanfares left off. Barring The Resistance Arrives, all the highlights are here. A nice change from the prequel OSTs.
  14. You forgot "Main Title (Reprise)," which would replace the end titles with a jerky edit after The Jedi Steps, followed by another awkward segue into "Rey's Theme (Reprise)" which would actually be an alternate of The Scavenger.
  15. I think they played MOTR in minor key on piano in a Star Wars Oxygen podcast and it blew me away how versatile the theme is outside of full-blown march mode. I'm sure it'll be used cleverly in the next two films (as presumably the Resistance will come under heavy duress in VIII).
  16. I much prefer the woodwind friendly recording/arrangement in his Boston performance than the Dudamel conducted track on the OST. It's too heavy on the brass for my liking and really not suited to repeat listens (actually becomes a bit grating to my ears by the end, to be honest, because there's such little relief from the brass in the LA recording). I do hope there's an alternate mix of the recording in the vaults, with a heavier focus on the amazing woodwind work going on. It's almost inaudible as is on the OST but this must have been JW's intention. The Boston recording just has so much more aural relief and the orchestrations feel much more vibrant and rich. And I much prefer the faster tempo of Scherzo for XWings, but I think that's universal around here.
  17. A very tenacious fanboy snuck onto an exterior VIII set outside of London and took photos of himself wandering around. Mild spoilers in the link. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/star-wars-episode-8-on-set-images-reveal-millenniu/1100-6440080/?ftag=GSS-05-10aaa0a
  18. But that's the problem: his choice in projects. He's become very safe in his older age. There's nothing challenging about most of his projects these days, other than Montezuma (which appears to be stalled in development, despite being the most exciting film on his slate). It would nice to see him really pushing himself outside of his comfort box in the twilight of his and JW's career. Just look at the diversity of Scorsese's recent works, for example.
  19. I'd hoped the Umbers were playing a trick on Ramsay by delivering him Rickon (and that it wasn't really the direwolf's decapitated head), but Osha's murder and the Castle Black table discussion this episode about all the Northern houses allegiances seemed pretty cut and dry. They truly have pledged to House Bolton. Doesn't bode well for Rickon at all. Ramsay will not let him live if Jon Snow attempts to siege Winterfell.
  20. Well that's disappointing. I remember seeing Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as a kid and being scared to death of everything that happened to the kids. Grandpa Spielberg's so watered down when it comes to kids. First the walky talky disaster in ET, then the totally bloodless KOTCS. His films lack any edginess whatsoever; the only example bucking this trend in recent history (since Saving Private Ryan, nearly two decades ago) is Munich, which had some seriously disturbing imagery. Everything else has been at PG-13 saccharine levels of safe, and nothing on his upcoming schedule looks like breaking this trend. I certainly don't hold any hopes he'll rediscover his edgier, youthful self with Indiana Jones, despite the series' history of bloodthirsty violence and imaginative deaths.
  21. Do any kids get eaten in this film? I like my Spielberg children's fantasy films dark and relentless.
  22. I hope we get more scenes with Spock violently bashing people to death while screaming obscenities.
  23. Can anyone with recording software please record the broadcast, if at all possible? It's in the middle of the night in Australian time and I need to sleep! ?
