  1. It's a great stand-alone piece of music, for sure.
  2. There is an album on Spotify of this score. It is however not the Goldsmith recording. It's in low quality, and includes "alternate takes"... are these the actual recording sessions? Definitely sounds like it might be. Ok I see that it is an Intrada release of the original sessions. Didn't know that existed, very neat!
  3. Hey Sharky, take a listen to First Ideas from Frost/Nixon. What do you make of those harmonies starting at about 6:50?
  4. Yeah, and thanks to Koray for bringing it to my attention. Winter's Tale - Hans Zimmer, Rupert Gregson-Williams This is a truly lovely score, one that I think a lot of people here would enjoy.
  5. Sphere - Elliot Goldenthal The Abyss - Alan Silvestri Contact - Alan Silvestri Frost/Nixon - Hans Zimmer The House of the Spirits - Hans Zimmer
  6. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - Jules Verne As my wife said, this may have been the 20,000th time I've read it, but it remains one of my favorite books ever. Very rich in atmosphere.
  7. It should be required viewing for anyone remotely interested in film.
  8. I encountered that piece at a live performance during my school days. It was one of the first times that I felt a genuine connection with a composer, that he was speaking the same language as me. Wonderful stuff.
  9. Me! But in the way of more useful answers, check out Dutilleux, Messiaen, Takemitsu... basically anyone carrying the Debussyan tradition into the mid 20th century. They don't have the same level of outright tonal excursions that CE3K has, but it's all in a similar vein.
  10. I work the corners on weekends to fund my complete Williams discography. I once had to hire a hitman to get me back my CE3K vinyl which I had lost in a cocaine deal that went south. That very same vinyl has become mine and my wife's sex album, to the point where I can't get it up if The Mothership isn't playing.
  11. I agree, but I think it still holds a lot of significance, now sharing it with some other stuff (AI).
  12. So much skirting of the politics banning rule lately, and by the administrative staff to boot.
  13. You know I felt the same way, couldn't think of anyone for that reason. But Jennifer Lopez... spot on.
  14. Took me hours to decipher that. And it's barely an answer... it's not even correctly capitalised.Correct capitalization is below him.
  15. Yeah? Usually those piano cover albums are... irrelevant at best.
  16. Anyone who pontificates about politics during award acceptance speeches.
  17. Lindberg is, well, an acquired taste. I've only acquired about 25% thus far.
  18. We're making homemade meatballs and ravioli tonight. Maybe some bread too, to celebrate what is hopefully one of the last truly cold days until November.
  19. I don't think it has any bearing on who gets the award, it's just a little publicity thing, as a way to sort of "get to know" the nominees. Harmless.
  20. Indian food, at least what you can get in New York, is awful. It's just bland food soaked in chemical-strength spice, that metallic shit instead of a genuinely flavorful heat. It's crap.
