  1. More McCreary news, well hints at news. He appears and sounds to be working on the upcoming Stephen King / JJ Abrams series Castle Rock on Hulu. I wonder if the music used in the teaser is the actual music for the main title and will Bear just score the main title, or the actual series as well. Either way, sounds like a pretty cool project to me.
  2. I like both The Boy and The Forest soundtracks fine, though I can't say I've listened to them more than 3 times each since their releases. I've only seen The Boy out of those two and as Bloodboal aludes to, it kinda goes a bit off the rails. There certainly is a freshness to this Animal Crackers clip I posted above. New genre, new exciting possibilities. On the occasion of McCreary's 38th birthday the bromance with Austin Wintory continues:
  3. I only knew Hatch from the new BSG but his character certainly leaves a strong impression. Bear McCreary wrote a tribute blog on his website. http://www.bearmccreary.com/#blog/blog/battlestar-galactica-3/remembering-richard-hatch/ Hatch comes across as a generous, endearing fellow. R.I.P.
  4. Geoff Johns is the daddy now and he is going to turn it all around. Believe me!
  5. The studio behind the new God of War game has made the live performance from last year's announcement available for download as an mp3. Pretty cool. Bear has 3 films appearing at Sundance this year. Colossal, Rebel in the Rye and the documentary Unrest. Unrest is the only one of these 'in competition'. Also on the horizon for this year are Animal Crackers and Revolt. Really exciting to see him finally diving into film scores in a big way. 10 Cloverfield Lane was one of my favourite scores from last year so I'm looking forward to seeing what he can come up with in these projects.
  6. Maybe one day they will make it to the JWFan forums. Think of the post count possibilities!
  7. Count me in. Don't think any of his ballet work has ever been released. This will certainly be fresh to my ears. Hopefully they can drum up enough interest to encourage plenty of music from the Kamen vaults to be released!
  8. Amerika - Basil Poledouris Picked this up on a whim. Doesn't disappoint. Only really know Basil from his bigger film scores (Conan, Robocop, Starship Troopers) but this is a fantastic surprise. Plenty more exploring to do through his discography.
  9. It's certainly one of his best. Powerful stuff. Highlander and Brazil are truly up there for me. The re-imagining of the exisiting song for Brazil was truly brilliant. Hauntingly so. A few interesting tweets from the last week. A proper Highlander release would be fantastic. They've been talking about it for so long. I have no interest in The Avengers old or new but I would of course still be interested in what Kamen did do for the 1998 movie.
  10. I belive this is from a legit twitter account. Not many followers though. It may be of interest to some here who frequent the twitterverse. Highlander and Prince of Thieves are probably the most frequently requested over the years. I would also like a From the Earth to the Moon set. I know LLL were hinting at X-Men, it feels like a long time since we've had some new Kamen.
  11. Had two spins of TLW now. Like a lot of people it's not a film or score I know well but I'm liking what I'm hearing. Johnny's unused faster end credits is kinda weird but in a fun, infectious way! All in all a great release for sure.
  12. I was the 2nd to order and I received mine today in the UK! JP sounds fantastic! TLW will have to wait until tomorrow!
  13. These Outlander albums continue to sell well with the latest album following on from the other two in making the Billboard Top 200, charting at #122, also #4 in the Soundtracks chart. Development of the same themes through long-form narrative television is incredibly satisfying. I don't get how somone would be satisifed with a highlight or write off subsequent season's developments as re-threads. Thankfully we are getting a good deal of the music and hopefully will continue to do so!
  14. Two listens in. I'd recommend the whole thing but my early favourites are: 2. Leave the Past Behind 5. Into Paris 10. Faith 12. Je Suis Prest 13. 125 Yards 17. Moch Sa Mhadainn 18. White Roses of Scotland 21. Destiny on Culloden Moor 22. A Fraser Officer Survived
  15. Outlander Season 2 soundtrack out today! I shall be listening now. http://www.bearmccreary.com/#blog/blog/albums/outlander-season-2-soundtrack/
  16. Finally finished purchasing all of the New York Rock & Roll Ensemble CDs, going together nicely with Michael Kamen's subsequent solo effort, aptly titled New York Rock. This band was really good. They drop in some Bach, a Hendrix cover, a cover of A Whiter Shade of Pale but the bulk of the material is their own version of 60's Rock and is really strong and enjoyable. It really is an ensemble that shares both the songwriting and lead vocal duties but Kamen fans will enjoy the fact that Kamen is the most prolific in both categories. Of particular note to film score fans is the fact that not just one but two notable composers came from the band. Mark Snow, then known as Martin Fulterman played both Drums and Oboe in the band as well as taking on his share of the songwriting. One fascinating writing collaboration between Fulterman and Kamen was the song Beside You, sung by Kamen. This was later brought back to life for the Kamen-scored film What Dreams May Come, this time with a new vocal by Mick Hucknell. Film score fans may also recognise both the name and sax-playing of David Sanborn on Kamen's solo album. They would later notably collaborate on the Lethal Weapon scores as well as on a saxophone concerto. Kamen fans check this stuff out if you haven't already!
  17. I'm game if you can't find anyone more qualified. Full disclosure: Never been to a film music or live to projection concert. No article writing experience. No musical education. Although I like the score (I have and enjoy the LLL expansion) and film (watched many times on VHS as a kid) I wouldn't really be an expert on either.
  18. I remember you offering your ticket for this. Did you manage to find a taker for the ticket in the end? Such a shame you didn't get to go. They are doing Titanic again at the Royal Albert Hall next year, although obviously without Horner in attendance this time.
  19. Yes, it was a pleasant surprise to hear the Band of Brothers theme when I first heard this album! Listening to this makes me realise that I would love to hear Kamen's music live. I think he would have thrived in the current boom of live film music/composer shows.
  20. The New Moon in the Old Moon's Arms - Michael Kamen Gets better every time. I love both of the pieces on this album. What a guy.
  21. 10 Cloverfield Lane was for sure his best film score so far! This 'God of War' overture I posted earlier is growing on me. I must be on around 10 plays already. Bear talks about the project in his latest blog post http://www.bearmccreary.com/#blog/blog/video-games/god-of-war-at-e3/ and explains that after the overture he conducted the live orchestra to accompany the guy playing the demo live for the crowd. How cool is that? As seen here.
  22. Bear at E3 playing the new theme for the upcoming God of War game. Don't know anything about the series or how this compares to previous soundtracks but I like what I hear. Must of had the chanting choir on retainer from Damien.
