  1. All right, calm down. My skim of the posts told me that the stuff about Star Wars pre-him being there was mainly peripheral. So I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. But it did seem to me that he was lumping the prequels in with "the rise." That was what I meant by spoilers, yes. The TFA making of was supposed to come out until a few months after TFA was released anyway. I only hope that they just wanted to put some distance between the production and the "tell all," as it were. Hard to believe the book ever would have spilled any dirt so soon after (haven't read the ROTS making of but I can't imagine it being nearly as open and honest as the OT ones, for instance). Hopefully we'll get a proper book of it someday down the line. 100%, when you realize that Star Wars is basically more popular now than it ever was before. Of course some will counter that that's because it sold out or whatever but I call bullshit. Star Wars has always been about making money, even when it was under Lucas. At least the movies are good again.
  2. Just because a track sounds a lot like another track doesn't mean that other track was originally temp music. And just because a track sounds nothing like anything else doesn't mean there wasn't originally temp music there.
  3. If you consider his timeframe (2001-2015), the prequel trilogy is actually what he's calling "The Rise." So........ yeah.....
  4. Guy's done a service with his Making of books, amongst other things, but this reeks of petty whining. I'd be curious to see if any actually interesting BTS stuff comes out (though I tend to think that TFA book was scrapped because of spoilers), but otherwise I couldn't care less about "The Fall of Star Wars." That's just some melodramatic asshattery which I can't help but find pretty obnoxious.
  5. I'm gonna be real disappointed if the 60's theme isn't used throughout the movie. It's a great melody (that is very Spider-Man-y, unlike the Horner and Zimmer efforts). and Giacchino killed it in the he posted.
  6. Probably the one memorable part of this score for me is the final cue before the credits roll (looks like the track called "Between Life and Death"), because I can't recall another time I've been able to tell on first viewing what temp tracks were initially used, but this scene was definitely temp tracked with Zimmer's "A Watchful Guardian," which is obvious for a couple of reasons, but mostly because Tyler basically just does a rip-off.
  7. I saw The Mummy too, a bit back. Considerably worse than all three of those as a film (I quite liked all of those, didn't care much at all for Mummy), score-wise probably the least too, though not too much so as they're all kinda on the generic side (WW had its moments though).
  8. As a soundtrack: Star Wars As a score: Star Wars As a score in the film: Star Wars As a film: Star Wars They're all great, but nothing will ever beat the classic. Best score/film of all time, in my opinion.
  9. Williams 1. Star Wars 2. Empire Strikes Back 3. E.T. Herrmann 1. Vertigo 2. Taxi Driver 3. probably a four way tie but let's just say North By Northwest for now Morricone 1. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly 2. The Thing 3. Cinema Paradiso Kinda surprised by all the Horner love. Not certain he'd even make my top ten.
  10. Surprised no one's mentioned Planet of the Apes. That's my pick anyway.
  11. Exactly! Well said. Always the first moment that comes to mind when I think of that score - it sticks in your head throughout the film even when Kane and Herrmann have moved on so far from it.
  12. From what I understand the unreleased TFA suite material is just the full "Jedi Steps" and the "Finale" ending variation, right? Is there anything in "Rey's Theme," "March of the Resistance," "Scherzo for X-Wings," and the "Finale" (otherwise) that isn't already covered by the OST? EDIT: Or wait just realized maybe I'm dumb and you're just talking about the fact that the five TFA tracks make up the overall TFA suite (rather than there being material not included on the OST).
  13. Ahhh! Yes, perfect! __ Meanwhile my little sister just sent me video of her high school band playing the TFA Finale. If only they were that cool when I was there...
  14. I need a quality recording of the Jedi Steps concert suite in my life.
  15. What makes you think that's not the case? Johnson specifically mentioned his music editor. The situation seems very clear to me. Edit the film, then add temp to get a feel for the film when watching it. Remove temp, have JW watch and write his own score. What about this all is so hard for people to believe? For me it's the only scenario that makes any sense.
  16. Well I'm not sure if there's anything like "Chase Through Coruscant" in the rest of the PT either. What about Jabba Flow and Dobra Doompa? I know they weren't JW, but still. Makes me wonder if there'll be any source music in TLJ, and, if so, will JW score it himself.
  17. There'd be very little reason to show JW the film with the temp score if it's 95% SW music (and 100% JW music). In that case, the temp score is more likely to just be a placeholder that helps Rian, the editors, producers, and whoever get a sense of what the film will feel like when it's completely scored, rather than as a guideline for JW as to what the score should sound like (like for the original SW).
  18. I think it sounds like it's own thing, different than the OT and PT but still definitely SW. A great score.
