  1. I have the CD, i refuse to play it....YOU CAN´T MAKE ME...NOOO...NOOO!!! Well, you should try to listen to it again... To me, Goldeneye is a real tragedy. I do not speak about musical quality, but about the mix: the music is far TOOO LOOWWW ! This is the best example (with SWII: AOTC) of very bad mix: the producer shouldn't allow that to happen. it's pretty weird indeed, but innovative, and very entertaining. Yes, it has is flow, such as repetitive themes (no variations, no developpment) but has also very beautiful moments, such as the track "Ladies first" ( with a comical touch). The score stands also for its very moving love theme, quoted in "The Severnaya Suite". "Pleasent Drive In St. Petersburg" is a fast paced track with electronical intrusions that makes it very effective (btw, in the film, the producers have replaced this original music by old john barry's james bond theme music: this is also a shame for a composer !) Imo, certainly not the best bond score, but a very interesting attempt to innovate after 30 years of the same bond music. Arnold will then return to a more licensed music (i love tomorrow never dies).
  2. There's also William Byrd, and his famous masses. Joe, i love your last post and I do agree with you (although i may not have formulated it this way ) Philippe BL - who's going to listen to Olympic Fanfare in a minute
  3. hum... that so... that explains some "gregson-williams" touch I felt when seeing the movie... I'm rather glad to see that my ear doesn't fail me.
  4. Just saw the film yesterday. And during all the film, I was thinking: "hum... I seem to recognize the composer... a bit like goldsmith, the colors of the strings and the horns) but with a kind of melodic gregson-williams touch... ) And finaly in the end credits, I get to know that "Klaus Badelt" composed it and that "Valery Gergiev" conducted the orchestra ! I wonder what do you think about this score ? Ocelot, do you know the composer, or did you heard of him ?
  5. Images without doubt (The Killing of Marcel.... arghghgh... arrhh... ahh.... ah) wonderful
  6. I never went through one commentary track from the director, but sometimes, the producer includes a commentary track from the composer (that is very rare indeed, but that was done by Bruno Coulais in "Les Rivieres Pourpres". It was very interessting) Philippe - hoping that we'll have a JW commentary track ! (yeah...)
  7. It only takes a lot of training, and can take some time also reading the score
  8. Erik, I was going to reply to your interessting post... I wrote a rather long answer, with quotations and all... that took me almost 30 minutes to find that when I clicked the submit button, it showed me "invalid session".... arghghghghghgh I have to do it again... I'll do it tomorrow, it's 2:00 am here... but this conversation has made me find some links in the Indy's trilogy motiv... I'll try to rewrite this tomorrow. Sorry...
  9. Thank you !! I'm not the only one hear that thinks that Shore's music is simply not appropriate, too shmulsy at some point, too heroic, too boring, too easy, well, it's too much, as for some of the acting, the directing, the photography.... well, I do like some moments of the film, don't get me wrong... but it doesn't balance the fact that I felt embarassed during all the movie.
  10. You're right Kevin, this moment is just so wonderful... this redemption is Star Wars for me. This is what it's all about. And Williams with the us of the theme of the Force played by the trombones with the strings surrounding it and then the male chorus, and the solo ending with a rendition of the force theme at the harp... this is magical. Erik, you're wrong. This motiv can also be heard when Lando comes out of the death star: we can hear this motiv, with an intervallic mutation at the end, played twice as fast. You can compare it on the SE released of Return of the Jedi, - Sail barge: Disc 1, track 7 at 5:02 - Death Star: Disc 2, track 8 at 5:32 Philippe - who has to the Star Wars score a long time ago...
  11. What do you mean ? It was a really great movie, and it worked very well in Europe.
  12. I was so mad when i knew that it was goldenthal instead of Uematsu that was gonna make the score... too bad, we could have had the first movie score from him...
  13. TSHTFan. Neil Hum .... Philippe, still searching...
  14. I assume it's a kind of great catastroph, like the "Egyptian scourge" with all the grasshoppers flying through the air (ref. the Bible) or Stefan monopolizing the JW message board Run, everybody, Run !!! Philippe - who doesn't know what "scour" means.
  15. hehe: Zelda 3 for SNES A link to the past , and the dark theme is also one of my favourite Koji Kondo has also done a wonderful job on Ocarina of the Past (even if the original Zelda theme doesn't show up one in the game ) Scissorshand, do you remember our discussion about Nobuo Uematsu ? That was the first thing I recorded with my orchestra (Final Fantasy VI), even before the imperial march The Album Reunion Tracks is quite good indeed... but do you know FF6 score ? imho, the best of all the series. The thematic link between the different themes are so strong, the melodies so dramaticaly powerful, the suspens also very catching. I was expecting you to say that ! LOL Michael Land was wonderful on that album, also on The Dig (original scenario by Steven Spielberg). Ricard, you should move this thread on the other topic board.
  16. Welcome to this board Hpfan swfan, hpfan, jwfan, what's up next ? cmiycfan ?
  17. How can you say that opinion doesn't matter to anyone ? If you really think so and claims it as it was a word of god, you're the one that has an inflated sense of self. A lot of people here do care about other's opinion as I do; it's indeed a way to see another point of view over things. And it's this exchange of ideas that i find interessting, and not only concerning musical and cinematographical matters. How can you generalize like that when you don't know what you're talking about ? Even if you think this sarcastic metaphor was funny, you don't know what "veteran" means and you don't know the people you're attacking. I do like participating in this board and discussing with people, but not they behave like you did. 8O That is too easy to withdraw from your attack like that. I feel concerned about what you said, not only for myself, but also for the other personns of this board.
  18. Hey, if it begins with a 20, thats good enough for me No Duke, the 21th century begins at year 2001.
  19. absolut correct answer, even the tricky N°9 which is indeed no original score, but only an adaption !! You're truly amazing Neil
  20. My god, I'm trying about dozens of films names.... Bottle of the F****** Jedi only comes to mind... (ahhh... after 2 more minutes, I finally got it lol) That tends me to create a game... If everyone can pick up these John Williams' scored films titles... then... euh... then he wins... 1. RotLA: 2. EotS: 3. tMB: 4. S'sL: 5. CEotTK: 6. TMWLCD 7. IJatLC: 8. HA2:LiN-Y: 9. FotR: 10. 21. If you find a VHS about this, I sure would like to buy it also. Here are the references, Marian: The Art of Conducting Legendary Conductors of a golden Era Sergiu Celibidache Radio Sinfonie Orchester Stuttgart 1964
  22. I got both of those DVDs, and there are true Jewels. Yep, it is indeed incredible, but it's only like 30 seconds to one minute... If you like conductors, then you should ABSOLUTLY buy a new brillant DVD about Carlos Kleiber, in rehearsal and performance. A must have for anyone who loves conducting, or waving hands (hey no kidding, that's the way I've begun to love conducting...)
  23. YOU*DON'T*KNOW*WHAT*YOU*ARE*TALKING*ABOUT. Sorry. I'll second that. I've always seen (and known by heart) the original SW trilogy on TV and had bought the original edition on VHS... but when I had to see the Special Edition on the big screen ! It was a HUGE blast, from the very FIRST SECOND: all the people in the cinema were thrilled, you could sense it ! Even if all can be said about the SE (and I'm an original SW edition fan), this was such a huge experience (I when to see the films on the theater about 5 times each !) I wish I could see them again on the big screen... It was the same for E.T. (oh my god... I cried... like 10 times more than in front of my TV set when I was 7/8)... I guess some movies are meant to move, or seduce someone at a point of his life (Pinocchio, Batman, E.T., The Hours, Amélie Poulain, Schindler's List....) and even old movies can touch someone (if this personn isn't so demanding concerning the quality of the screen and the sound... It happened to me several times with old films...
