  1. Oh man, me too! 30 plus years and that's still Superman's music... it gave me chills. That's long-lasting influence right there. Smallville used to be one of my favorite shows when it began, but I stopped watching it somewhere around the 5th season. I had to watch the finale though and what a great way to end it!
  2. Indeed, haha. It was 1997, so I suppose the synth-y quality of it is more noticeable now than it was then. Still, that was quite a surprise, and it feels so misplaced when you think that the subject matter is a ship that sank in 1912. I had no idea, hehe. Oh well. Maybe I can think of it as getting what I paid for?
  3. This question needs some introduction. I've never listened to the Titanic soundtrack. Ever. I saw the film once in theaters when it came out and never saw it again. I never owned the soundtrack and never really payed any attention to the film's music. Until a couple of days ago when I saw the soundtrack in a bargain bin for $1 and thought "why the hell not?". I get home, put the CD in and... WTF??? Did Horner really use shitty synth choirs in it? Or did I get a fake version of the score? Why? Wouldn't the back-then most expensive movie ever made have enough money to hire a choir? Did he do this on purpose or where they really trying to cut corners? I'm so confused.
  4. I hear ya, buddy. I feel the exact same way. I still can't get over how much praise the score is getting (and memories of that horrid "arrangement" of Grieg's piece will haunt my dreams forever). I'll wait and see because it's true, Reznor and Ross could end up writing a masterpiece. I'll believe it when I hear it though. Scala. Meaning?
  5. With all due respect: Rubbish. Movies (and any other story-telling medium, for that matter) are filled with characters who are idiots, and who we'd punch in the face if they were real. This happens all the time, and yet we cheer for them anyway, so this doesn't make for a very strong point. To me, the fascinating thing about the movie's ending is that it managed to do exactly what it's characters were trying to do. Nolan basically did "inception" to all of us. With that ending, he planted a basic idea in our minds and we ran with it like crazy. After six months we're still talking about it.
  6. It still baffles me that Social Network is getting that much attention for its music, and even though I shouldn't, I'll be pissed if it wins. But what do I know? Santaolalla won twice. And I agree with anyone who thinks HTTYD was the best of the year. Great fun and technically impressive. I still get shivers everytime I watch the "Test Drive" scene. Absolutely fantastic.
  7. I have a question and since I haven't seen a related thread, I'll ask it here: Is anybody else sad that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are writing the score for Fincher's "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"?
  8. Has anyone mentioned "The Strangers" ? I thought it was good. I watched it alone at home one night, and was not very happy afterwards, hehe.
  9. Holy... So... James Cameron is producing Del Toro's take on "At The Mountains Of Madness" and apparently this will be Del Toro's next film
  10. So... Spielberg starts shooting War Horse this Monday? When's Tintin coming out again? Does this mean we might be getting something from Johnny soon?
  11. I forgot what thread I was in when I started to watch that video, and having never seen the movie yet, believe I've completely ruined it for myself. My apologies, but I thought this thread was clearly marked as a "spoilers allowed" one. And regarding what they did with the music... fantastic idea. I'm always in the middle regarding Zimmer. I'm not a lover nor a hater, but this clearly makes him a cooler dude in my book, if it was him indeed that came up with this idea.
  12. A friend of mine just shared on Facebook. Cool. Most definitely cool.
  13. The second short film I'm working on is called "Shifting Lives" and I just uploaded two short clips of the upcoming soundtrack that I'm currently composing! You can listen to it here!
  14. A few months ago I had scored this über low-budget little film for a young director from California, I posted the link here back then and now, the soundtrack is available for streaming right here if you guys wanted to listen to it Cheers!
  15. Have you guys seen this? If you have, my apologies for reposting it. I thought it sounded quite nice.
  16. Ah, I see. Thanks for pointing those out
  17. Does any of you watch Castle regularly? Last week's episode involved a dead archaeologist and there was a really nice nod to Raiders and to the Ark itself in the music.
  18. So, Armostrong did write a score and it was rejected? I was really looking forward to it, as I enjoy his writing and I thought he did a nice job with Incredible Hulk. Now I'm reading reviews of the movie and they all say that Djawadi's music, um, sucks, and I'm like: When did this happen? Where's Armstrong? Goddamit.
  19. I thought for the longest time that it was Craig Armstrong who was doing it. Did I just dream that? WTF?
  20. I got it today and I've had it on repeat all day. What a lovely, lovely score.
  21. Thank you! I'm quite happy with the result considering that we're both first-timers (it's the first short by the director as well) I used Sonar 8 PE as my main sequencer, EWQl Symphonic Orchestra Gold, Symphobia and some Stormdrum. Very glad that you enjoyed it Thank you I'm happy you enjoyed it!
  22. Thank you for your comments! And I'm so glad you noticed the similarity with Williams, as that was exactly the intention. The director kept talking about how he would love the music to sound like something out of Raiders or other Indiana Jones movie. So I guess that worked then. Also, since you mentioned the percussion part, I was actually thinking of "Zam The Assassin / The Chase Through Coruscant" from attack of the clones So not too far off there ; And the over scoring thing... great! That was also the plan from the beginning, to have the music be very over the top. Since the movie was made with no budget (and you can tell) then we decided that the music should be as over the top as possible, to kinda balance that part, hehe Thanks again
  23. Hello Fellow JWFans! As the title of the topic says, I just finished scoring my very first short film for a filmmaker friend of mine. I'd like to share it with you because it's my first one, and well, I'm quite excited about it. The is called Bible Thumpers and you can find it here The password to access it: JesusChrist Don't worry, it's not really a religious movie, despite it's title, hehe. Anyways, I'll let you guys watch it and if you're interested and have questions, comments or simply want to tear me and my music to pieces, I'd love to talk more about it. Cheers! Derlis A. González
  24. I guess I just found it funny how the guy didn't even try to hide it. Oh well...
  25. I just stumbled upon Can you hear what I hear?
