  1. Indeed. Though I must say I am listening to Alice for the first time right now, and am finding it absolutely captivating. Haven't seen the movie yet, though...
  2. I don't have any idea. But I thought that maybe with the popularity of Hulu and such, they might this time. I don't know if they have in the past, though.
  3. Do you suppose they will put the ceremonies up online afterwards? I don't think I will be able to watch live.
  4. Jack has been my favorite since the beginning. Annoying at times, thick-headed, one of the only ones without constant ulterior motives, and I feel like most consistently has the best of the group in mind. Especially in the beginning he was very good, as he was trying to make very, very hard decisions with virtually no info, and it was great to watch. But even still, I feel like it is the same person, though without people to lead, or exterior stuff the 'fix,' which kind of highlights what I think his ex-wife said quite a while ago that he just always needs something to fix. Without that, he can admittedly sometimes appear pretty think-headed. But I still feel like he comes across as a believable and even interesting character.
  5. Going into this season, I really was not sure how in the world they were going to pull it off. I am still not. The thing is, Lost is largely built off of not know what is going on, and if they start explaining things right and left at this point, I think that it would turn the show into something completely different. But of course, in order to satisfy their fans, they will have to answer a lot of questions, I am just not sure that the show would feel right at all if this season had started answering questions already. I think with the nature of the show, you can expect the finale to answer quite a few big questions, but I think that there just plain needs to be a lot left unanswered. And I'll be happy with that.
  6. Finally caught up on Lost. I started watching it, from the first season, toward the end of last year, and was able to catch up for the second week of the final season. I kept looking at this thread, but restraining myself, knowing it must be full of spoilers, but now I have been reading through old posts, and laughing at people's speculation of what was going on, and what would happen. So many wrong theories floating around. It's what Lost is all about, and kinda fun to read. Anyways, just watched the new episode, and I must say, the cliff-hangers are WAY more effective when you don't have the next episode right at your finger-tips Overall, I thought it was a very good episode. When I first heard that they were going to try to make season 6 more like season 1, I was very excited, because that is by far my favorite season so far. When I saw LA X 1 and 2, I was a little disappointed, as I realized what exactly they meant by like it, and I was hoping for something a little more character and suspense driven and less sci-fi. But, after watching this one, and seeing a little further progression with the new form of 'flash back', I am starting to get very excited again. This season could, indeed, raise the show back to the level of the first season, though in a different way. So anyways, I'm very happy to be all caught up and able to take part in the Lost discussions.
  7. Except that that is really a pretty good example, as I heard the song long before I saw the movie, and when I saw it, I thought, "Oh, that's where that came from."
  8. "Cloverfield", anyone? Not that I think it is the best, I am just surprised it hasn't come up yet. For me, I think it would also have to be "Breaking of the Fellowship" from FotR. So. So. Beautiful.
  9. Avatar by a mile. I love Giacchino's work, but Star Trek is not one of his better efforts, and Avater really seems like a mature piece of music. Horner really knows what he is doing, especially with orchestration, and it comes through in the finished project, redundant though it may be.
  10. Score of the Year: Up! Album of the Year: Avatar Album of the Year: I don't know Composer of the Year: Michael Giacchino Label of the Year: I don't know Cue of the Year: Seizing The Spirit Of Adventure
  11. FI-NA-LE! FI-NA-LE! FI-NA-LE! Had this discussion a lot. My conservatory basically made the switch all the way to Sibelius last year, I think. Which is kind of sad. But I have used both, and I feel like Finale has more flexibility, though I am certainly no expert in either.
  12. I would have to go with Zimmer/Gladiator for most influential. Regardless of whether or not you like it, I can think of no other really defining work after which so much has been modeled. Shore had his moment with LOTR (and a fabulous moment at that), but it really has not been very mimicked. Even Narnia, which was largely faulted for trying to capitalize on LOTR's success, used music in no way like LOTR. In fact, I think I remember HGW saying in an interview, about the LOTR scores, "I don't really remember them. Didn't he use a lot of brass?", which really makes me laugh. A lot. So anyway, yep, I would have to go with Zimmer. PS. After John Barry, of course....
  13. Ha! Me too. Started work on it, actually. But I haven't done anything more on it recently.
  14. It's one of my Giacchino favourites. And I adore the song. Yeah, I really prefer this one even to the popular Incredibles.
  15. The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly by Ennio Morricone. Finally got this score, and wowee. Awesome.
  16. Whoa! Is Miguel actually back? When did this happen? AWESOME!!!
  17. Tough. Very tough. I would say: Jurassic Park Empire Raiders Temple of Doom Superman E. T. Jurassic Park Jurassic Park Jurassic Park And maybe Hook
  18. Appalachian Spring, Letter From Home, Danzon Cubano, Lincoln Portrait, Symphony #3, Concerto for Clarinet, Strings, and Piano all composed and conducted by Aaron Copland. Pretty cools stuff, here. This has finished up my listen through the 3 CD set of Copland's earlier works that I recently got, and I must say, it is a journey worth taking. Really great and enjoyable music.
  19. Didn't the popularity of "The Planets" kind of bother Holst and scare him off from writing anything like that again? I think I read that somewhere. Very curious figure.
  20. Um, I watched it many years ago....and was very disturbed by the bug in the ear thing. That's about all I remember....
