  1. Andromeda was more than patient with his frivolous overuse of the transporter. I expected her to get up and say “Bollocks! Materialize them yourself, wanker!”
  2. Wow! This one sounds right up my alley after reading a few reviews. Sounds like a campy horror comedy with late era Hammer sensibilities. I will look forward to your review. Definitely adding this to my list!
  3. It made it as far as a children’s book and record and the comic book adaptation. But not sure it was filmed either.
  4. Or in other words, Anything Goes. Truly, two simple words that sum up this perfect epic of entertaining mayhem, never to be taken as seriously as its predecessor. Critics often use the phrase “Roller Coaster Ride” metaphorically, and I’d argue that if it didn’t begin with Temple of Doom, there’s no better film that fits that description. Literally.
  5. One thing about the newspaper clippings, the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. There was no inclination toward the negativity that somehow emerged in the internet era.
  6. My favorite Indiana Jones movie. I had the foldout poster magazine, I had the Marvel adaptation, and I got the collectors edition movie program when I saw it opening day. Here are the original newspaper clippings I've saved from over the years (there's some Raiders in there too) I remember my sister had a job at the local (brand new) multiplex theater, so she saw everything back then. She hated the stuff I was into, mostly Spielberg and Lucas stuff. I remember opening up the poster mag to the gatefold image of Indy on the rope bridge surrounded on both sides, and even my sister admitted "Yeah, I gotta admit that was pretty cool". High praise from her back then. I wear a fedora daily. It is based on Temple of Doom style, and has an image of the 3 Sankara stones inside the sweatband, with the inscription "Fortune and Glory" I'll watch it again.
  7. I listened to the first presentation of the score and skipped around the alternates, enough to know it isn’t the motivic, well orchestrated Kamen I enjoy.
  8. I gave it a listen, and sadly, I won't be purchasing. It's not for me. Kamen deserves better. It's a shame, because the Logan/Rogue theme is lovely. It's the only music I recall from the film. It has some shared colors with the Mary Jane love theme from Elfman's Spider-Man, the melancholy we-should-but-can't-be-together sort of theme. But I would never listen to the full thing again.
  9. @Amer I adore those old TOS Varese recordings. And nice pickup on the TMP set. It’s an awesome presentation.
  10. It is such a dense score, like a lot of North I've heard. So much to chew on. He can be challenging in a way, because he doesn't conform to what is expected. But he has a way of surprising your ears with unexpected instrumentation and colors. I really need to check out the Agony and the Ecstasy.
  11. Yep, I saw that. I hope the ink on the contract is drying. This is terrific news!
  12. Need the deluxe Blu Ray, but waiting for a US distributor. These will be more available, right?
  13. Maybe because by then, after two films, you saw the pattern, knew the conventions, and as a kid, you were so hyped for the outcome to the ESB cliffhanger, your brain was recording the experience differently. Nevertheless I do agree with you, and you articulated it well. It does capture the essence of the experience somehow. Whether that’s inherently the score (nature) or our childhood responses (nurture), I’m not sure.
  14. How about Thin Red Line? Have you heard it? It has a good reputation and I’m currently force feeding it to myself to decide if I want the LLL CD. 10 tracks in and I’m wondering why the good reputation. The one time Zimmer ever got my attention was in WW84. The early scenes in the Mall were sort of jubilant heroic fun. Williams has it covered. Between Private Ryan, Schindler, Empire of the Sun, Midway, Indiana Jones, Amazing Stories - The Mission, None But the Brave, and yes 1941, he left no facet of the war unscored.
  15. I couldn’t agree more. Probably was a combination of shots being more expensive and time consuming to set up and a desire to streamline the process for efficiency, cost, and comfort of the crew and actors. They found their safe groove, but in some ways it got boring. I actually really enjoy the early TNG seasons for the reasons you mentioned and for the livelier scoring as well.
  16. This is back in stock at LLL. I don't know if I want to buy a copy of the CDs. I started sampling to it on headphones while cooking. Got to track 10 Staros Refuses Order. I'm not convinced. Do I need to keep going? Is there a certain point where it does something different?
  17. Possibly! “I want to keep learning and discovering and scaring the shit out of myself, and sometimes the shit out of you,” Spielberg added. “I gotta get back to some of those earlier scarier movies, but that’s another story for later on.” Berlin 2023 Lifetime Achievement Speech
  18. I think Aliens is a fair guess, since they let that go OOP. Edit: hmm I guess that was temporary. It’s back in stock. Wasn’t it on a low quantities list a few months ago?
  19. Steven Spielberg will be making a UFO movie based on an original idea with a David Koepp script. (Variety) Will this bring Johnny back to the scoring stage?
  20. I did buy it yesterday!! Alright it was last month, but still I haven’t even spun it yet, so if it’s Starship Troopers, you’re all welcome.
  21. This just came back in stock. I saw the movie ages ago, but don’t remember the music. Kamen can be wonderful (Robin Hood, Baron Munchausen) but other times leaves me cold. Anyone else besides Karol have thoughts on this? His review gives a rather bleak or sterile impression.
