  1. Ouch...talk about second fiddle! I'm sure he was none-to happy to find out his ex was now Mahler's wife! But yeah, if anyone would like to basically hear "Batman"...go to the finale of part one in the Gurre-Lieder. At minute 11, it really starts. It's crazy. I don't think any film composers of now use this for inspiration, but there's no question that it definately influenced the greats. And that's not a bad thing! Most of all, I'm just stoked that the same man who produced Der Kranke Mond (gag) also produced this monstrous amount of beauty!
  2. Has anybody heard the piece "Gurre-Lieder" by Schoenberg? I have to admit that I loathe much of Schoenberg's music...but this piece...it's mammoth. I'd go as far as to say it's the "tonal" version of the Rite of Spring. A lot more clever too. Plus, you can definately hear where the classic film composers got some of their inspiration, and in turn, some of the newer ones as well. Honestly, I'll go on record as saying this is my new favorite piece. Definately if you get a chance, check it out.
  3. Get Gigastudio. It's a little bit of money, but it's well well well worth it. I don't have much money, and I've managed alright. I use a bit of a jerry-rigged setup. Remember that old program Noteworthy Composer? Well I've always found that that program, when really familiar with all its ins and outs, is best for trying to make a natural sounding MIDI file. So when I compose, I do so into Finale (which I love). Then I make MIDIs in Noteworthy Composer, connected to my Gigastudio. (Don't worry...all this is on one computer...if you really need clear details on my exact setup, PM me). I use samples I've either bought or gotten from friends, and I make my MIDIs like that. Then I use a freeware MIDI to WAV program to great my sound files. Voila. It seems complicated but it's really not. And that, my friends, is the poor-man's sound studio setup lol.
  4. I love how everybody looks so...well...average in that picture. It looks like a big company photo! Even stunning Keira Knightley looks like a normal good looking lady. It's cool
  5. Wow...it's rediculous how much that piece just moved me.
  6. Indiana Jones and the Failed Quest for the Fountain of Youth Haha...alright, now that I got that out of the way.... I would love to see something horror-ish with Indiana Jones. Not neccessarily a monster per say...but maybe something in Romania researching a certain Vlad the Impaler? I just think it would be neat for Indy to deal with a cult of followers not praying to Mola ram. That could maybe tie into the whole immortality thing...which in all seriousness, would work well with Ford's age as youth is obviously a bit more pressing for Indy at this point. Also, although it's easy to discredit...I think the script with Indy dealing with "martians" or aliens is kind of a neat idea. It wouldn't really work well with the other films...unless you tied it to faith or religion some how...but hey...in the 50s...government coverups...the russians...it could work...and be a cool new direction. Also, another idea would be to have Indy meet a wealthy...if not a bit out there...old man...who invites him to a lost island. Only for Indy to discover a land filled to the brim with exctinct animals. All goes well until they get loose.............. The tagline could be "You angered Sheeva...now hold on to your butts!"
  7. Hello again. First off, what I meant by "themes" was that with War of the Worlds, while stunning music, there isn't really a standout theme that laymen would pick out. I mean sure, we, as musicians can pick out motifs, and themes easily, but most orchestras have to go for the laymen. And WOW and Minority Report don't really have easily recognizable themes. Now, I called back, and the guy I got on the line seemed confused, so he didn't really help me much, but I did manage to get a couple out of him. One HL is working on is Sound the Bells. And the second is Born on the Fourth of July. I like both, so this should be good!
  8. Hello, my fellow Hartt Attendee! I could definately go for a Suite from Memoirs. Or perhaps something from War of the Worlds, or at least A Prayer for Peace from Munich. Unfortunately, as of late, most of Williams scores that haven't already had at least one thing published for HL don't really have "stand alone themes" in the sense of what an orchestra would actually spend money to perform you know? I'd really love for them to dive into some of the oldies. Last Crusade comes to mind, but perhaps also Parade of the Slave Children from TOD. Actually though, I talked to some representatives at HL about 5 months ago and asked them what was on deck, and they gave me a fairly extensive list of new Williams pieces being published. Unfortunately, I forgot what they were, but maybe I'll call back tomorrow.
  9. I actually agree with you on Jeepers Creepers. It kind of left me unsettled...but it was nothing amazing. It could have been a lot more...but just the general concept alone was enough to make it cool. Another movie that didn't necessarily scare me now that I'm older is Evil Dead. But come on...who doesn't like Evil Dead? Bruce Campbell is awesome! But I also have to mention that I absolutely loathe all of Wes Craven's films. I think Nightmare On Elm street was well thought out...but too cheesey. But now, whenever he's interviewed he seems to think that he's the "master of horror." That annoys me to no end. I must admit that Scream ONE was entertaining.
  10. Yes sir! John Jesensky!
  11. Who cares if the Blair Witch was successful? Plenty of movies that are considered classics completely bombed at the box office. What we are talking about here is if a movie scared you. And I happen to think that Blair Witch was quite clever. There are too many films that show everything. This film did just the opposite. It gave you a great sense of voyerism like in Psycho. You always feel like you are watching the action, but not seeing EXACTLY what they see gives me more dread and fear than being there. And I agree that The Ring was terrible...though I'm not sure how much I agree with you since you didn't give any reasons. Saw is another film that I thought was quite clever. Especially since it was directed by someone barely older than myself! However, I would agree that it wasn't that scary..definately unnerving...but not scary. However, I think that one shouldn't discredit a film simply because it doesn't go for "traditional" scary. I think unnerving works just as well! And trust me, coming from someone who owns, directs and produces their own haunted attraction, as well as assistant directs the number one haunted house in the entire east of the US, unnerving gets just as many people as "Boo!"
  12. Yeah, Silent Hill 3 kind of got old. If you REALLY want to play an intense game, play Silent Hill 2. Avoid 4 like the plague. Another game, that doesn't have the weaponry...but I think is really neat and original is Fatal Frame...try that one. The original...not the sequel. That too is pretty creepy.
  13. I'm a bit of a horror freak, so excuse an rambling I do. I HATED The Ring. I just thought it was incredibly blase. It's like an american writer asked a Japanese writer what was scary, and then kind of took some of the ideas and just splattered them on a script. Not good. As for which movies scare me, to this day, The Exorcist does...simply because part of me always thinks "What if this really happened to me?" And that subliminal imaging of "Captain Howdy" always disturbs me. I also really loved The Omen...very creepy. I think for some reason religious-themed horror films strike a chord with me. And I have to agree with the people who thought Blair Witch was good. A lot of people HATED it. But people like myself, who do more imagining at a horror movie than watching, totally freak out during that movie. Not knowing what is going on completely is so much scarier than seeing everything! One last movie that I think is creepy is the original Halloween. I mean...it's where we get the modern slasher movies from...except done well. Carpenter did it with no budget, and managed to really invent a new way of being scared. Wouldn't you be scared if you looked out your window and this expressionless thing was just sitting there staring at you? I would be!
  14. Silent Hill is my absolute favorite video game of all time. I was actually working on my own script to do myself if nobody ever made a Silent Hill movie...just for fun to see how it would work on the screen. I DID hear that Yamaoka IS doing the score...so that will be amazing. Every picture I've seen for this film excites me just a little bit more. Even the witch character...how awesome is that! And is it sad that I can picture exactly where they are in the town by that big rubble heap near the drop off in the road? Haha.
  15. The last 20 minutes of Big Fish for me. Every single time...I just can't help it...it's like onions!
  16. Actually, yes! I figured I'd give it some time to see if any new people caught onto the competition, but that has not happened thus far!
  17. OH come on! You honestly think that that music is boring? I think it sets a great tone for the film! Why do you think it's boring? And I don't know if I'd go as far as saying that's an insult to Elfman. I love his stuff, but come on. Hexachord hexachord hexachord.... By comparison, listen to Williams opening piece for Harry Potter POA...not too much more "exciting" is it? At least not to me. I'm not fooled by the bells and whistles of 32nd notes...
  18. It's.........GOOD! I like it! It's definately not what we are used to for Harry Potter...but it almost sounds like Danny Elfman got to do it. Let's face it...that dark sort of Bernard Herrmann sound fits for the newer stories. THe song on the other hand...yeah....... banghead
  19. I have never actually been able to get a score out of TNV. Have you? They always make you go through a lot of red tape...and make it so you have to fake a performance with it. I would love to know if you have done it before...and how. You can PM me if you want. Other than that...the END CREDITS of Indy 3 are floating around. You can PM me if you want for more info.
  20. Sorry misunderstood. I thought you were saying that you couldn't find the form from their webpage, not the webpage in general! Thanks anyways though!
  21. Do you have a link to their music department? I've actually been looking to get in contact with them for some time. Thanks!
  22. I just felt bad for Josh Groban. He was clearly sick. He had a couple very pitchy spots...and one flat out NASTY voice crack. I respect him. He's got a good voice, and some will say "why feel bad for him? he makes more money than you ever will". But I know, as a performer, how embarassing it is to have a voice crack...sick or not. And even when you are as famous as he is...he probably still felt pretty bad then. Poor guy. As far as the rest of the concert went...that Jurassic-Hook thing bothered me. But it was obviously just some timing issues in the very "modern" section. The pops sounded alright...at least no really nasty screw-ups with the brass.
  23. It's like Deja vu all over again...
  24. Then as I said before...Thank God for a director like you! Haha...have any projects coming up you need a composer for?! 8O
