Man Of Steel: When everything is said and done, I can't give it more than a 6/10. I wasn't bored at all, and even though I like the general presentation, the film is just too occupied with telling the basic Superman story ... and action, action, action. Except for maybe Jor-El (Russell Crowe), there is no time to connect to any of the characters (goodies or baddies) or the environments of Krypton (the dark side of Avatar?), Metropolis and Smallville. The flashbacks don't help either, which is a shame because Kostner could've been as good as Glenn Ford. Also, after a while I noticed I was waiting for a bit of comic relief, something to counterbalance the drama. The big and long finale? I've seen it before ... in The Matrix Revolutions.

Zack Snyder really needs to make a movie with Russel Crowe playing the lead character. And then he should make one with Michael Fassbender.

Neither is Alien, but hey, I guess only sci-fi buffs make a big deal out of it. I too would put Alien in my top 10 because, well, there's not much else out there. I don't think I can get up to 10 titles, and even if I could, it probably be as boring as most official lists. I love science fiction but it's the genre I'm the most critical of.

Yes, the majority of films will be forgotten but I firmly believe that true greatness transcends generations.

Of course, 2001: ASO is up there too but mainly because the aesthetics inspire awe which is a very powerful emotion (the sublime) . It hasn't put as many thoughts into my head as Blade Runner though.

I didn't know this but it was just on the news. The Hobbit is written for children and therefore the tone of the film will be different, more light, less dark.
Sorry if it's been talked about already. I never come here.

You need realism? Stick to Ken Loach movies! Musicals have their own laws, build their own universe.

I never forgot the disappointment that as ROTJ, so I wasn't so sure it was going to be good. Lucas was no longer a god in my eyes. That being said, I've always been interested (something I've expressed several times at the forum) to see a Star Wars movie seen through the perspective of a different director and without the involvement of Lucas. What would Nolan, Lynch, Fincher, Spielberg or Scott do with this universe? Episode VII is a baby step closer to the answer. Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back had a lot of teenager cool, but things got a lot more childish with Return Of The Jedi. 'Childishness' was the main reason why I wanted to see a Star Wars movie from a different perspective.

In the late seventies, I was a huge Star Wars fan, so naturally I went to see Battlestar Galactica. To my disappointment, I saw a film that merely wanted to sail on the waves of the mighty Star Wars. I was, however, a loyal follower of the TV series. What can I say, I was really hungry for sci-fi in those days. Most of it was bad though. The only filmmaker who could match the greatness of Star Wars was Ridley Scott. I'm still waiting for the next sci-fi master, someone who will rock my world all over again. Will it happen? I sorta lost hope by now.

Revolution: John Corigliano. I hated the film when I saw the film in the '80s. The score isn't all that bad though. Very unWilliams is a time when everything was Williams.

Proof that vibrant colors and Williams' theme (the 2 laws for great filmmaking according to the average JWfan) are no guarantee for greatness.

Look how vibrant! Is that want you want? Really?
