  1. Found at http://www.canoe.ca/JamStarWars/oct11_star...arwars-sun.html I'm pretty neutral on this subject, but how does everyone else feel?
  2. I'm very impressed with what Davis has done. I've listened to a large majority of it, but I'm going to wait to see the movie in IMAX next week to hear the rest and to see how well it goes with the film (even though I'm picking up the score on the 4th). Many people are beginning to see the talent he has, and I love that he's not afraid to be creative and take chances in his work. I can see him as a great contender in the world of music, not just in film, but as an overall composer. He has some great concert works and just recently, premired "A Lunatic Air (On Fire)," at the LA County Museum of Art. I'd really love to hear Neodammerung performed live though. I'd gladly pay to see that!
  3. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I remember first hearing Neodammerung the morning Jim Ware had posted the link to it and I was blown away. Then I listened to it later and it just wasn't the same, but, I also was more interested getting something to eat (because I had just came home from school) than listening to it, so I kind of just casted it aside. So that played a big role in that instance. But as it gets later in the day, I'd much rather hear something relaxing, like Harry Wonderous World, or something along those lines.
  4. *George Lopez, The Simpsons, My Wife and Kids, and the Sopranos are all decent shows and so I'd like to see them. But I'm a big 24 fan. That has to be the best drama on T.V. as of now. I'm happy Sean Callery (The Composer for 24) won for Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Dramatic Underscore). He deserved it! *I like Fox, but I wish they never had gotten rid of Family Guy. That's a funny show and it was great to see--right after the Simpsons--every Sunday.
  5. Morn said: Thanks for clarifiying! I did mean it like that. Mr. Breathmask says: Has the movie not come out over there or something? That sucks, I mean by the time you see it, it'll probably be on DVD over here. If you don't see it by December, I'll have to send you a copy. lol. Ok.
  6. lol. You knew I'd respond to this one! Yeah it does look like something out of a movie, but it's actually the sun. I guess there monitoring the sun for solar flare activity. I've heard that a large amount of electromagnetic radiation is headed out way. I doubt it'll be too bad though.
  7. The Matrix Revolutions Countdown: *Only 7 days until one of the best scores (I?ve heard in a while anyway) comes out. *Only 8 days until one of the most anticipated finales of the year comes out. *I expect big things from this movie, especially since the movie studio is opting for the Matrix Revolutions to be in the Oscar Nominations (if it gets it) rather than Reloaded. *I already expect The Matrix series to be the highest grossing ?R? rated trilogy ever. It may even out do some previous trilogies. *I am looking forward to seeing this movie much more than Return of the King, but will undoubtedly see it anyway. *My question is: What else does everyone expect (or doesn?t expect) out of this movie? What about the score? Will this movie be better than Return of the King? Sounds like a poll to me?.
  8. I've written a little bit, here and there, you get my drift. But I'm waiting until I get Sibelius to send anything. I do have them on paper though, and so if that would work, then I'll have to see what I can do. That'll have to wait for a little while, because I'm producing for a few upcoming people, and so I'll get back to you on that one. But I love the concept for your site, and I can honestly say that I was one of the first to post. Keep up the good work!
  9. Rogue_Leader says: Well then the Matrix is a rarity. It's far from lackluster, and has recieved some great criticism. Hlao-roo says: Give the man a hand-clap. I totally agree. Marian Schedenig says: I feel the same way. You can't compare apples with oranges. The Matrix score is on a whole different level when it comes to scores. *I'm not totally sure about this one, but in each of the film's opening titles (Matrix, Matrix Reloaded, Matrix Revolutions) the rotating horns motif seems to move up an octave (I do need to analyze this further though). If this is true, then Don Davis has expanded on his musical ideas rather creatively. Well I am an advocate for the Matrix, and a lot of upcoming composers, and I feel that these newer composers (especially Davis) deserves the utmost respect. I love what he's done here, and so I have nothing but good things to say about his score. This has to be one of the best minimalist (with a bit of postmodernism) scores around, and even surpasses some of what Phillip Glass had made. So I feel it is highly unfair to trash Davis, especially with the work he's done here. He hasn't been out as long as Williams, but even Williams realizes he has talent, otherwise he wouldnt have been chosen to adapt "Williams' themes." So you have to give credit where it's due. Davis is oscar bound baby! The Revolutions score deserves it!
  10. I'm a big Matrix Fan. I had a post about the Matrix Revolutions, but it got deleted in the server crash. I'll have to make another one, but its cool. Well if you really do have these links, I'd love to have them. I really would like to hear the tracks, and so any help you could get me would be appreciated. Just email them to me if you do decide to give them. Thanks.
  11. Yeah, I totally agree about Elfman scoring Harry Potter. I too, felt like he would be a great choice if JW never did it. As far as who should have scored LOTR, well, I would have went with Alan Silvestri. I mean you can always expect a good score from him. But if you look at his Mummy Returns score, some of it would have worked well with the film. I also wish he would have finished The Pirates of the Carribean. Then I'd probably enjoy the score from this movie much more than I do now.
  12. lol. This isn't the first time JW's been sampled. My friend had a Rap Mixtape, and it had the Ending Credits music from Jurassic Park in it. The thing was, it didnt sound half bad. 8O The producer who sampled the beat is named Swizz Beatz, and the song was called Jurassic Harlem. In case anyone wanted to hear it. I just wonder what the Jaws Theme will sound like. Especially since Will Smith isn't the rapper he used to be. But I have to hand it to rap. Even though it's starting to all sound the same, the producers keep getting better and better. Especially this one producer named Timbaland. I think he's one of the best producers out there, I mean, who else could have made a beat for Justin Timberlake sound as good as it did. I was very suprised when I heard that Cry me a River song. The producer did a great job on it and so I'm not too skeptical on how this Jaws theme will turn out in a Hip-hop format.
  13. Come on Melange, it's only a question. Don't dodge it. I know you have an opinion. And the post is far from childish. In fact it's somewhat of a hot topic. That's why I posed it as a challenge . *Thanks for answering Albaicin. I do appreciate that. *Anyway, all I asked for was 5 simple opinions. It's not that hard to do. Earlier this month, a "when scores beat movies" topic arose, and I didn't see you call that childish. I found it rather enlightening to see why posters felt the way they did about the scores, and what many people's choices were to the question that was posed to them. Also, a topic called "New Eye-wear for Mr. Williams" came about, and I really didn't hear you say anything about that. (No offense to the poster; seeing as I replied to it and didn't complain) I highly respect the poster of that; especially for creating a new post and thus, expanding the number of ideas brought about in this forum. *I'm not, in any way, trying to belittle or create malcontent over why a composer may or may not be better than another composer. I only want one's explanation as to why he or she is. *In the classical world, many regard Beethoven or Mozart as the best composers of all time. In the same manner, all I'm asking for is an explanation as to why you feel that a composer may and should be more highly regarded than another one. *Another reason I posed this question is because it is quite common to see a large number of reiterations on the same topic arise on a daily basis. *All I'm trying to do is diversify the discussions. That's it, plain and simple. *So you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but if in fact that is the case, then please refrain from calling it childish. Peace.
  14. Challenge #1: *There are tons of film composers, but who can really get the job done when it comes down to it. *In this post, I would like to see how well someone (or a team of posters) can argue their opinion(s), and give the appropriate reasoning for why their chosen composer can out do or possibly match another composer. *Opinion #1: Name the Composer(s)- Could be a team effort if a selected work was adapted by another composer. Example: Alan Silvestri *Opinion #2: Selected work(s)- Can be entire score, selected tracks, etc. Example: Opening Theme, Arrival In China, Flower Pagoda Battle: Tomb Raider-The Cradle of Life (Alan Silvestri) *Opinion #3: Targeted composer, supposed inferior works & reasoning for why that composer is better and or competent in what he/she does. Example: Graeme Revell-Tomb Raider vs Silvestri-Cradle of Life Score. Revell's Lackluster score is rather dull compared to the sheer brilliance of Silvestri's masterpiece. *Opinion#4: Closing arguments/Final The comparision is easy; the choice is simple. You can't compare a diamond to sheet metal. In this same manner, the obvious winner is Silvestri's score over Revell's ultimately malnourished creature of a score. This has proved that, indeed, there are some score you can love to hate. *Optional Opinion #5: Favorite style and or musical period. (Example: Minimalism, Serialism, Impressionism, Baroque Period. Example: Minimalism, Romatic Period --Those (above) were only examples of how your opinions should be stern, but still be able to get your point across. I have nothing against Graeme Revell, and his score is not bad. I actually like him as a composer and thoroughly respect anyone in the film scoring business.(even though many will disagree with me and it's cool, cause it's your opinion) **Oh, just to let you know, this is for a Music Appreciation class im taking, but also, I've decided to try something new (since I've never seen a post like this here). **One rule, one composer can only be used 3 times. After that, any other opinions will be held as null and void. --Since these are film composers, I would like to see how well someone could state why or how someone's works could be better than, let's say, some of John Williams' (or perhaps another chosen composer). --Oh and these are only opinions, so let's not get offended please. Disclamer: --I do realize this is a John Williams fan site, and so this is one of the reasons I've chose this question. John Williams is probably the best film composer ever (and one of my favorites), hands down, so this, may or may not be, a challenge for one to prove. But with that said, let's begin!
  15. I'll go with: *Map Room at Dawn- Indiana Jones *Kamino Storm- (Titled as Main Title/ Ambush on Coruscant on the Attack of the Clones cd) *Zam the Assassin- Star Wars *I like the Finale (on the Attack of the Clones cd) but its not very action-oriented. I do love the ominous tone it provide for the movie though. *Raiders March- Indiana Jones
  16. Lucasfilm is waiting for their next hit movie. lol. Umm, actually maybe they've gone cheap on marketing costs. They may be puting all there energy into Star Wars and the next Indy movie and neglecting the older versions. Either way, I just want them both to come out. And yes, if they put E.T. back in theaters (of all movies?) then they should put Indy ot as well.
  17. Washed up? Not if he's the number 1 most demanded composer in Hollywood. Now if you were talking about John Tesh, then I'd believe ya.
  18. It depends on his tastes. I like his music, more than his glasses, but he should try lighter frames cause the one's he uses are a kinda big. Or maybe he might decide to get contacts. Who knows?
  19. Damn good job ridan! If you plan on doing so, please add the Two Towers score. How long did this take you by the way? I mean you have the lyrics and all, so it doesn't look like something that you'd be able to do in an hour. Anyways, once again, good job.
  20. Yoda Longbottom wrote: Haha! I hope not. If he doesn't deliver on this one, then he will on Indiana Jones. But I expect a lot out of JW on this one.
  21. magical_me wrote: lol. I see what your saying. I only meant that he'd accel at creating a political score based on hearing his work in Independence Day. I should've elaborated.
  22. *I'll have to agree with Kingmark on that one. Leave political films to David Arnold. Now he'd accel at that.
  23. Who's scoring the next Batman? It should be Silvestri if Elfman doesn't do it. I'd like to hear him score a superhero flick. I know Silvestri's doing Van Helsing, but thats more of an action/adventure flick than anything. But I think Elfman should return to the Batman series if he's not too busy scoring Big Fish and Spider-Man.
