  1. Perhaps JW winning the JFK Center Honor this year will help him win.
  2. John I will be ready to bash some heads in if you lose and you want me to bash peoples heads in.
  3. Really? If they're nothing more than a popularity contest, then why did Corigliano win in 2000 for The Red Violin? I don't recall that film -- or score -- enjoying enormous popularity. A wide range of things are taken into factor. Note that people who have been up for many oscars start drawing sympathy votes - its the same for entrance into the hall of fame for sports. I think that the score nominations are associated more with the film and less with the composer. And therefore musicallity is not singled out as it should be. I am positive that many people will be voting who have never heard some of these scores. That is why agents send out media packets with CD's attached. I have the feeling that since Harry Potter is just a "kid's book/film" in the eyes of many adults that John Williams will be overlooked again by filmmakers who take the art more seriously then purely entertainment. PS Some scores, like the Red Violin, are just no brainers to vote for. Certain films like Lawrence of Arabia, Schindler's List, The Adventures of Robin Hood were clearly the best of that year. I just do not get how scores like Godfather 2 win, when the first one lost. Clearly that was a sympathy vote (or rather a compensation vote). I honestly don't think that too many people put nearly as much thought into it as we do. I hope JW wins, this is one of his finest scores ( which is saying something). In my opinion 9/10 times when he is nominated his is the finest score musically there. Man I was just reviewing this list of past winners nominees. Some scores which lost which are amazing scores. no JW included Gone With the Wind Magnificent 7 Planet of the Apes Patton Chinatown Jeez you just never know with these voters. I am glad Million Dollar baby was excluded.
  4. Oscars are no more then a popularity contest, I guarantee you that 95 Percent of the people voting couldn't hum a single bar from any of the nominees (except the voting composers, music editors etc....). Its like OK Passion had music, great I will vote for that since I didn't vote for it for best cinematography etc.... I will root for JW, yet I will also be satsified with JNH getting one for his shelf. Debney is great - but Passion is not an Oscar Worthy score - there is really nothing much to it, especially it lacks originality.
  5. I am going to try and be a background stand in actor for this movie. Apparntly they need thousands - all you need to be able to do is be in shape, be able run in the rain and not mind wearing raggedy clothing. I will keep you guys posted.
  6. Hey I am the most hard core new yorker around - born raised - goes into severe depression when the yankees or rangers lose - LA is the place to be though if you want to work in the industry. 80 percent of the jobs are there.
  7. The more you get to look at his conductor scores the more you begin to appreciate the writing for the woodwinds. Especially creative doubling and really cool counterlines which are buried into the mix and not always "heard". He is also a master of aggressive string writing - Aesteroid Field and Duel of the Fates. Often has famous brass sections are simply doubles of the string section. I also love the way he uses woodwinds to sparkle the trumpets - having the oboes play at pitch with the trumpets double it up an octave with the flutes - If I had to pick one John Williams orchestrational thing to represent most of his work that would be it. He uses that practially everywhere - in all scores.
  8. The euphonium was used for the final statement of the Raptor Theme on the Jurassic Park End Titles - which I believe are track seven.
  9. I cant believe my two favorite musicians alive were on the same show: JW and billy joel. Good stuff - Bush seemed like he was to fall asleep at any moment. I enjoyed seing Jack stand up and clap for mr. williams.
  10. I saw crawford do it twice - hes the man. It was written for him.
  11. I saw JW's mother at the bowl this summer. Don is alive - he conducted at Fox this summer the Scherzo from Last Crusade for this institute i was in. Joe is alive my pal works for him.
  12. Sure Whatever I will give it a try: 1. ET - Flying Theme/Into Theme (Lydian) 2. Imperial Theme 3. Jaws 4. Jurassic Park Second Theme (Journey to the Island) 5. Raiders March 6. Hook Main Theme (Prologue) 7. Duel of the Fates Motif and Theme 8. Schindler's List Theme 9. Theme from the Asteriod Chase 10. Fawkes the Pheonix thats mine in order - i am sure yours will differ.
  13. Variety is good - the horn would have been too simple and not magic enough for the passage. I have the score - and can also hear the doublings after years of study.
  14. Sometimes great doublings sound like other instruments. I think JW uses Alto Flute, Basson, English Horn, Clarinet all at the same pitch to simulate a French Horn in Harry Potter - check around 49 seconds on the proluge of track 1 of harry potter 1 to see what I mean. What a neat thing!
  15. I hear bassoon clarinet oboe
  16. I love how we can spawn 1 picture and 1 line into this huge discussion. lol.
  17. Uqj3w y94h34 w7diw (q5 o3qw5 oq53o6).

  19. He wrote the song. Funded the demo recording! Secretly so the director did not know - he deserves all the credit! It was a last minute addition. I just heard six million figure from someone in town.
  20. When I was young and saw the Journey to the Island from Jurassic Park I was hooked and nearly fell out of my seat.
  21. I heard that horner made at least 6 Million off of Titanic, since he got a cut on the CD's from the song which was almost NOT in the movie!
  22. So Tom Hanks and Ron Howard on DaVinci Code - does that mean another horner score?? Should be a tight film.
