GTA online is absolutely huge, especially on PC (mod scene). There's an almost endless amount of official content been added to the game since release.

Yes, very much an active online scene.  But to stay in the top 10 for new in-store sales for this long is astounding.  Money-printing machine!   Don't think Red Dead 2 will be able to match it on that front.

Red Dead Revolver still holds that nostalgic first place for me. Redemption was excellent, but a different beast altogether. Kinda disappointed that they are going back to it rather than a "Red Dead Revolution," per se, but I understand that tapping back into its success is a smart choice. The game's structure wouldn't be any different either way, too.

I was hoping for Red Dead Redemption

I'm confused. Either you've made a bad joke or don't know that the second game is called Red Dead Redemption? :P

Fuck.  I should've looked back at my post.  I meant to type Red Dead Reclamation.  That was my pick for the third game's title.

While I really loved the more traditional American frontier story they told in Redemption, the Spaghetti Western love they gave in Revolver hits the Leone fan in me much more effectively. Would have liked to see them blend the two styles into a Duck, You Sucker kinda of way, during the Mexican Revolution.

So NIER Automata really has an interesting story, the kind that makes you dig deeper online to get all the lore and fan theories. I also played the first NIER which takes place before

normally I never play NG+ but in this case you have to play the game more than once to get extra story and endings. My second play through was only 8 hours  and it's from the other character's perspective .

hmm, actually after the second ending the game is adding brand  new story contents. I guess this game has a weird structure

I finally played the Destiny 2 beta last night. Doesn't seem like Bungie improved on anything. It's literally the same. Actually, the horizontal control axis seems really stiff too, at least compared to the vertical. Doesn't feel quite right.

Maybe I'm just delusional. Have you played it @Quintus?

It's almost entirely exactly the same as the first game. Take the core tried and proven gameplay and iterate on it, streamline and make it more polished. See: CoD, FIFA, Forza, Gran Turismo, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed etc etc. That's the idea, anyway; I'm not sold yet on a couple of the changes made to weapon roles, but it's early days for Destiny 2 so I'll wait and see.

I didn't notice anything unsual about the controls, it felt mechanically identical to the first game, albeit slightly smoother due to enhanced post processing effects new to Destiny 2. I play inverted Y axis, 5 sensitivity.

Oh the core gameplay is great, but I meant other improvements like UI, loading, and just a general increase in graphical fidelity. The classes and perks seem identical. Feels more like another expansion pass than the leap I was expecting, since the original was made for older hardware.

From what has been revealed so far, it definitely feels exactly like an expansion. "More of the same" is pretty much all the veteran Destiny player really wants though. I want to see how much of a package the final release is, how much content there is, before making a judgement. I'm fairly happy if it's like the beta but with a shit ton more stuff to do. That'll be me sorted.

Personally, I can see a nice improvement in the visuals. Spaces are larger and the lighting alone is much more sophisticated than it was in the original game. More than anything I'm just really fucking annoyed that Bungie are STILL rocking 30fps in PVP. I expected it in PVE on these weak-assed consoles, but there's no good excuses for 4v4 multiplayer not to be hitting 60fps these days. Hence why I'm probably going to also get the game on PC later on.

There's nothing game developers can do about old overclocked CPUs originally intended for laptop computers. Even the Scorpio is still stuck using the ancient Jaguar architecture, same as the Pro (and XBONE and PS4).

Anyway, this was shown today, and it looks and sounds to me like a major step up for ambient activities in Destiny:

The game is just bad, sorry to say. I played it for about 5 hours one day and put it to rest.

Actually it gets a lot better once it really gets going

I haven't really mentioned much lately about what I've been playing these last 6 months or so, so for anyone mildly interested:

Infinity Warfare. Finished. The most enjoyable CoD campaign I've played since the last time I got into one (Black Ops 1). Absolutely spectacular shooter in places and with a big corny heart which I appreciated.

The Evil Within. Finished. The creator of Resident Evil made a new survival horror IP which made Resident Evil obsolete. Bonkers plot, but you just go along with it because the gameplay mechanics are so fun. I'm going to buy the season pass for this later on, because apparently the expansions are superb.

Fallout 4. Finished. What can you say about these games which hasn't already been said? For me though, a good game with a marvelous explorable world, but one who's systems are stuck firmly in the past. Everything about Bethesda RPGs is crying out for a major overhaul. I hated how the story ended for me, because I picked a faction quest towards the end which I didn't realise would lock me into a final outcome I absolutely hated and did not agree with in the slightest. Ruined it for me really. My first and possibly last Fallout playthrough.

Doom. Ongoing. I have the final mission left to beat in this fantastic old school but breathtakingly state of the art descent into shooter hell. Great in shorter doses, it's one of those games that is ideal for releasing stress.

Ryse: Son of Rome. Ongoing. Final mission left to beat. A repetitive but still very playable and enjoyable slash 'em up which looks about as opulent as video game visuals can get. A fun little revenge story on it and absolutely brutal combat, file this one under "underrated".

Inside. Finished. I wanted to play it again so I did. Absolutely brilliant side-scrolling adventure straight out of an unwritten Orwell novel. The finale... wow!

Devil May Cry. Ongoing. I remember playing the demo for this years ago on the Xbox 360 and thinking at the time one day. So a couple of weeks ago that day finally came when it was offered in a Humble Bundle for a dollar. Happy Days. #patientgamers

Mark of the Ninja. Ongoing. Very cool indie side-scrolling stealth game which you could easily call the definitive 2D stealth game.

Metro: Last Light. Finished. Absorbing shooter which has shades of the Half-Life series in abundance and is getting an ambitious sequel soon, which I obviously now have my eye on.

The Fall. Ongoing. Harking back to the days of the classic point n click adventure but with a new control scheme and even a degree of combat, this eerie sci-fi puzzle game has an intriguing storyline about AI and a minimalist art style thick with gloom and mystery.

you could say your more of a FPS specialist . And you got a lot of sidescrollers in there

And YES...Dragon Quest XI localisation:

(but it better not be the 3DS version  only)

Since its coming to the 3DS, Switch, and PS4 in Japan, it will probably get localized to the same three platforms here

Appreciate the write-up. A few of those or on my backlog; and agreed about Infinite Warfare. It's my favorite campaign since Modern Warfare. Infinity Ward has something special going on when it comes to campaigns. They really nail them.

I've already finished The Last Guardian. Takes a few nights. It got more interesting towards the end but I guess a game that was 10 years in development should have been better. Controls were EXTREMELY clunky. I never figured out how to make the character run properly. Every few steps he'd suddenly stop and tip toe like he was on the balancing sections. Not too good if your running away from the monsters

KM puts up with a lot of... 'design quirks' in a way I never could, so for him to complain about core gameplay problems it must be as bad as I've frequently read it is, so I doubt I'll ever touch that game, well because life's too short, in this gaming golden era.

I  have 2 other games on hand right now Styx,Shards of Darkness , some sort of stealth RPG and Attack on Titan, an action game based on an anime

but I need a few days break right now.

Attack on Titan has a very unique and cool combat system. Your battling giant monsters invading cities by jumping and flying on jet packs using anchors and ropes to latch on to the monsters to attack them from any angle (you have to destroy specific parts and weak spot). It's also challenging and took me a while to grasp the system properly

Too bad it's a short  game  but this battle system could have been the basis for a more epic game

Im a horrible gamer, so I rarely play mutiplayer anything (everyone always has a more powerful gun than me), but I have been enjoying Star Wars Battlefront lately. And Dead Island. Everynow and then I jump into Division.

I have "Inside" and I have enjoyed what I have played, although there are some really tough puzzles!

I get frustrated at difficult puzzles. Same happened with the game Max and his Brother or whatever it was called. I gave up on it b/c I could not figure one of the puzzles out. Stopped being fun, and just became annoying.... I'll get back into Inside, cause I did like it.

When I play the Portal games, that sort of thing, and I get farther on into the adventure, I put them down and play something else when I get stuck. Then I'll return a little later and look at the puzzle again with fresh eyes. Always works. I don't think I've ever looked online for a solution, because to me the whole point of puzzles in puzzle games is to be stumped and then eventually, finally, figure it out. That's the reward.

In those situations just look it up online. I only got stuck at one spot in Inside, from what I recall. It was pretty tame, at least compared to other puzzle games.

Where did you get stuck?

I don't remember, I stopped playing it awhile back. But I think it had to do with one of the puzzles where you are controlling two(or three?) diff groups each going in a diff direction. I'll have to get back to it. Like Quint says above, seeing it with fresh eyes sometimes helps.

Of course, but I'm not gonna let something like that prevent me from finishing a game. There's also a difference, I think, between games like Portal and adventure games where there's no logic to the puzzles and you have to somehow figure out to combine a banana with a fork to unlock a door. LucasArts and Double Fine, that style.

That's often very true actually, in regards to the point n click genre. It's always been an aspect of those games which I've found off putting ever since I moved on from the likes of Monkey Island et al. I don't have the same patience for those games as I do for more modern puzzlers with logic whose rules are clearly defined and less opaque.

Yeah, when proceeding through to next stage essentially boils down to erratically swiping the cursor all over the screen and trying (in vain) to combine the wrench with the fried egg. That was okay in the 16bit days, but not so much now.

Started playing The Divison again on XOne. I am only a lvl 19, but jesus jumping christ it's difficult in solo mode.

I can't even get through a map section to get to the next safe house. Died three times during the same "Encounter". Sigh. Which is why, now I remember, I stopped playing in the first place.

I enjoyed the 40 hours I put into The Division solo. It's just unfortunate that I wasn't able to secure an endgame team of friends to play with in the Dark Zone. Seemed like a fun Destiny-style loot hunt.

It is, but the real world setting and grimly serious tone meant that there was no room for imagination in any of the loot, so none of it really felt alluring or exotic. Everything and everyone pretty much looked the same. Still a good game, but the developer didn't really go for it like they might have done.

I can see that. The concept of the Dark Zone itself is pretty cool though. Maybe the sequel will broaden the game up.

On the subject of loot hunting, Destiny 2 is coming up soon and I'm looking forward to jumping back in. I didn't stick with the DLC as much as I would have liked.
