To me the benefits of a Facebook account it not worth the hassles of maintaining it properly or the risk of having it hacked (with potentially disastrous consequences). Not to mention the govt. is now spying on you

There's plenty of public old school message boards online to discuss your favorite hobbies

nobody will ever give a shit about what I post here

This board is even easier to index than Facebook. With Facebook, they need access to their internal databases (or a privileged account), and as we know they get that. But with JWFan and other publicly readable message boards, they don't need any kind of special access at all.

It's not like that

I just have a few policies regarding the Internet that I stick to. I don't trust it so easily as some of you do

The government has been spying on you since you were born!

I don't understand what would be so disastrous to having a FB account hacked or deleted. It's the equivalent of losing your contacts on your phone. It sucks, but you'll get back the names and numbers that were important.

To sum it up:

-No Social Networks accounts

-No banking online except for a special, separate bank account with minimum balance to cover ebay and other purchases.

-Use only Paypal for purchases and avoid giving card number directly to websites

-No wireless router as long as I can avoid it

-General web surfing precautions had me avoid viruses and malware for years (I can't believe the shit I find on my parents ans sister's computers when I run Malwarebytes)

of course, I said I've learned over the years on what not to click in websites, including porn websites. The worst were the cyberlocker cites actually, at some point they felt like navigating in a mine field

I seem to know when you should just get out or just shut down the browser from the task manager

Indeed. PayPal are known quite famously for their mafioso involvement ie funding. WTF was KM thinking?! PayPal is literally the last company I'd use.

Well basically if you use ebay a lot you don't have much choice, since most sellers accept ONLY PayPal

I'd still rather have my info in one place than scattered around small, less secure websites

So far I haven't been screwed by them, and the credit card attached to it has a very low limit

anyways it's the reason I said I had a special bank account for online use

I have. I still use them, but trusting them and at the same time mistrusting nearly everyone else so strongly doesn't compute.

I don't trust them. I said I went to a different bank than my usual one and opened a account with a minimal balance just to give them the account info they wanted.

Since they ALREADY have my info and you can use PayPal to pay on a lot of sites, I'd rather have it there than scattered all over the place.

When I was in the US i saw people paying with credit cards in restaurants and bars. You give the waiter your card and he goes "some where" for a few minutes and brings it back.

I did that a few times and found it far more unnerving then paying online.

I pay for everythign with my credit card. I get free airline miles for doing so, so why not? When the bill comes every month I pay it in full, so it's not like I'm in any kind of debt or anything (my mortgage is my only "debt")

One time my credit card number got compromised somehow. As soon as whoever got it used it, I got a call from my CC company, I told them i didn't authorize that charge, and they cancelled the card and sent me one with a new number. No problem at all, easy fix.

Oh I'm sure it's safe. It's just weird for me to give my CC. I don't think anyone has EVER handled it apart from me.

Debit cards feel safer because of the pin code.

I never use cash either.

I use cash as much as I can.

Using your debit card for every little purchase is a good way to get it cloned , especially in small stores or gas stations. This actually is more of a real life risk than getting your PayPal hacked

Do Kanadian cards still use magnet strips or does it have a chip?

The chips are much safer, they cant be cloned so easily. Also, use of your card outside of Europe is blocked by default

We have the chip now. But there's still some instances where they can copy it anyways. Always check if the terminal looks tampered with

I haven't used my debit card ever since I got my credit card. My checking pretty much acts like a bill pay account.

By experience that is not a good way to go, unless you are super disciplined and pay off 100% of your credit card balance every month

I don't get the big deal if somebody hacks your CC / debit card number. You just have the false charges removed and you get assigned a new number. It's barely a hassle.

It happened to me and caused me lots of anxiety even if I know the bank is going to pay it back. I'd rather not have to go through it again

You don't need to be super disciplined to not spend money you don't have. My card is also a credit building one, so I don't get charged interest every month as long as you pay the $15 minimum. I never pay it off entirely so I can build up my credit score.

I feel like buying a regular Wii just for these games:

Pandora's Tower
Xenoblades Chronicles
Arc Rise Fantasia
The Last Story
Zelda Skyward Sword
Zelda Twilight Princess

Monster Hunter

Dishonored is pretty cool although I think I'm taking way too much time exploring every little corner

I'm also not very good at stealth and end up killing everyone

Here's basically an admission by Microsoft that Kinect CAN be used for spying on people.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-07-23-microsoft-will-aggressively-challenge-any-government-attempt-to-use-kinect-for-snooping

And since they'll be forced to comply even if they "aggressively challenge" ...

I guess they'll start by monitoring the perverts who "opted out" of Britain's porn filters

Your constant negativity and outward embarrassment of hardcore porn really betrays your apparent inner obsession with it, KM. You seem to worry so much about it, worried that people judge yourself and others who view it to be "perverted", when I believe the reality is nothing like your perception at all. I don't know about your country, but in my own, pornography is not widely frowned upon or considered unacceptable and debauched. It's almost the opposite in fact. Porn now sits on the cusp of adult mainstream entertainment, no longer hidden from view under the counter of the dirty video rental salesman. Porn isn't a dirty word anymore amongst adults and neither should it be.

Relax dude.

Definitely. Wouldn't want her to accidentally walk in on a hot blonde, legs akimbo and spit roasted by two hefty guys while a second brunette chic squirts her frigged out quam all over her face.

Could be awkward.

Actually I'm not embarassed. And I "don't have anything to hide" if a remote camera (Kinect) is implanted in my living room, so why would I give a shit? But is this really how you want the world to work?

There was some kind of sarcastic joke in that post that you missed, or maybe it didn't read as I intended. It was more about Cameron wanted to hunt down "perverted porn watchers". He clearly thinks porn is for perverts

Maybe I'm missing something but I simply do not infer from Cameron's language and actions that he is a prude nor judgemental of adults who enjoy porn and considers them to be 'perverted'. Are you sure you're not inventing these scenarios KM?

I'm not forming an opinion based on message board armchair commentators or Daily Mail newspaper doom mongering rants. I am watching the politics and policy making with a close eye and have been doing so for longer than I've been talking about it in here.

I'm pretty sure he's a religious conservative type who thinks porn is for perverts and the work of the devil, and that sex should only exist in the bedroom of married people

Just like our prime minister Stephen Harper

I'm not sure what's the point of going non-lethal in Dishonored.

About 75% of the abilities and weapons imply you have to kill opponents

ok, I got an extra rune for sparing Lady Whatever. Maybe doing the mission objectives in a non lethal way might be a bit better.

but if you don't kill the guards, you don;t have time to search the level before they wake up
