RIP Yes, but it was loosely based on "Educating Rita", which was an English "Annie Hall", which was "Pygmalion".

Disco Stu 15,495
Happy Days is the man's legacy. In its early seasons it was a great sitcom, perfectly cast. And hey, he gave us "jumping the shark"!

Naïve Old Fart 9,624
If you see what happens in the movie, it's more the other way around. Look at the transformation from Rita, to Susan.

Thor 7,559
Marshall was never really on my radar as a director, but I love OVERBOARD. And PRETTY WOMAN is obviously an iconic classic. Score-wise, I am particularly fond of the aforementioned OVERBOARD and Delerue's BEACHES. The others I've either not cared particularly for (EXIT TO EDEN is among Patrick Doyle's more grating scores) or not listened to properly. Whenever someone dies, and it's posted about on this board, I always look for Williams connections. Alas, in this case there is none that I'm aware of. Disco Stu 15,495
I always enjoyed Garry Marshall more as a performer who'd show up for short bits in movies/TV shows than as a movie director. Honestly most of my affection for him comes from the comedian Paul F. Tompkins performing a Garry Marshall character on podcasts like Comedy Bang Bang. "Please! Call me Gaaarrry!"
