crumbs 14,317
Quote "What was added — and it was a fantastic add — was the Vader action scene, with him boarding the ship and dispatching all those rebel soldiers," Gilroy told Yahoo Movies. Who does this guy think he is, Donald Trump? The whole sequence stood out like a sore thumb and was completely jarring with the rest of the story. I feel like Edwards is being somewhat vindicated as more details emerge of Gilroy's changes.

Luke Skywalker 1,795
Hmmm... maybe in the original version the plans were truly sent to Leia's ship. And when they changed it and wanted vader to board the ship they made the tantive iv inside the capital ship...
Unlucky Bastard 7,782
Judging by the trailers, Edwards' version was more arty. The Gilroy theatrical version is fanboy pandering machine. Jay
crumbs 14,317
Maybe the original ending just had Jyn, alone, on the beach. Staring down her fate as the wall of fire approached her, providing a gentle voiceover about the Rebellion and hope, looking up to see a distant spaceship in orbit (the Tantive IV) going into lightspeed. Something considerably more restrained than the fan-service wankfest in the final film. Presumably the entire theatrical ending was Gilroy's vision if he conceptualised and shot the Vader massacre. Luke Skywalker 1,795
The comic version seems that it will be including some deleted material: https://www.yahoo.com/movies/rogue-one-comic-book-to-include-scenes-cut-from-the-star-wars-movie-195516769.html
nightscape94 965
Just saw it this past weekend. Thought it was pretty good, but certainly not better than TFA. The characters were relatively uninteresting (outside of their introductory scenes, they weren't developed beyond that), but I did like the overall tone, and thought they pulled off the long 3rd act action sequence well. Liked the Vader wrath scene. Krennic's death was lame. Very sudden and uncinematic. I was convinced he would pop back up, but....no, just dead. I'm in agreement with the distractions of R2-D2/C3PO being shoehorned in there, and CGI Fischer was unnecessary.
Pieter Boelen 740
Krennic died from the Death Star blast, his "own" weapon. It's karma. mstrox

Jay 37,368
Why Princess Leia Was At Scarif In Rogue One Revealed “The plan was always that Leia was going to go to Tatooine to pick up Obi-Wan and Raddus was going to escort her,” Hidalgo said. “Then the news of Scarif came in, and that was deemed more important... [because] it’s the one warship that they have at this point.”
Luke Skywalker 1,795
I assumed that, there was no other option. But even in a rush, Leia could have dropped out of the ship before it went to war. But things like that do not have to be assumed or explained as an afterword.... and if something like that is not told in the comic, novelization of whatever... it is just the story group giving a feasible explanation to a film plot: Afterthought. Maybe we needed a scene of the admiral telling her they could wait for her ship to leave dock and leia says something that "it doesnt matter, the clock is ticking" but it would eliminate the ending "awe factor".... It is still weird to send THE whole fleet to pick up a lone Jedi, which btw spent 20 years hiding with a low profile.... yeah, very subtle... Demodex 557
They probably weren't going to send the whole fleet to pick up Luke. Just Raddus's ship.

Wojo 2,453
Obviously. Only three folks known to intergalactic politics knew about Luke at that point, one being Kenobi.
Demodex 557
Yeah, I meant Obi-Wan. Sorry.
Luke Skywalker 1,795
Dont be sorry. It was going to pick up the two. Without Lars interference, Luke should have been fully trained already. As Obi Wan's says after Seeing Leia's message: "I need your help, Luke. She needs your help. I'm getting too olf for this sort of thing..."
