Cameron007 43
Gotta love how no one cares that the song isn't included. Speaks volumes. Anyway, I got this back in 2017. I hope to be riding the LLL Bond train from beginning to end. JibberJabberwocky and Yavar Moradi
OneBuckFilms 323
I have a compilation of bond songs (50 years 50 tracks set) that includes it, so I used that in my "virtual" playlist.

I gotta disagree with your characterization that "no one cares that the song isn't included". I think a lot of fans care that the song isn't included -- they're super grateful and relieved that it was left off! Mr. Breathmask 555
I wish it was there. It would have saved me some hassle creating a playlist and I consider the title song a vital part of the musical Bond experience. Even if it's not written by the score composer. That said, I have a hard time getting through this one. It's so overbearing and busy. I feel it somewhat lacks the clarity of ideas the other Arnold Bond scores have. I'm in the same boat with this one. It sort of works in the film I suspect, but the song really does nothing for me.

Yavar I quite enjoy the instrumental version of the Madonna song without the vocal stem. That would have been a cool additional song to add to the LLL release. It would be really cool to have a release of instrumentals of all bond theme songs. But a playlist cold suffice. There are quite a few of those instrumentals out there, though not sure if all (of the films that have opening sequences with songs). Richard Penna 3,694
I'd instantly buy instrumental albums for my top 3 artists but it doesn't seem like releasing them is something most artists actively want to happen. In fact my current number one 'wanted' item at the moment is a CD single from the 90s which is the sole source of a couple of instrumentals I really want. It's a very strange antagonism that artists and publishers have towards letting us hear underscore in its raw form. 19 hours ago, Yavar Moradi said: I gotta disagree with your characterization that "no one cares that the song isn't included". I was extremely happy when Spectre didn't include Sam Smith's song, and instead included an instrumental reworking of some sort. Can't stand his stuff. OneBuckFilms 323
The San Smith song has grown on me over time. Given the importance of the song, good or not good. I’d always want it included with the score. You Know My Name was sorely missed from Casino Royale for example. For Bond the opening is always a key musical component to the film. Cameron007 43
"Writing's on the Wall" is a fantastic song in and of itself, with great lyrics and a beautiful orchestral backing. Sam Smith's cringey vocal is what ruined it for me. Shirley Basset was allowed 3 Bond songs, why couldn't they have gotten Adele back for this one? OneBuckFilms 323
Sam Smith was fine aside from that annoying falsetto in my view. Radiohead had an interesting take but was rejected for good reason. Yavar Moradi

As I mentioned my comments about No Time To Die, Madonna's song has grown on my quite a lot since my initial massive dislike of it when the film first came out. It probably didn't help that the film was, in many places, dreadful and wasn't even saved by spectacle - the absolutely dire VFX for the glacier surfing sequence was pretty much the straw for DAD. As I also mentioned in my NTTD comments, the Silva orchestral version of Madonna's song probably helped me enjoy it a whole lot more. I had previously kept it was a "bonus track" in iTunes but recently decided to put it into the main programme and enjoy it being there. I had originally put the song into a playlist that replaced any cues in the main programme that had alternates in the bonus section so I had an alternate version of DAD. Never really quite sure why I felt DAD was worthy of such an alternate version which I've never really done for any other score... no idea! Now I am wondering whether inserting one of the instrumental orchestral versions could work instead. Of course that would probably stick out for other reasons, notably any performance and recording style differences. At least with a pop song, you expect the recording to have a different ambience to the orchestral score. 23 hours ago, Richard Penna said: I was extremely happy when Spectre didn't include Sam Smith's song, and instead included an instrumental reworking of some sort. Can't stand his stuff. Agreed, the instrumental version was fine (if not great) but his falsetto vocals did nothing for me. Again, maybe it's hope over expectation, but Bond songs feel like they should have a certain style and Smith's didn't really have that, neither did Billie Eilish's. 18 hours ago, OneBuckFilms said: Radiohead had an interesting take but was rejected for good reason. I have the Radiohead song with the Spectre as I rather liked it. I'm not especially a Radiohead fan and I'm not sure it's exactly an obvious sounding Bond song, but I liked it in its own right enough to put alongside Newman's score. Those two cues sound vastly different (and better) with the electronics stripped away. Does anyone know if either of these ever leaked? Or is the film the only place to hear them? Faleel 5,359
It's kind of funny what we call "electronics" haha 😄 usually just drums/percussion.
